He pollutes every thread he enters with spiels about the corrupt, Vic bias league and the media/umpiring based favouritism they get. The odd whinge here and there would be okay. But it is almost every single comment he makes - how to complain about the league and its difficulties for non Vic teams.

Tin foil hat stuff and laughable that it's coming from a West Coast supporter who must have been asleep during the seasons where they got a nice run from the umpires at home led by Luke Shuey trying to draw free kicks all game long.

To put it more simply I think the better teams usually get the right end of the umpiring, If you control the game more you have a better chance of getting free kicks. Stats don't always back it up as with the Hawthorn 3 peat they lost the free kick count a lot but it felt like when the game was up for grabs they would get the free kicks when it mattered.

I don't think the free kick count needs to be 50/50 but tonight was one of the rare games where by just watching it appeared one team was getting the rub way more than the other so it made me check the free kick count during the 3rd quarter.

Sometimes you just want a good old honest debate Mr Meow.

The free kick count just before half time was 12-9 Pies’ way.
So in the second half, the frees were something like 21-5.
And there were several more times when Dogs should have got a free but it wasn’t paid.

And there were only 6 Collingwood players with more disposals than the free kick differential of 19. Effectively it handed them an extra player, with 100% DE and maybe 600 metres gained. Probably would have got the 3 votes.

Not a lot of thought put into the conclusion.

Bulldogs in 2016? Surely Sydney winning would grow the game in NSW and generate more cash for the AFL?
Just a conspiracy theory, but it was the same year Leicester city won the premier league, which is probably the greatest underdog story of all time. AFL saw they could replicate it with the Bulldogs breaking drought and coming from nowhere. It trended quite well internationally from memory, plus anything the AFL can do to stay above soccer, they'll do.

But again..... conspiracy

Didnt impact the result in any way, just like 2016 GF ........

In short, it’s fked.

You can’t have set “rules” where the interpretation of those rules can change from year to year.

HTB a clear example. The rules still state prior opportunity. However the interpretation of what that is changes from year to year and even week to week.

Deliberate OOB another.

Push in the back another.

Ducking contact another.

Games becoming a farce.
Not only the rules change every year, the interpretation depends on the particular umpire as well. We can't have that. Umpiring should be standard across the board. And the game is already a farce.

Glad to see all the neutrals spending their Friday night enjoying the Pies chalk up another win. Hopefully your own teams bring you as much joy over the weekend.
I mean if my club got looked after like that I’m sure I’d enjoy supporting my club 😂 praying we get the same tomorrow!

I still don't really really get Collingwood supporters.

If Hawthorn had been at pretty much full strength playing the Dogs with 6 of the best players out, and held on by 1 goal despite also having a 2:1 free kick advantage, my reaction on the final siren would have been one of relief.
Sounded like they'd won the flag last night.

Same thing happened at Gather Round last year when a winless and understrength Hawthorn would have rolled them if the game had gone for 2 extra minutes. I was stunned at the amount of people chanting 'Colllllllingwoood' as everybody filed out of the stadium. It was obvious that night that they weren't going to be a premiership threat. I expected more of a subdued relief from the supporter base, but instead it was nothing but arrogance.

Anyway...

Obviously Collingwood were the better side, or at least better coached. I've never quite understood how Bevo seems to set up his midfield as if being counter-intuitive is always the priority. For example, after all that we'd seen in the final quarter, it was English contesting the last centre bounce.

As for the umpiring ... no conspiracy, just bad f8ing luck. In spades. If anything, it denied us a fascinating finish.

A few players on both sides enhanced their reputations on last night; the umpires certainly did not.

When we lose next. I won't sook about umpiring or missing players. The response you will get from me will be well played too good on the night. Even if I don't feel that way.
Good on you. That wasn’t the case when the dogs beat you last year. the rest of your mob couldn’t stop posting about the number of players you were missing.

The difference between the Dogs fans and all of the entitled big clubs is that we don’t have a cry when we lose and we don’t boast when we win.

As I said last night, incredibly proud of how that young team played. Win or lose, it will stand them in great stead.

Good 1st and 3rd paragraph. But the 2nd paragraph is just wrong. Go back and look at the Dog fans in here sooking in this thread.

Cho was a shit coach, Ratten was a shit coach. Watters was a shit coach. They all combined to create the mess the club is in the middle of fixing now.
I know it's off topic as it is a game day thread.

Watters 2012-13 period was a dud, despite the 12 win season in 2012
But he came to the saints at the wrong time. Lookin' back now, Saints we on the decline when Ross Lyon left your club at the end of 2011.

Alan Richardson had some good games and bad games. Still had over reliance on some old guys like Riewoldt. 2014-5 were rebuild years. Looked like finals contenders in 2016-7. Then dropped in 2018-9.

I don't think Brett Ratten was a bad coach. Ratten has 2 finals wins as an AFL coach and both wins had similar build ups and circumstances .

Rattens 1st finals win as a coach was 2011 vs Essendon. Carlton had went though 2002-08 not playing finals.

The other finals win Ratten had was that 2020 Elim final vs the dogs. This was after the saints didn't play finals from 2012-19.

You can't put a price on a finals win after a long and painful rebuild that resulted in 7 or 8 years in a row of no finals.

I never really understood that attitude. More than happy to accept when luck goes my club's way. Otherwise I think I'd be a bit of a (*ckhead, tbh.

Same here mate. I try and stay very unbiased and level headed.
It's just ignorant and moronic to do otherwise when something is clear as day.
