'While Sharp is important structurally'
Whats that even mean? Keep hearing this sort of stuff, 'keeping his width' etc
Hardly getting a touch, as I've been saying, not up to AFL standard.

Freddy the sheep dog is the other one going under the radar, will not go in near the ball/contest, giving nothing.
Freddy has 17 goals to be running second in our goal kicking. Last year kicked 23 goals for the year, to me he appears to have made an improvement.

JOM and Sonny were listed as two weeks away so they will be back for North? Sonny will start at peel presumably but I can see them playing JOM straight away.

Big selection squeeze. Fyfe, JOM, Erasmus, Johnson, Driz. Which two play when all fully fit.
JOM shouldn’t be anywhere near discussions for B22. Been a godsend that he was injured for so long this season allowing other younger players into his role. One year to go on his current contract and no need to extend him. Ras & MJ

Play the youf.
Jom can model for us 😜

This is the way I see it. Jacko wants to be the main man, if he isn’t able to be that guy here, he will leave….
Agree to disagree swanny. If we allow one guy to dictate how we select the playing squad then that is a very slippery slope.

That's what they call the tail wagging the dog 🐕

To win a flag you need a team of players prepared to give 100% whatever role they are assigned.

Whatever, if you think the amount of competitive effort and committment Freddy has to 'the contest' will take us to a premiership, then good luck with that.

Brad Hill won multiple flags.

There's spuds and soft players that win grand finals every year.

Pretty lol how we were all so excited that we were getting a unicorn a couple years ago and we’ve all been grumpy that we haven’t been able to see it yet due to Swaggys issues but now that we’ve seen the unicorn play as a midfielder and go BOG mode there’s still people being all like ‘we need the unicorn to be smashed around every week playing as a solo ruck!’
FFS 🤦‍♂️

Absolutely his competitive efforts could be better but you are ignoring the fact that the opposition fear his speed and ability to kick crucial goals. He is not the complete package, but he is a bloody important part of the team, one of only a few players in our team that I have faith with on a set shot. Also one of our most experienced forwards now.

The idea that Freddy should be out seeking physical contests is bananas. He is an outside player, all his S+C work is on maximising acceleration and repeat sprinting. If he tries to crunch packs and lay bumps, we'll have one of our best forwards sitting on the sidelines with an AC joint or a broken limb. Positions in AFL are highly specialised for good reason.

Jacko was able to spend 75% of the game in the mids the other 25% he was on the bench how isn’t that being the main man?
So we’re just gonna carry Darcy at 50% TOG every week? It worked this once, it’s not sustainable… Jackson is playing too well as the main guy to lower his ruck time anymore than he currently is at.

If I need to break it down for you I will
More games Darcy plays the fitter he gets.
The fitter he gets he will play more ruck time
The more ruck time Darcy gets Jackson plays more midfield
Jackson plays more midfield and around the ball he is happy
Jackson happy = us happy

There is no way either can get in without a big block at Peel, surely...
Walters been out for a long time and he had played WAFL last year. JOM not as long and was in good form before injury. I reckon with JOM he’ll be ready the week after North game. They’ll give him another week of conditioning/ training. I think the sub role suits Fyfe for the next few games.

Some decisions coming and Ras seems likely choice to make way.

Darcy I’d definitely get back to Peel for a game or two where selection circumstances lend.

Wonder if there's some additional context here that could help us understand why Sean Darcy's ToG is lower now than we expect it to be for the back half of the season...

Witts has been a dominant force in the ruck for Gold Coast. On Saturday, he had his second lowest hit-out to advantage of 2025, with just 7 HTA. (Lowest was against likely AA ruck, Xerri.) Witts also had 1 single clearance—he is averaging 4.5 for 2025. The week before, against St Kilda, he had 15 hit-outs to advantage, and 6 clearances.

We selected Darcy to nullify Witts's influence, and it worked. As a bigger body pure tap ruckman, Witts doesn't fade away later in the game, as a more aerobic ruck like Jackson would. Darcy could compete on pure strength, which allowed Dogga to compete in every ruck contest he nominated for, even late into the 4th.

Yeah this. I don’t think he necessarily wants to be the number 1 ruck. I don’t think he likes playing predominately as a forward where he has to pay too much attention to structure and leading patterns etc. I think he just likes to run around chasing the ball like a big happy Ruck Dog Labrador. If he’s played as a Ruck/Midfielder he can be a big happy Ruck Dog Labrador Unicorn.

Yep and with Josh Jye and patty forward jacko doesn’t need to play fwd

Witts is not a jumper. He uses his body and strength. That is the Darcy forte, playing on blokes like that. Nankervis is another.
Jacko finds blokes like that hard to handle.

It did work yesterday, and there will be other games where it may not work and we're better with a different mix. I think this us what Justin means when he talks about horses for courses.

I'm happy to get games into Darcy where the opposition make-up warrants it so we have a choice of two match fit rucks. Injuries happen, and it would also be nice to have the luxury of resting Jacko before finals.

I think horses for courses refers to Voss more than anyone.

He was fantastic against GC but if his form drops and we´re not winning we won´t be going with Amiss, Treacy, Voss, Jackson and Darcy. It´s too tall if we´re not winning and Voss is the easy one to drop if our forward pressure drops away.
