Juniors best game.
See what happens when he plays up the ground.Involved more.
Trainor needs a spell. Disposal and decision making is questionable atm.
A block of games as a midfielder at VFL level was always gonna benefit him. It worked for his nephew Dan in 2021, We did similar with Caddy in 2019. Get em reinvented at VFL level in a new role, drill it, get them fit and confident and it translates to AFL

Top draft pick Sam Lalor looks set for a significant period on the sidelines after Richmond coach Adem Yze confirmed the young gun's hamstring injury "looks like a bad one".

Lalor lasted less than three minutes in his side's clash against Geelong on Saturday when he sustained the injury to his left hamstring while executing a tackle on the outer wing in the first term.

It's the second time this season Lalor has hurt the same hamstring, after injuring it previously in Richmond's Dreamtime at the 'G match against Essendon in Round 11.

"He's done the same one, and I think the mechanism's something that it's hard to train. So yeah, it looks like a bad one, which is really disappointing," Yze said.

"He loves his club, and he loves his teammates, and he just wants to help. So when you see him go out of the game straight away, it flattened us.

"Not only flattened his teammates, but flattened us as coaches, because not only the talent, but he just deserves a good go at it."

Yze said the Club's medical team took a cautious approach with their No.1 draft pick, choosing to wait an extra week before recalling him.

"We were really cautious with him by giving him an extra week and bringing him in a week later. But I think that mechanism wouldn't have mattered when it happened," he said.

"The numbers that he was producing from training were ... like I said, he was ready the week before.

"So yeah, we've got to help him through that. We don't want this to happen again. We want him to have a long career without these little hiccups."

We really could have been a chance at doing something good in the next couple games against Essendon and WC if our talented young players weren't injured. Lalor creates so many opportunities for us but will have missed 2/3rds of the season. I just wanted to see him and Hotton (please stay healthy) play together. I'm really hoping it's not a reoccurring issue in the future. Even if it isn't (I'm concerned), it still sucks that we are going to miss out on more development and getting to watch Lalor play. We're so boring without him.
Keep the faith. Grimes could barely string more that 2 games in a row at the start of his career with out a hammy pinging.
Let's hope they can get him right over the preseason and he gets a full year next year.
Sad we don't get to see him anymore this year though.

Forget the Baby Bombers. While he’s at it, we might as well wipe out all our experienced players.
Steven Wright....Isn't that our former CEO from 20 years ago? Had his chance then and clearly was found wanting. History says he was part of the dark 37 year period, so yeah, I think I'll trust the current regime to guide us through to our next dynasty Mr Wrong

So disappointing not to be able to get games into Lalor, McAullife and Smillie. It’s not about wins , more about the development of our young mids. Let’s hope Hotton has an injury free run at it!!

Got to be a midfielder’s draft for us this year.

Next week
Get Hotton in.
Throw the magnets around, Brown onto the wing in place of Hugo. MRJ and Campbell into some centre bounces.

Outs
Sonsie - insipid
HRS, Lalor (inj)
Ins
Hotton,
Short (the cupboard is bare),
Tresize.

Very disappointed in Hugo - I thought by the end of last year he was ready to make the job from 'promising' to 'good player', but his year has been underwhelming. It is hard playing in such a rubbish side, and Hugo's more an outside accumulator and runner - rather like Brandon Ellis (good player), just nowhere near as good at the moment.

The other one who I am a bit frustrated with is Jack Ross - again, he was set to be one of our midfield leaders this year, had a great Rd 1, and since then - nothing. Yes, he gets it a bit - anybody in an AFL midfield will get the ball 15-20 times a game without trying too hard, but he doesn't create, he doesn't break lines, he doesn't kick goals, and he doesn't win the hard ball. I'm not saying he's soft - he just doesn't seem to be able to win those '50-50 ball in dispute' moments and turn them to his team's advantage.

I really think we won't cut too many at the end of the year - just a couple more old guys - Prestia, Vlastuin may be on his last legs, Lynch has been utterly useless (Trade! - if someone is silly enough to take him) - but it's hard to draw a line under too many this year, considering how awful the team has been.

In: Young, Tresize, Hotton, Short
Out: Sonsie, Balta, Lalor, Alger
Would leave Alger in, keep Tresize out

Easy for a small forward to have a poor game in Geelong
Give him a chance

was yet again so disappointed in Balta.
His terrible year just continues, has done nothing to repay the club after his off field stupidity(all his own making).
No leadership for the youth, no bleeding effort for the guernsey...
No way were going to trade him, but he really needs to look inside himself and figure some things out.

I thought it was quite a good game for us.

Our worse situation for the year and Geelong could not destroy us despite the headlines.

Absolute smack in the guts for Geelong and RFC showed a lot of character

Our defence clearly stood up and we provided a contest.

Focus on the draft and future development we should be crushing a number of teams by over 200 points in the next 5 years or so

the fact Geelong could not beat us by over 100 given our situation is quite damming for Geelong

I could not watch a lot of it because I do not want to see our players hurt but I was anticipating a far worse score result after what had happened but obviously some held their heads high. I am actually pleased. We have had far worse results in the past.

Our kids got more development and Trainor did not get a concussion so it could have been far worse:thumbsu:. Our kids are just starting, they obviously will get better
