If wines is a genuine chance how do we get wines papley and Martin surely there would have to be players involved but who ? Levi,, Marchbank?
Players have to agree to any trade like this don't they? Can't imagine these guys, or anyone wanting to leave us at this stage. Maybe Cas because his opportunities might be limited at Blues in 2020.

He's not going to be vetoing anyone, if a kid does/says something bad to have him write them off without even seeing them play, I reckon the recruiters would cotton on to it as well.
As long as this is the case and he isn't insisting that player A should be recruited - not player type A, specifically player A - I have no issues with him doing it. My issue stems from ensuring that our specialists are being allowed to do their job without peripherally involved people interfering, nothing more.

no one will give a s**t what we gave up for papley and Martin when they become an integral part of the team next year and help us make finals.

They are the exact type of players we need in the perfect age bracket, who apparently would like to join us. You just get it done.
I hate that attitude, I bet 'we' thought the same about Judd.

Our problem with Ratts was that he simply tried to do too many things. He was involved with recruitment, fitness, strategy, line coaching, development. Most of the growth in the AFL over the past 20 years has come from specialisation, having experts in specific areas working in those areas and reporting to someone in charge on their progress instead of having someone try to do everything. I'm concerned, because we have a history of rejecting attempts to change the club, to modernise and to do things the right way, and this could very well be a bit of a regression to that.

We've gotten so much right since MLG took over, hired Trigg and SOS and Bolton, moving two of those three on when what was needed from the position changed. I am worried that the promise of incipient success might lull the club into a false sense of security that they might slip back into bad habits. If I had more trust for the club, I would be less concerned, but I still do not think they've quite earned it yet.

We didn't have the right people at the club when Ratts was coach.

He tried to do it all himself. And failed.

Now we have Liddle, Lloyd, SOS, Russell plus more and the coach can concentrate on coaching....

I like the fact all of Liddle, Lloyd, Russell are well regarded and successful in their own right at other clubs. Feels less boys club than it once did. It’s almost (almost) like we’re actually a modern professional club.

With Butler doing the tour and medical I would think that the Papley is not coming. I would be happy with Butler, Grey and Martin.

Papley remains a long-shot, but I don't think Butler meeting with the club means what you think it does at all.

Every club will be meeting and speaking with a whole lot of different players.

Remember when we nearly traded the Charlie Curnow pick for Tomilson :astonished:

Yes, but had we made that trade, we would have missed out on Harry rather than Charlie.

We rated Charlie higher but believed the Crows - who had the pick between our two - were keen on Harry and not Charlie.
