Essendon - where are they at?

They miss Winderlich, while Stanton isn't fit

Generally whenever he plays well Essendon win

Interesting though once again seeing Fletcher being beaten when played on the key forward:rolleyes:

What a seriously overated THUG

Just find it hilarious how everyone says how much we're going to struggle when our best players retire. Well Lloyd and Lucas aren't even 30 yet!!! Fletcher has 2-3 left. What are you all talking about???

What about good old "1 flag in the last 50 years" Collingwood. Their defence depends on players closer to retirement than Lloyd and Lucas, namely Presti, Wakelin, and Clement (if he ever comes back). Who is there to replace these blokes?? And don't give me Harry O'Brien, very very overrated. Burns, Rocca all getting on. The defence will be a shambles for next few years.

Malthouse should be given a knighthood for what he's achieved, but just how long can they continue to punch above their weight?? The window is almost clamped shut.

Hird is still ur best player, he wont be there next year
Fletcher still cant play on an opponent.......Rocca took 5 contested marks, T.Cloke 4 contested marks, not sure how many should be considered contested when they were taken on Dustin tho?

Guess u must have missed the pies this year, Harry has been great.......he again towelled up Lucas, who couldn't beat Harry in a contest all day, Lucas got a few cheap FP type goals, no goals from big pack marks like Rocca and T.Cloke were taking up the other end!!

Goldsack is a beauty, beat Micky O did a good job on Buddy

Maxwell gives his all every game

Cox has shown good form

And have another couple of highly rated KP defenders in N.Brown and J.Anthony yet to debut!

Miles ahead of Fletcher, Michael combo

Punching above their weight?

Last year finished in the 5-8 group, this year we may improve on that........our young kids will only continue to improve going forward too!!

Good times ahead for the woods, cant say the same bout the dons...............oh and u need to find a couple of leaders quick smart too!!

lol
15 other teams are praying this is true.

Destroyed you blokes earlier this year. He was clearly hampered yesterday by groin injury. Has already booked his place into the Hall of Fame.

I remember I dared suggest that Essendon were not part of the flag contenders group as recent as 3 rounds ago and you should have seen the crying.

Has the penny dropped yet Bomber supporters?

I reckon we've got as much chance as Sydney ie. zilch!!

Essendon are a 10th place team this year...if they can snag 10 wins, that would be sensational year, after two years down the foot of the table with the Blues and co...

The pipeline has got some youngsters yet to come through, some of the old hands are not (other than Hird) about to retire...

Any Essendon fan who got ahead of themselves at the start of the season....

so the macflie is buzzing around again, a closet essendon tragic if ever ive seen one!

where are the bombers? middle of the pack, as most (sensible) supporters predicted.

more to the point is -where are coollingwood? your gift draw over the next month should ensure top 2 finish, no? .... careful, no stumbling now......:thumbsu:

So Harry won because Lucas didn't take contested marks? Fact is Lucas read the play far better than Harry.

-Wow players that have not played are far better better than 200 game premiership players:rolleyes::p.

-Anthony and Brown better be good if they are going to be able to beat Gumbleton and Neagle.

Now pay attention Barry because I'm only going to type this once. Collingwood's back six is covered for the next decade as is our goal to goal line. Presti and Wakes will be eventually replaced by Nathan Brown and Anthony with plenty of other young defenders in Goldy, Stanley and Scott Reed not to mention Harry and Heath Shaw who are just getting started. Our solutions are all in house unlike the Bombers who patch up their side with 30 year olds who are past their best. Where's your future fullback? I'll pay Paddy Ryder as a future key defender but after him the cupboard is bare. You're on the slide and you haven't hit rock bottom yet, but you will.

Gumbleton will be a star, Neagle though is a spud I can't believe you're pinning your hopes on him.

Hear hear!

Collingwood are playing really well and look like they have the players to roll through and keep it going for a few years.

Essendon's youngsters don't show the promise that a team like Collingwood's do. Collingwood's first year players look like they've been there for years, whilst Essendon's still look green. They have a few hard years coming up, Essendon. Not sure when it will hit, but imo it will hit hard.

If by towelling up you mean scragging and holding his jumper all day then you're correct. The cheap goals were all from direct stuff ups from that spaz o'brien. He's rubbish. Still unlike the other muppet presti, he can kick.

Yawn. Ill give you Harry and Heath but you are putting your hopes on two players who have never played. We have players who haven't played much either but I am not going to claim them as certainties. When your midfield depth dwindles your defenders will be put under real pressure and will probably fall apart as what happened in the 3rd quarter.

Yawn, wasn't our midfield supposed to crumble without Buckley in it? Newsflash! he hasn't played all year and Mick has carefully weened us off relying on one player. You list is in a shambles and life without Hird won't be pretty.

Your midfield had 5 players over 26 playing key roles, we had 3 over 23. Your midfield as a whole is far older and that is what makes them far more consistant.

ive been a big fan of collingwood this year, there kids are better than anyones
but what you say about lucas is ****ing rubbish, all day had numbers dropping back in front of him and made it easy for o'brien when it was forced wide. Lucas did ****ing great considering the supply he got.
its also a bit hard to take pack marks when we dont ****ing kick the ball long, but then again you'd know this cos you study us so closely:thumbsdown:
full credit to collingwood, they showed us what we should be doing, blooding youngsters, giving them roles in the team and kicking the ball long to key forwards

The only way Sheeds can be sacked is if it is sometime before the end of the season. He is out of contract once the season ends so it's not a sacking. Clubs that sack coaches are pathetic. Honour your committment just as you'd expect a coach or player to do.
many of us pointed out the insanity of re-signing him back when this contract was stitched - never any doubt we would be right on that one - the game has passed him by

We're still going alright - with the competition as even as it is and 13 (that's right 13!!!) teams capable of making the 8 right now - to be in amongst it is still important.

To those saying the depth isn't there - we played a number of senior listed players in a winning side up at Bendigo today (over Werribee) - the names of Jetta, Gumbleton, Houli, J. Johnson put up their hands, whilst the likes of Bolton, Bradley and Heffernan provided very telling back up.

Essendon for a while has had a problem with not putting 4 quarters together - but, every other club bar Geelong and North have had that problem this year. The pleasing bit from yesterday was that McVeigh and Ramanauskas stepped up to match the efforts of Watson, who is closing on AA based on his sheer number and quality of centre clearances - and Peverill, who is having his best year this year.

There's a number of worse teams than us right now - check out the mob from the Whitten Oval as an example.
