Yeah dunno about three changes, Smith and Stengle is already two and that's with a side that won by 70+ points.

I imagine what he meant was Duncan out as sub, Henry out of side. That's it.
With Baz and Stengle into the 22 i'd be putting Bowes, Martin or O'Connor to sub but that's just me.
I just hope we get to see Stevens in the middle again shooting the pill out to Holmes and Baz.

I think they will run with a combo of Baz, Holmes, Ax, Mullin for a tagging job and Stevens to round out the 5.
Mannagh and Bowes to chop out anyone if required or changes are needed but the original 5 should get it done.

Gonna need Blics back on Hogan so doubt he spends too much time in the middle unless he's rucking to chop out Stanley.

I like Stevens but I don't think that game is accurate to judge him on. Richmond's pressure is crap the issue is can Stevens cope on a bigger ground (more endurance running) with a team that puts more frontal pressure on? Gws next week will be a better guide of opposition. I like Stevens but I'm not convinced he makes it how the afl is played now.

He was always going to look better than knevitt or Clark early on as he has a more mature body.

Lot of recency buas here comparing those 4 players. Stevens was excellent on debut but Richmond were equally pathetic. They had no interest in game and have started their holidays already. George has to play gws which will give much better indication of his talents. There's a reason Scott played him inside mid all game, If he fails inside he has to be subbed out cause nowhere else he can play.

C4 reckons Archie Perkins wants out of Essendon. Only posting because we've been interested in him in the past.

I don't particularly rate him, but he's just about the perfect example of a player I could envisage Chris Scott and Nigel Lappin turning into a bankable player, if not a star.

Same probably could be said about Fly and others at the Pies. I could imagine him getting fitter and looking a trillion dollars in that side… and Fly is a big one for wanting players not picks…(although that has to have a tipping point). Would they go into next years to get him? Pies too?

Im still not sure what his type is and where would he fit in our side. HFF? Mid?

I don't either, but he's got enough talent that I wouldn't totally be against it.

Scott and Lappin would focus on what he can do, rather that what he can't IMO.

To be clear, he either does that (McRae or Mitchell could probably do similar too) or he's out of the AFL in 4 years. It's not exactly big praise.

Agree on Hobbs though, just doesn't have enough standout traits.

Didn’t see this till after I posted … similar thoughts.

Wonder if Suns will take a go at him to get Sam and Ted together on the GC?

Maybe we should be asking about Sam. They will continue to add players and eventually they will lose talent. Another crop of nga/academy kids for them this year

Cats NGA Jesse Mellor was super dangerous all game here. He's an interesting hybrid of small forward with excellent contested marking skills which he showed on a number of occasions. His pressure in the forward line caused a number of turnovers from his opponents, and he was able to create a significant number of scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates.

His ground movement is very much like a Trent Cotchin... different player ofc, but just reminds me of him when he starts running and attacking the loose ball.

Yeah I don't know about that.

I'm going under the assumption that Geelong want him and he knows that.

If he goes into the combine and kills it... all of a sudden Freo or some other interstate team might want to bid on him.

If he sits it out... he is a cat and can stay home with just about 100% assurance.
If he's good enough there's a bid, he's good enough to get matched.

and the way we draft.... clubs will bid just to make sure we pay up for him whether its of fair or over value..

Of course... Wells wont over pay as its just not what he does... but it wont surprise me if say hes rated in the 50's say and another club picks him at 38 or so. ... just to make us use the pick earlier.

GO Catters

Bit to work with there, bit raw but he's a competitor

TBH I would be surprised if that happened.

With George Stevens going from possible delist to potential Wells Special in the space of 4 quarters, (Go George!) it has me thinking about list spots. My conclusion is its not easy to create vacancies.

1. Mullen. Requires an upgrade from rookie list so we start at Negative 1.
2. Stanley. Probably retires but if he does one pick has to be a Ruck. But I have said that before! His retirement takes us back to zero.
3. Duncan. Great career Mitch. Thanks for every game. We now have one vacancy.
4. Bews. Jed gets forced out. He is really unlucky. He might get another chance at another club. Now, 2 vacancies.
5. Cam Guthrie. If he retires, but I doubt he does. His record keeps him on the list. Not adding a spot here but I know many see him as gone.
6. Wiltshire. The success of the 23 draft makes creating list spots much harder. The tightness makes Wiltshire a delist. Possible re rookie. We now have 3 list spots.
7. Knevitt. Maybe we can delist and re rookie someone like Knevitt. But I think he is worth perservering with. Hope to see him in the side again this year. This probably is achievable. That makes 4 spots.

Thats it for me. 4 spots with one rookie relisting (Knevitt) 5 If Cam Guthrie hangs them up. I'd think 4 is enough but it depends on what happens in trade week.
Clohesy is also out of contract. If we keep him he like Mullin has to be upgraded from the Rookie list.

Bugger. You are correct. That makes Ted an upgrade or delist and re rookie. I really hope we can keep him. I think he is best 22 next year. Hope Ted and Andrew Mackie agree.

I am also still super keen to keep Mitch Knevitt. Obviously he has been around for a while but with a slight frame it take years to build up and then this year has been messed up by injury. One more year please.

I will however, surrender on Cam Guthrie. Last week he was a test and this week he is 2-3 weeks. That means there is not enough season left for him to get going to play finals with any match fitness. That's it now. So he makes room to keep Ted.

Just saw on Fox Footy that Max Holmes was told at age 15 by someone involved in recruitment at an AFL club that he was too small and too slow to make the grade.

So when it came to draft time, Max said he didn't want to talk with that particular club.

Was he running backwards? Probably someone from the Saints though.

Pretty bold if he actually refused to talk to them. Or was he just unenthusiastic?

The way it was reported was that he "refused" to meet with them.

The broader context was his ability to hold a grudge years later.

I suppose if it was Saints, Carlton etc, then it's a handy excuse :P
