Tanking doesn't exist in modern footy and I don't know why people keep wanting rule changes because of it.

The entire debate should have completely ended with Hawthorn 2023 as the prime example.

There are different ways to rebuild your list. One of those is to prioritise getting games into talented but inexperienced kids.
Surely there can't be anybody out there who believes that the only way to build a premiership list is by constantly selecting your most experienced side? West Coast 2023 should be the prime example of that.

Another key factor ignored in this debate is that a lot of free agents opt to move to clubs already in a premiership window. The draft is one thing, but losing on purpose, as a concept, diminishes your chances of attracting developed A grade talent into your club.

And honestly , tank if you dare, it can destroy the clubs culture and will do more harm than good imo

Just need to get rid of the points discount. If you want the son enough, just pay what he's worth - you still get first dibs.
Especially when you factor in the current system inflates the value of lower picks so clubs are just hording those picks in trades that would not be realistic if they were actually going to be used.

Someone put a much more realistic value on picks on the draft board.

Why do we reward for missing a goal (aka behind)? There should be goal (6) , touched (1) and no behind.

At least by 1866, free kicks were being given to the defending team whenever the ball went "behind the goal", no matter which team last touched it, and behind posts had been installed 20 metres from each goal post. A goal square was introduced around the same time.

Awarding a point for a behind was introduced in 1897 in both the VFA and VFL to reduce the number of drawn matches.

Which is good if you think of it. A single score can switch the win in footy etc, whereas it takes two scores in soccer

Maybe the latter is better, but their answer then is a penalty shoot out. Not so great

The official pre-season challenge/practice matches are boring as hell and of little interest to anyone.

Either bring back some form of night series cup (which would again give some meaning and substance to pre-season matches and another opportunity for clubs to win some silverware), OR just start the regular season a few weeks earlier.

You sound like my pommy mates.
“ Aw they get rewarded for missing lol”
We follow the greatest game in the world.
Don’t try and mess with the rules of a game that’s been around as long as organised soccer.

Hawthorne clearly tanked in 2004 which gave them Jared Roughead. They are one of 5 clubs that tanked in that eara, and the most successful from it.

Not to mention, the media still don't get pick 2 and 3 and so on are just as decent players, if not better at times, eg. Dusty pick 3, Nic Nac pick 2, Clayton Oliver pick 4.

Take out the Grand Finalists and have a 16-team Knockout tournament.
Grand Finalists and knocked out teams play practice matches from Week 2 onwards.

Then, Grand Final rematch opens the season.

The rules of our game were created earlier than Soccer IIRC.
