In a way, I am happy we don't have any media sycophants. Ralph and Caro have come across as completely spiteful and slimy.

Maybe so but it works for them

As soon as I read that article, I was like WTF?
If those scenarios have been thrown up, this should go through:

Tarrant + #38 + #69 for CJJ + #28

Otherwise
Pick #1 PSD = CJJ
Doubt we can trade up. I would go with Tarrant for CCJ as a straight swap.

So we started with Dimma joking he wanted pick 1
Then they were playing hardball demanding pick 20
Now its something between 20-38.
This is getting better the longer we wait.

Whole lot of bluster in the media about us accomodating Richmond so they don't lose this compo and get this and that and the other.

North have said nothing and more to the point, were not whining in the media when we allowed BB to go OOC last year.

Compensation bid as Tigers, Roos hop into talks

JON RALPH
RICHMOND and North Melbourne are prepared to play ball on trades for Robbie Tarrant and Callum Coleman- Jones that will preserve the Tigers’ compensation for losing Mabior Chol.

When the free agency period kicks off on Friday, Carlton will secure Sydney’s George Hewett in the first list management coup of Michael Voss’s tenure.

With Hewett on a four-year deal of about $450,000, there is a chance his deal could trigger second-round or end-ofsecond-round compensation.

The Western Bulldogs secured a second-round pick after Luke Dahlhaus left for Geelong on a four-year deal of about $500,000 a season at the end of 2018.

But third-round compensation would give Sydney a selection at pick 50 after its own third-round pick at 49 (which is held by West Coast).

The Swans have no plans to match the Hewett deal, so Carlton will get a quality free agent, albeit one at a much smaller price tag than it spent on Zac Williams last year.

The previous season it secured Jack Martin in the preseason draft, and while neither Williams nor Martin has maximised his potential, the Blues have at least maximised their draft hand.

Jake Kelly’s move to Essendon as a free agent is expected to net Adelaide a third-round pick (42) after the 26-year-old lockdown defender agreed to move to the Bombers.

Richmond would normally have secured Tarrant on a twoyear free agency deal but will instead trade for him next week with a late pick.

As reported by the Herald Sun, Chol’s four-year deal is likely to trigger a third-round compensation pick (45).

But if the Tigers bring in Tarrant as a free agent the net value of both free agency transactions is taken into account, so the Tigers could have their Chol compensation cancelled out.

Richmond and the Roos are happy to get a deal done for Coleman-Jones early in trade week that will also factor in trading for Tarrant instead of moving him as a free agent.

Richmond would ideally have hoped for North Melbourne’s pick 20 instead of its No.38 third selection, but the clubs might broker a deal that gives the Tigers a pick somewhere in between.

Adelaide’s Tom Lynch has confirmed he will join the Roos in a coaching capacity, with the deal to include a playing component that will put him on the rookie list.

But as he is a delisted free agent the Crows will receive no compensation. Saint Luke Dunstan’s compensation circumstances are similar.

The AFL says the compensation formula is designed to “reflect the relative values of various players to one another” after eight or more years of service to one club.

It's amazing how the media narrative can be crowbarred to fit the situation. All the talk is about Richmond playing hardball and how both clubs need to work together to protect Richmond's FA compo. They arbitrarily decide for themselves that pick 20 is about fair and then use that as the point at where negotiations will move from, not sure that's how NM see it!

If it were exactly the same situation but the clubs were reversed, you could easily see the narrative being, NM haven't got a leg to stand on, they lowballed CCJ with a two year offer, when clearly he deserved more, Richmond have offered him a fair contract and with the PSD a real possibility and NM clearly not valuing him, they will have to accept whatever is offered or lose him for nothing.

As George Costanza said ‘I have hand’. We are completely in charge of this and it will depend on us what we do or get out of it.
You can’t burn the bridge as one day it will come back to bite you BUT we are not going to pay overs

A neighbour of mine who is a Tigers fan and potentially has a degree of ITK told me Richmond know they really don't have any leverage in the trade so have been threatening CCJ's manager that if he ends up in the PSD then all his other Richmond clients will terminate his services.

There's going to be melts on both sides of Bigfooty once this trade is completed.

Bigfooty group think and actually reality are very rarely the same.
I’ll have you know I have a 100%* strike rate for trading.

*99% margin of error.

It’s up to Richmond too if he ends up in the PSD.

Radical plan by SOS. Clearly doesn't read bf. says Carlton can play hard ball and walk away from negotiations and pick up cerra in psd! They fail to realise that there are what 5 clubs before them and no way would cerra get past all.... both ourselves and hawthorn spoke to him. And we both have bigger pockets. Both this and Dawson be interesting to see pan out.... need to trade for ccj 38 or higher if can... need to keep that psd option open for any others that fall.... even lipinski. You would have thought dogs will play hard there considering how they got leftover with some of treloar wage

Before even factoring in the PSD leverage... If Richmond are that angry about it (and I'm not saying they're not) why did they only offer him a two year contract? I get the argument if we offer 4 years, we should pay a fair price for a player we value, but the counter is also true, if they only value him for a 2 year contract, how can they expect a huge price? (I remember the media trotting that out a fair bit about us trading Brown last year!)

You’d have to think if that actually happened it would be one of the bigger scandals of recent years. Club blackballing an accredited player manager working in good faith?

(well, as good faith as these snakes are capable of)

I think your neighbour is fantasising.

Go to the TLA Worldwide website, and look at the array of talent they manage across the league... there is no way known they will effectively black ban TLA in retaliation for losing one 9-game player.

P.S. This strategy would involve telling Trent Cotchin who is allowed to represent him...

It's a good story - not saying it isn't true. But I'd be interested to know the reactions of the Richmond players concerned if their club told them to go find a new manager over another player and his manager who is only trying to get a deal done for his client. I'd also like to know the reactions of all other managers across the AFL and how they'd view dealing with Richmond in the future.

yeah I googled CCJ player manager and got to TLA as well.

banner ad on their site says they rep 28% of AFL talent.

lets hope the tiggers black ball them and cut off a third of all AFL talent.

I could walk away happy with that. Unhappy losing Tarrant but thats a win win.

You'd think a few competition lawyers would be rubbing their hands together with glee if the tuggers tried to pull that stunt.
