I agree, but he kept us in it today.

Yeah, maybe this thread wasn't the best place for criticism after today's performance. More a general thing going into finals or he may take it easy. Some players you do need to keep them hungry and I think he's one of them.

Soligo has been under performing imo and he's very satisfied with his long term deal. He hasn't had 30 disposals once this season. He needs to lift imo.
What? He had a breakout season last year after he signed long term. Was our best after Dawson in the first 4 weeks, looked like he went too hard and is still building his tank (averaging only 75-80% TOG), the bye has definitely freshen him today.

Our depth isn’t exhausted. We have nearly an empty injury list. Other clubs, even contending ones can play test deep into their list. Ours ‘just being at a different stage of their development’ is pure rubbish. There’s over half a dozen players that could have played instead of Murphy and made us better.

Our forward depth is exhausted because of how we have treated our 7th forward role in the last eight weeks, where we've had four players rotate through the role and have absolutely no idea what we are doing with the position moving forward, as were responding to SANFL form.

The evidence says that there is no one on our list who makes us better in this position. No matter who you go here, Murphy, Taylor, Pedlar, Cook etc, we're just dealing with the same shit, unless you want to rob Peter to pay Paul and demote Michaelanny to this role. Nothing about "different stages of development", we just have accrued (and retained in the case of us resigning Cook last year) too many players who are due to be being delisted in this sector and are just waiting the season out to hopefully cut into this issue.

Good:
winning while playing like junk.
Coming from 5 goals down.
Our midfield were excellent and the reason we won.
Rankine, his best game this year
Fogarty was our best big forward
Can we have that Soligo every week? Burrowing in, fighting and then disposing of the ball. Elite game

That was one of our best wins of the season. Melbourne played some seriously good footy and Pickett is a star.

4 points is ours. Super important to just do enough to win that.

Nicks had a very good game in the box, his side were flat, lacked pressure and intensity and adjusted the way we went forward and how we lined up on their players. We locked it down to a contest.

Bad:
Kicking for goal, inside 50 and being outmarked continually. Thilthorpe had a terrible game against Elite defenders.

Ugly:
Literally everything about the game, we lose that last year.
Also Taylor and Murphy aren’t it
Milera and pedlar please
Dees best game for the season IMO.

Taylor had a shit game and even perform more than Murphy today, Pedlar has shown he perform better than Murphy all season and yet Murphy gets recall instead of him when Murphy only got recalled because Pedlar got injured???? You don't think Cook can get 1 disposal per quarter????

This is a pretty clueless post.

Yeah, look, I didn't put anything about the ghost of Neil Craig or whatever other nonsense this board comes up with.

Our selections are as straight bat as they come.

This still ignores what is fundamentally wrong with the Murphy selection, which is that it’s better to play a sh*t kid than a sh*t 118 gamer.

The universe has a rule when something seems obvious to everyone to happen and repeatedly doesn't, it means when explored, it proved to be an utterly stupid idea.

It makes absolutely no difference who we select between a shit 118 game player or a shit 2 game player who we're unconvinced on their future. That's just a PR move for teams who haven't made finals and are desperate to sell hope.

1st half was shithouse. 2nd half was better.
Bank the W and move on.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what we’ll do. Melbourne turned up to play, we didn’t play ‘our way’, nothing to learn, we’ll definitely do better come finals against much better opposition. Probably the only way to improve is to get more continuity into Murphy.

So, are you saying that all of our kids who played SANFL today are shit? Draper, Dowling, Edwards, all of them?

Correct there is no difference in output (currently at least). But when you’ve turned every stone across 118 games to exhaustively confirm a player is not up to it, it is time to move on from them completely.

Murphy is clearly not up to this standard and adds nothing when he is played. In fact, he's a liability. Yet we should still pick him ahead of a highly rated pick 4 who has a huge upside. This makes no sense.
