Not really silly as to be drafted into the afl a better than average kick should be standard and something that might need a few minor tweaks.
Yet the world's best golfers and tennis players spend countless hours on their technique and have an individual coach

But yes, AFL for whatever reason you are what you start out as

Seems that way for now, personally I think the system is ruining the game and drafting kids with spunk and Mongrel in them is rare, drafting good boys who follow orders and keep shape has taken priority

Since the Nicks appointment we have not beaten Sydney.

We have also not beaten Collingwood and i think Essendon under his tenure.

Interesting.
I liked in Nicks presser yesterday when he said "we know how to beat Sydney"

Do you really Matthew?? Not going by your record against them you don't!

People may (rightly) sneer at our leadership group, but it’s voted by the players. I think that’s why it’s so big - all those players got the same votes. But it’s who the squad thinks are the leaders in the group.
It is remotely possible that they know better than us.
The size of the leadership group is ridiculous. Even if they did all receive the same number of votes, Nicks should have made a call to limit the group to 4 max. Smith, ROB and Murphy should not be anywhere near the group.

Correct

Matthew Nicks coaching record

Sydney 4 games, zero wins
Collingwood 7 games, zero wins
Essendon 5 games, zero wins

Brisbane 6 games, 1 win
Freo 5 games, 1 win
Geelong 5 games, 1 win
GWS 5 games, 1 win
Melbourne 6 games, 1 win
Richmond 5 games, 1 win
Bulldogs 4 games, 1 win

Gold Coast 6 games, 2 wins
Saint Kilda 4 games, 2 wins

Hawks 6 games, 3 wins

Carlton 5 games, 4 wins
Port 8 games, 4 wins

West Coast 8 games, 5 wins

North Melbourne 7 games, 6 wins

That is how you get a 34% win rate over nearly 100 games as an AFL coach.

Wow - thats just sad. How has he survived. I remember saying to my son the day he was appointed that he had 5 years max as coach. He inherited a shit list, would improve them only so far and ultimately fail. The lad reminded me of our conversation the other day. Would any other club accept a 34% win rate over 100 games. Ben Rutten was at 39% and got the boot after 43 games. Brett Ratten ran at 50% at St Kilda (not including interim) over 60 games - that club didnt see 50% as good enough. This is not all on Nicks, but he is not going to take this club anywhere either

They've come up with some creative ideas to stop Sydney that no other club has thought of this season, that's fantastic. Stoppers on every potent Swans player to kill their run and ball use.

I wonder, now the season is definitely dead, that we'll go to a highly aggressive fast ball movement and just hope it comes off sufficiently to be competitive against the Swans? Dawson, Rankine, Soligo at every CB to at least try and break even out of the centre.

Got to try something because we can't match them for sheer talent. Might be a surprisingly good game?

Which is entirely on the coaches.

They should have been giving him honest feedback all season.

Remember Sloane saying last year that he’d had no negative discussions about form or playing SANFL and didn’t think any would be likely for afbkwadtca couple of years.

How do you know they all got the same votes and we didn’t predetermine we wanted 8 and selected the 8 highest?

It’s like when someone says “I know what shape is but I’m not going to tell you”

I hope Rankine’s not at every CB, that will twang his hammy for the season.

This also shows how uneven the draw is, 8 games vs some teams, 4 vs others. No finals to skew things either.

So he has a winning record against exactly three teams in the comp. Ouch.

We've played WCE and the Kangas as often as any teams so have actually been given a leg up

Is he looking a little too heavy, like he has been in a good paddock? Hope I am wrong and the video is misleading
I agree, he looks huge. But surely with the rehab he will have been doing, it's nothing but running and strength work before going anywhere near a footy. I would doubt he is carrying excess weight. It would only be whether he has bulked up too much and put on too much size to be able to fully run out a game of AFL footy and back up week after week.

Has a coach with such a shit record ever come good? Surely not. We'll get pumped by Sydney, and good. The future of this club is best served by Nicks being fired as soon as possible.
