Surely I’m not the only one who thinks our midfield performs better when they have a big bodied ruckmen in there? Timmy does a hell of a lot right, but geez he just doesn’t really have any influence in the guts does he. Surely we’d be better having someone whose sole focus revolves around stoppage work whilst letting Timmy be the unicorn that he is around the ground.

Schache was okay tonight, he was back he was forward he was through the midfield - he played fine. But Timmy would play that exact role 1000x better
Dude you've made your point.

English is as valuable as he is is because he gets to work off the opposition ruck, who don't fit into any other structural position. What position do you propose English play? On ball? Wing? Key defender? Where does he line up on the 6 6 6 rule?

All at the same time. That would be impressive

Exactly as Schache did tonight - he was forward he was back he was around the contest (not as the ruckman) that’s the thing with Timmy he could start forward 6-6-6 and be a marking target if we win the clearance, and then get on his bike and run any defender in the league with the size to match up on him, completely off their legs whilst he roams the field as a tall flanker/half forward

Schache had 6 CBAs and we lost 11 of them! 😅

Fair point, really strong numbers from him - becoming quite a common sight to see him strolling out of the centre which is a nice bonus. His 2nd half he became much more assertive in the guts which is the next step for him

I look at our list and try and find a replacement to OBrien…. there is no one, zilch, nada.

We really need that spot filled with someone who is a better interceptor, kick or better 1v1 than OBrien. It’s the midsize defender that we are really lacking.

Khamis is a perfect 3 defender replacement

Schache didn't kick a goal but he's an upgrade on Cordy. His ruckwork was solid and his fieldkicking was very good. Keep him in!

West was amazing.

Libba is such a beast.
His inside 50 kicks though lead directly to 2 goals. Did have a poster which I would normally expect that he would kick. Competed well in the ruck and around the ground solid game from the Shack

The pressure rating sums up the game as soon that lifted in the second half the game turned. Most was of it were very fixable errors; midfielders all on one side of a stoppage, half back/forwards being to slow to impact at the back of the stoppage, giving to much space in the corridor on transition, as well as the aerial issues of defenders not putting any body contact on forwards early and defenders not backing themselves in the air and going for the ball.

Wonder what our win/loss and percentage would be based on expected scores for the year?

Those ruck stats arent great against a makeshift.

Tim still does that thing in ball ups and throw ins where he waits for the opposing ruck to make first movement and physical contact, those ones are quite often a hit out to advantage to the opposition. he needs to initiate or match.
The passive instinct is so hard to overcome, Schache too, he's 10 or 15% more proactivity and aggression away from a good AFL player

Good win by the boys. Weight man, West , McComb and McNeil all look to be on an improving trajectory which is great. McComb looked to honour leads more in the second half after his miss in the first half. Wonder if that was his decision or an instruction.
Having more threats up forward allowed Naughton to really show what he can do. Long may it continue.

Had to roll my eyes at Bev in the post game presser, defending last week's forward structure by saying the issue wasn't the lack of talls but our ball use going inside 50. Obviously better ball use is going to improve you no matter who you have up forward and how tall they are, but it was blindingly obvious that last night was a win for structure. JUH and Schache aren't particularly good but they played their role and it let Naughts and Cody do some damage.

I know that's just Bev not wanting to concede he got something wrong publicly, clearly they recognised the issue by their selecting of Marra and Schache. But my god do I hope it's something we stick with. Naughts in genuine 1 on 1s is almost impossible to stop.
