Gunston didn't lay a tackle tonight, should we drop him?

Gunston is going to face Stewart next week. But I think you are a chance to beat Geelong, you have won your last 4 finals vs Geelong.

I picked Hawthorn by 17 points. I expected it to be closer.

Adelaide were pathetic tonight, awful turnovers and we got what we deserved.

Midfield looked small and weak in all eight quarters. Didn’t help that Dawson played two stinkers

Curtin’s development will be interesting and whether next year is too soon to put him on ball for the majority of time. How they improve that area will be something to watch
Simple reason for Dawson struggling both finals, no a grade mid with elite kicking skills to take the heat off him without Rankine there. Also both teams played Adelaide late in the season and lost because of their mistakes that Adelaide capitalised on. Both Collingwood and Hawthorn looked at those matches like professional teams and coaches do, they looked at their mistakes and corrected on them.

Collingwood didn't lower their eyes and got outmarked by the Crows defence. O'Brien and Thilthorpe worked Cameron into the ground and their midfield got on top in the last quarter. Hawthorn panicked under Adelaide's pressure and kept putting their teammate under more pressure looking for the release handball until they eventually turned it over.

Move forward to the finals and Collingwood exposed the hole that no Rankine left in Adelaide's side. The brought Cox in to avoid Adelaide's defence intercept marking and Cameron getting worked into the ground. They exposed Adelaide's lesser midfield by turning the game into a stoppage game which allowed their smarter midfielder's in Pendelbury, Sidebottom, Daicos and DeGoey more opportunity to exploit the slight lapses and mistakes in a position where it's likely to result in a Collingwood score and backed them in to be good enough to make it 6 points.

You only have to look at Hawthorn's first 3 goals tonight to see the change that Hawthorn made. Release handball and then the moment their forwards get in a position to have a shot at goal they should make they took it. The multiple talls to force Adelaide's defence into 1 vs 1 contests and their smalls to back their ability to kick a goal when the change presented.

Adelaide finished top because they took advantage of the breaks that went their way better than any other side. They lost both finals because they were out coached by an opposition that was better prepared. This is the main reason that I never considered Adelaide a flag threat. Eventually you have to start winning against top sides because of more than just capitalising on their mistakes. The only thing that surprised me about both finals is how relatively one sided they were.

Shame you never saw 97/98 - that was a scary, scary football team.

North was equally terrifying in that era.
really? they only won 13 games that year. I think it's the least of any premier in the AFL area.

they were the best team on the day though, that's all that matters.

If you need it to be correct as a coping mechanism then I'm more than happy to oblige. So sure... you're correct.
Lol.

The Crows were overawed, played like they were scared. Any of the top 8 sides would have beaten them tonight.

Was not impressed at all by Hawthorn, sorry if it hurts your feelings.

Were Adelaide so bad or were Hawks so good or a bit of both.
Hawks shot out of the barriers and that put pressure on Crows who fumbled and farted around .No one would attack the contest they just stood still and were reactive.
Not manning the mark aggressively.
Static in the middle.
Poorly coached.
Needed to get Tilthorpe in the middle.
Needed to get Ratshell in the game earlier.
Cummings is useless.
Tex has to retire

No offence to Nuke here, but for a guy who can mope around in a regular season game and only touch the ball 15 or so times, he sure can turn it on during finals. Absolutely dominant so far

Well we sure know who Mullin is going to next week.....

We're going to tag Mullin with Newcombe!

so finish 1st but don’t have the depth to cover a single player. that’s an a-grade team there.

probably had shingles or the pox, or whatever excuse they’ll come up with on wednesday
Which is exactly what my point was. Adelaide weren't the best team. They finished top because their 2 a grade midfielder's had excellent years. This allowed their lesser role players to just play their role. When one of those elite level players goes out the side it increases the heat on the other player and the role players aren't able to pick up the slack
