Opinion What unpopular AFL opinions do you have? - Part 2

Not sure if this will be unpopular opinion but it makes the fixture fairer, make the season longer because of marquee games, you will never be able to make it every club play each other once, so how about make it every club plays each other twice and you give each club 5-6 extra listed players.

It makes it a 10 month season which I can't see ever happening unfortunately.

Or instead of an increased list have an "All season" draft where if you have to pit a player on LTI you can top up with whoever at any point

Clubs should be able to protect picks. As in freeze the points for that pick and if there is a deficit, being able to pay the deficit with salary cap or even soft cap space. Way too little flexibility and if clubs were able to do this, bottom clubs might actually have a chance to attract free agents.

The AFL should get rid of the draft and replace with an NRL-style system where players just sign directly with whatever club they want.
Makes the league less equal, but IMO it's more important that players play for teams they have a genuine allegiance to.

Having points gave us moments like the Stephen Milne bounce leading to a draw, Heath Chapman on the goal line spoiling back into play forcing a win, Eric Mackenzie getting shoved into a goalpost in the name of salvaging a draw.

Why would you take the behind away?

Literally because other sports don’t get points for missing.

2nd serve tennis.

Bontempelli’s year has been overrated. Certainly shouldn’t be favourite for the Brownlow.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Petracca, Daicos, and Butters (Dawson Smokey) are the top 3.

The season is too long.

I checked out 2 weeks ago and just waiting on finals.

I'd be happy with a 17 (soon to be 18) week season with a midseason bye.
Everyone goes on about how the season will never be 18 rounds because of lost revenue - but it is done in the NFL. If the AFL want to get serious about running a fair competition, they should just pull the trigger and do it.

Agree, had a lengthy period in the middle of the season where he was quiet and wouldn't have polled. Other issue is many of his great performances have been in losses where he's tried to carry us

That's your whole reasoning? Because it's done in the NFL?

Not that it matters to my point which is why take the point away.

The Brownlow is merely a tally of how often you were seen in the top 3 on the ground - it doesn’t rate an overall year (I.e. could be 4th best on field a lot of times without reward).

Bont will 100% be up there - his standout games are standouts, he will poll 3 anytime he dominates.
