First of all, it sounds great, has a much stronger connection to the area than Fremantle.

Secondly, Fremantle was named after a British bloke who wasn’t that great of a human being and has no connection to the area, which is problematic in itself.

When we are surrounded by suburbs like Beeliar, Yangepub, Willagee, Booragoon etc. I don’t see why we don’t follow suit. And that’s just in the general area - not including a whole host of other suburbs with their traditional names.

Also if old mate was decent and had an actual connection to the area, it definitely wouldn’t be as problematic.
Imagine labelling anyone who wants to keep the name Freo as racist.

You are a problem and causing more divide then the so called racists. Pull your head in.

more divide than racists??

fmd guys 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
If you read my post it said "so called racists" which infers that I'm talking about the ones who are not racist at all but want to keep the Freo name for their own reasons.

And yes, I stand by my comment, the people that jump straight to the racist card when it may not be applicable are causing more divide.

When is the MRO ever outcome based? We get done for potential almost every single time on players who don’t even leave the ground to get checked. Cripps and Maynard concuss guys and get nothing.

All of the time?
I don’t think the outcome / consequence should be as focussed on as it is, but it is.

B) IMPACT

Consideration will also be given as to whether the Impact is Low, Medium,
High or Severe. In determining the level of Impact, regard will be had to several factors.

Consideration will be given to the extent of force and in particular,
any injury sustained by the Player who was offended against.

The absence of injury does not preclude the classification of impact as Severe.

particularly with significant head contactand/or Player momentum;

Any head-high contact with a Player who has his head over the ball,
particularly when contact is made from an opponent approaching
from a front-on position;

But clearly not if a concussion can get zero weeks and a player that gets up straight away with no assessment can get 3?

It’s one of the considerations.

In this situation, we need Pearce to be thrown out altogether. Accident , unintentional, playing the ball etc, can mean no offence and no penalty.

If they deem it reportable / “classifiable” offence, then they use the Conduct / Impact / Contact algorithm, of which Impact at least partly considers consequences.

Yeah but the point is outcome really means nothing. It’s about potential half the time.

Was very impressed with the game overall, all 3 lines look better than they did even a fortnight ago. Big credit must go to the coach for that, and of course the line coaches, but some of it probably is serendipity too, the 23 out there are clearly not all first choices as individuals but as a team something has clicked. The backline are reading one another's minds. Jackson is leading the mids, they might be the weakest of the 3 lines last night but they still had better balance between inside and outside work. The forwards are a joy because we have so much talent there.
It's all very satisfying

Sharp is the glaring issue at the moment,
I get what you're saying but I'm not sure Sharp is a problem. It's more that he's performing a role that leads to a low possession count. I could be wrong as it's difficult to see on television. But it seems that Sharp is playing a role to keep the ground wide, almost like a decoy. I'd really appreciate if someone who's at the ground and watched Sharp could confirm or deny. His running stats are huge and he's getting picked to start every week (never on the bench/last picked which is a sign you're on the outer).
Has anyone at the games watched Sharp closely?

Here's the moment of most impact that actually contacts above the shoulders. The trajectory is tangential, Peaarce's shoulder is passing DBJ's head - TBH I was surprised when I slo-mo'd it. Pearce barely makes contact with his head - it is a rotatory force on the whole body. Hopefully just a week.

Yes, that's what happens. I sit 20 rows back on his wing and he just runs up and down holding his width and acting as a decoy essentially.

He is often free and screaming for the ball, but it needs to be switched with a long kick with hang time and nobody kicks it to him. Then there's also ones when he is down the line and ignored. Like when Banfield kicked it out on the full in the third quarter. It was clear Banfield saw him wide open and tried to kick it over his head to a player further away..

Literally a split second later his shoulder hit him square in the head.

The only way he gets off is the AFL decides it's not a reckless way to attack the ball.

Pearce's left arm trailing may be his saving grace however knowing the AFL they'll say if he had time to move his arm he had time to avoid the contest.

Might have been the most pleasing game for the year
  • Physicality was pretty high and they withstood it and came out stronger in the rain no less.
  • New players and scapegoats having career years at this point - Worner, Dudley, Reid, Wagner, Ras, Johnson (yes even him despite disposal issues)
  • Players out of form remembering how to play footy - Cox, Ryan, Switta, Freddy
  • Jackson taking the piss for most of the game.

Special shout out to Ras whose ground ball contest game is really helping Serong I feel, some of it has been elite these past two weeks.

Beat GC JL and I might start to lay out the picnic rug for some humble pie.

Nicely said. That's what has been in my mind on reflection. Something has clicked and the players are on the same page.
And as you say its serendipitous rather than by design as this is not the 22 the match committee would write down as their first preference but its working.

Reid, Dudley, Bolton, Switta, Frederick are a revelation. They have become the main game. The opposition can work on shutting down Treacy, Amiss, Voss and the smalls just get to work.

I do think the rain actually helped us as it forced us to just soccer, tap, bash the ball forward rather than trying to construct our neat chains of possession and it created space and chaos as the ball came in quickly and unpredictably.
Guys like Dudley and Reid thrive on this kind of movement as they see the game better and faster than mere mortals and find the gaps. I really hope JL can learn from this and realize sometimes it's better to let go of trying to control everything and just embrace the chaos.

It's how Richmond won those flags, just moving the ball forward at any cost and trusting those down the line to get on the end of it. Dare I say we actually looked liked that Richmond side at times last night.

Sterner tests ahead but that was professional and assured last night. Just did what we had to against weak opposition who tried what has worked for other teams, to rattle us with pressure and physicality. We've wilted in the past but stood up nicely last night.

Sorry Sean Darcy. Jacko has taken your crown. We MUST keep Jackson at any cost.

Agree with absolutely everything you've said here.

Was the first time in a while we've had that 20-30 mins to enjoy a game of footy at home when you know the game is over. (Unfortunately we did not play the game out well again the Crows and Dogs.)

How good was some of the play by our forward line in the last?

I still however am concerned about stoppage dominance being such a crucial part of our performance. Even if we continue to put up performances like the last fortnight I just don't think it's sustainable or will stand up in finals.

It’s one that can only be 0 or 3+ weeks isn’t it? Careless, High, Severe is an automatic 3.

Should be thrown out in the same way Lobbs was cos it was a genuine attempt at the ball but Obv it won’t be

I think the issue might be the disingenuousness of the arguments being put forth. I mean, let's not convince ourselves that there's no racism out there but let's also not get that twisted by suggesting folks that love the original history for completely other reasons and have a lean towards tradition rather than change

That shit only deserves to be put in the garbage, along with the actual racists and makes me want to hit things.

Claremont changed their name twice, East Perth were the Unions, The second Fremantle FC evolved into South Fremantle, Imperials into East Fremantle, Swans dropped National out of their name in 1980 and West Perth were the merger of the Victorians and West Australians to form the Metropolitans.

If you are a traditionalist, then changing names is very normal.
This assumes we even consider ourselves on teams and don't exist as individuals. We HAVE to let go of that mind thought. I say if you're a traditionalist, you might also piss n shit first before your shower too.... Ah but sometimes l like that warm water on my body first rather than putting it in the bowl..... ;p
