Still not sure about Caminiti as a defender.

Not sure about him at any position, tbh.

Not saying he can't make it but he is a little slow to react to forward movement and gives away too many free kicks.

When wrestling one-on-one, he is pretty solid at stopping his opponent though.

He certainly has the competitive spirit but not sure if that's going to translate to being a successful full back.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm not writing him off, but I would be 50-50 on him making it long-term as a defender at the moment. And less confident he will develop into a gun defender.
That’s fair.

My point is really more that we don’t need him to develop into a gun defender. We need him to be Zac Dawson in a good defensive system.

Wilkie and Sincs are elite. Travaglia and Tauru might become elite. If our system winds up with Tauru the interceptor. Wilkie the hybrid, travaglia the distributor etc. then Camma JUST has to be a lockdown negator.

I think he’s shown plenty to suggest he can do that

This joint is absolutely cooked , the amount of rubbish getting posted at the moment is at all time high levels, there must be about 50 people with contacts at the club judging by the amount of " Iv heard , I'm told posts.
Everyone so desperate to known as the king :rooster: of Big footy.
Someone even went out on a limb and said he is waiting until the end of the season , that's outrageous

Captain-Coach of the Old Grump team right here :tearsofjoy:

Given this example a number of times, but was told to me personally by him that O'Meara was either going to Carlton or North and he ended up at the Hawks. He would have been as ITK as can be as it was about himself, but it was not correct. Maybe at the time it was, but things change.
That why I cut info from people some slack, things change.
Haha I’ve got a very similar example - was told by Jamie Elliot he was 90% over the line with going to GC and because of his injury (can’t recall what it was at the time) he didn’t think he had many years left, since then he signed on with the pies, got on top of his injuries and many years later is still one of the best small fwds 😂

I would have put my house on him leaving after he said that if someone challenged it!!

Haha zero chance I’ll be saying who but it is someone senior at the club.

Who knows maybe it’s bullshit or he changes his mind and he announces tomorrow!

I was also told by a different source at the club a few weeks ago they were confident he was going to sign for 4 years and that obviously hasn’t turned out the case so my honest opinion is no one has any idea what’s going on.
Christ , you have more sources than i have in my cupboard at home and that's saying something, I'm guessing one word on the second line sums this up as you're saying you have several sources yet are telling you different things

This is also true. I hope he makes it.

I love how hard he fights.

Just not convinced he has the footy smarts. Chalk and cheese to say Wilkie. I understand they are different players and roles but point remains.

If it was just locking down on a single-player single-mindedly, I would give him a huge chance.

But the way modern defences work with zoning, pushing up the ground...defenders need to have smarts to close down space, take different opponents, communicate with the other defenders.

That's what Caminiti struggles at in my opinion. Not the see opponent, stop opponent element.

Still plenty of time for the coaches to teach him positioning and patterns, and it is possible he might only need to be a good second tall defender as you say.

I do think there is a chance that the coaches see him as a forward still too. He trained pre-season as a forward and when Howard came back and Tauru came in, literally the instant we could move him forward, the coaching staff have used them there, albeit with not much success.

I would like to see Howard at full back, Hammer as the second tall, Wilkie as the interceptor. Would be interesting to see how that triumvirate would function together.

It's a good discussion. Hopefully he finds a position and settles soon.

Different people in the club have different roles/access to different info, I’m the first one to say take my info with a grain of salt and I think I’ve even recently said no intel is guaranteed or can be guaranteed it won’t change.

I would also never claim to be an ITK as I’m not.

My other source never said “he has signed for 4 years”, as I said he was confident it was going that way so I didn’t post anything on here until I heard more and nothing eventuated.

I’ll keep any new info from here on out to myself though.

Keep bringing your positive vibes to the forum 👍

IMO he’s been as good as Howard at any point for us, I still think most teams have a place for a monster lock down fullback.

Good discussion though, I agree.
