Also, as good as they were in the GF, I can't imagine anyone talking about the success of the Lions in the Grand Final and their lack of gun key forwards watched any of their other games this year.

There's a reason they targeted and are paying Oscar Allen close to a million dollars a year. Their key forwards were evidently the weakest part of their list all season. It's scary how good they could be next year if Allen stays fit and with another year of development for Morris and Gallop.

You're surprised an opposition supporter would want to banter about a potential trade between the clubs for their respective players? That's all I've been doing. I suspect once the trade is done, I'll be gone as will the Swans supporters from our board. As far as Im aware all my interactions here have been cordial and good natured with your fellow Swans supporters.
Just so many , i hope the swans over there are behaving

I feel like im repeating myself :( but Curnow makes it easier to get there then its up to the players to not go into their shells.

We have been there twice in the last four years.

Proven we can get there. Not sure Curnow really helps our mids show up who went completely missing in both 22 and 24.

Yeah, which is why when trying to improve a list you should probably be looking at the weakest components of it. For us, that's the KPPs at either end.

I actually think our current weakness is lack of talent/depth in our mids outside of Heeney, Gulden and Warner.

Rolling the dice that Mills will get back to form, Gus takes the next step without addressing it IMO

Unfortunately for Oliver, he's getting an absolute pasting on our board. Ridiculous IMO.

Shouldn’t be playing HB still don’t get that move but Voss knows I guess

He doesn’t

The style of game in Grand Finals doesn’t suit big forwards and the modern game has moved away from them towards quality mediums and small forwards

We’re trading away one of the best medium forwards in the league and mortgaging our future for a dying breed

This is Fevola trade levels of stupidity

Nothing is official yet but i think we tried to keep Hayward but it sounds like he was needed to get the deal over the line.

Both Hayward & Florent have been perennial sources of frustration for mine. Like everyone, I rate what they bring at their best. We just don't see it anywhere near enough and 180+ games in and at 27 years old, it feels like that's never going to change.

Hopefully the club have handled this as respectfully as possible and both guys are dealing with it okay.
Florent yes, hated having him in defence. Hayward not so much. Mostly liked him.
That last is super important.

CC would be great in red and white. I'd love to see Logan Mc, Amartey and CC in the same forward line. My concern is what is the plan with the forward lines small, mediium size types, if the intention is for us to utilise Heeney 70% in the forward line, with Mills spending more time back in the mids, that could work. But i dont feel that Haywards absence can be adequately covered by anyone as we only have the traditional smalls available to fill the void such as the likes of Dattoli, Campbell , Rosas etc but I'm sure the Swans brains trust is all over this!? Perhaps Logan plays more of the roaming half forward given that he isnt a great contested great and seems to have good footy smarts?

You are right. I'm pretty sure they have been thinking and planning for it. This now gives us some intriguing options.

Fair enough. I disagree, personally. We were above the AFL average for clearances this year and below it for goals inside 50. Makes sense that that's where we would be looking to improve the list for mine.

On that – neat website for in-depth team stats for anyone that's interested:

a dying breed?

Every club that made the top 6 this year had a player kick 50+ and if you put every player in the league on an open market I’m confident Sam Darcy and Riley Thilthorpe would be in the top 5 most valuable.

We’re an outlier compared to a lot of contending teams over the past 5 years with the lack of a #1 goal scoring option - even Mihocek for Collingwood in 23 kicked more than anyone except Buddy has for us since Barry Hall - we’re just propped up by a midfield that is amongst the greatest of all time in goal kicking ability.

Doesn’t have to be a key forward, guys like Fritsch and Elliott have kicked around 60 recently but we don’t have that type of guy either.

It's not done until it's done. Ollie and/or Will could have a change of heart & refuse to be traded. Who knows, maybe other team mates are telling them to stay. I'd have no issues if either or both players change their mind & refuse to be traded.

Probably an unpopular opinion, the club is bigger than any player except for Heeney and Gulden their mint.
Some people (media) had a go at us for not trading in players last year, now a few seem to be annoyed that we are.
Cox is a man of his word it seems.

This also untill its actually lodged nothing is official players have toured facilities in the past without anything happening.

Looking at this all objectively we look better with Curnow in, Wilbur and Ollie out. It will free up cap and also create the space to make sure we have enough picks to get all of King, Carmichael and Kyle.

But, I guess im not as ruthless and transactional as some and im saddened by the prospect of moving the Doozy Bros on.

Good thing I'm not in charge.

I think you forget they are still human beings and develop close relationships at the clubs. This is one of the reasons delisting is so hard for a player. The psychological affect on a player can be devastating. you can talk professional all you like but professional only means they get paid,. It has nothing to do with the friendships they develop and the routine of a place that now feels comfortable. It's called the homeliness of the known. The comfort of the known.

Not disconnecting from the fact you build relationships and suck (have been cut from a few teams in my own time as well, plus moved to chase my own success).

It hurts but they will be able to move on from it, the Swans and Carlton will help them with that transition as well.

If Amartey can stay on the park he won't be getting the no.1 defender anymore which may add another 20 goals to his annual tally.

I only watched Carlton when they played us so a tiny sample size does Curnow like to draw the defender and lead to the ball? or is he a more wrestle type.

I think they will need to get used to their leading patterns and space

The relationships built between players from NSW & QLD team would be stronger than those in VIC imo. Most of the guys would have lived together at some point for a period of time since being drafted. Have the same friend circles, go on holidays together, etc. This will be very hard for some of our guys if it happens.

If we get Curnow then it'll be awesome but if we keep Florent & Hayward, it hopefully means the squad has another edge knowing that trading players is a reality if they don't perform. Either way I can see positives.
