No PP. Should’ve beat GWS. No problems there. But it was there competitive effort against the ladder leaders that make a PP not even in the conversation.

All we can go by is at the end of the year win loss ratio

let’s see what the final tally tells us

When this thread was made North were 0-6 and just barely scoring over 50 points in a game with a % of 45.7

Ever since then North has gone 1-1-4, scoring over 75 points a game with a % of 77.8

Improvement is happening, PP not required.

Not required and won’t even be a thought for Gil, who ultimately makes the decisions. North pushed the Demons, who outside of deplorable umpiring bias, would be undefeated this year. No small feat to push them like North did. Today they drew against a full GWS outfit. Some would argue North could’ve won. This isn’t the football we’ve seen from battling sides of the past who got PP’s. Gold Coast historically cannot be placed in the discussion, as they are an AFL baby, who were ripped apart by stronger AFL teams. They didn’t choose to let players leave - they had no say. There is zero chance North get a PP.

Still don’t want or need one. We’ll be fine in the long term.

Yeah, I reckon we are fine for talent. Our main issue is lack of fitness. GWS kicked their scores against us late in quarter.

What we need more than a priority pick is someway to condense multiple preseasons into one.

Lol.

It was the same as the Melbourne game. We were the better team for long periods, but ran out of legs. The only difference being that it was a quarter later this time.

List still has issues, but no more than any other developing list.

Yep, game plan is fine, kids are developing nicely.

Need fitness and to fill some list holes.

Not really.
U get the first pick of all available players in Australian in June.
I think th e MSD draft will be become a fixture as clubs look for older players to draft rather than kids.
Newcombe already looks good.

Really.

It was only because Vic Metro kids couldn't play last year that Edwards was there.

There's never been a first round quality kid available in the MSD and it is unlikely there ever will be again.

Yeah really. There is definitely a macro trend in the AFL to draft more mature players. 19,20,21.

AFL clubs don't see themselves as development nurseries and most coaches believe 17 is too young to be drafted.

This is one of the reasons for the reformed VFL.

And what do you mean "never"?

The MSD had been around five minutes. So hardly a data source.

MSD will become more important in the future.

This is all dependent on us finishing last and not winning another game:

If there is still a PP at pick 19 this year (the AFL gave one to the GC a couple of years ago) then why shouldn't the team that came last (ie us), won 4 games in the last 2 seasons so far and finished in the bottom 2 three times in five years get it?

Why should some other team that will most likely beat us twice this season (GC) get it?

Should we come last and miss out on a chance to draft inside the top 20 twice because of some other teams PP? That isn't how the draft is sposed to work is it?

We will get some good players back as the year drags on so we aren't even a certainty to finish last yet (and if we do we may still win one or two,) tho its a good chance we will get the spoon. But whoever comes last why is the GC getting pick 19 (at this stage)? Unless the finish last they shouldn't be getting it.

Personally i'd prefer they scrapped the thing but if they don't we should get it.

Off the top of my head (I’m sure there is more) the below first and second rounders would have been available in the mid-season draft had it been around then.

First Round: Issac Smith, Tim English, Harry Taylor

Second Round: Tim Kelly, Liam Ryan, Bailey Fritsch, Hayden Ballantyne, Rory Lobb.

Definitely think pick 1 in the mid season draft is going to have a reasonable value (greater than 3rd round pick) most years.

The same point you make for why GC shouldn't get a pick is the same reason North shouldn't get one and no one should get one.

(which i get you pointed out at the end)

North should not have that second pushed back for a GC pick, just like the Hawks shouldn't have it's 2nd pushed out because of North.

Collingwood shouldn't be pushed back either (if they had the pick) etc etc.

The entire logic behind priority picks are flawed. The league never has 1 bad team and by gifting an extra pick to the worst team you are pushing back the picks of all the other bad teams.

I love when hawks or blues supporters comment on this

which teams have not received a priority pick ever?

north, cats, crows, eagles, port, dogs? Swans but they rort the academy instead
Cats - heavily favoured by father son in 2000s
Eagles - Ben Cousins, Ashley McIntosh FS
Dogs - JUH, Hunter, Liberatore
North - Tarryn Thomas, McDonald
Swans - academy
Port - Jones NGA

PP would be wasted on Scott Clayton.
Supposedly "highly regarded" and like Johnny Barker has survived in the AFL system for decades like a cockroach.

Heard him interviewed the other day.
Seriously sounds like he's not all there.

Think the Eagles maybe realised this real quick.
Still has valuable experience.

We have Glenn Luff from CD and Rawlings to help keep his more eccentric ideas in check anyway. Finnegan is no slouch either.
