Looking at this all objectively we look better with Curnow in, Wilbur and Ollie out. It will free up cap and also create the space to make sure we have enough picks to get all of King, Carmichael and Kyle.

But, I guess im not as ruthless and transactional as some and im saddened by the prospect of moving the Doozy Bros on.

Good thing I'm not in charge.
Not to mention any other player will realise they need to perform every year of their contract at our club. I’m curious to see how many players have an improvement on last year with some hard work.

I am just happy that the club is trying what they believe will make them a better team in 2026. None of us really know whether Curnow will help us rise back up the ladder, we have fallen short the last 2 GF’s, there are reasons for that, only time will tell and we need to trust the club that what ever decisions they make they are doing it with one thing in mind and that is to win our 6th premiership. If that means trading out players, I am all for it, this is the nature of modern footy and we just need to accept and ride the bumps, premierships are bloody hard to win, but you have to be ruthless in the pursuit for ultimate glory.

I love Curnow as a player but this is Crazy Vossy territory, the deal we are giving them is ridiculous and has the potential to set us back many years

Didn’t 10 years of Buddy with nothing to show for it teach the club anything?
What deal? Nothing official yet is there?

Sucks to lose Hayward but hoping Dattoli with an injury free pre-season can step up and take his place.
Wouldn't Bowman be more of a similar player to Hayward. Harley was very complimentary about Bowman when they asked him to name a Swan to surprise. Im not sure what the actual question was but he did name him as perhaps ready to step up.
I see Hayward amd Bowman with similar traits and body types. Dettoli seems more nuggety and has less of an aerial game

Depends last reports were Collingwood are baulking at offering their 3rd round pick which is 61
I’d let him walk to PSD then. This actually does create a risk for a Collingwood, as if Buller comes to strong form he is a delisted free agent for life I believe? You don’t really want that for someone you think may have strong upside.

He can sound like a curmudgeon at times, but can't believe some people don't like Healy in the media.

Who else in the AFL media landscape would you hear talking as passionately about us as that?
That’s his thoughts not everyone’s. Doesn’t mean he is any more passionate than you or me. Sorry He is passed it. Constantly talks dribble during game commentary on Fox Footy.

I assume this is tactical leaving it so late to present an offer? Trying to make them rushed into accepting something by putting the offer in so late. If they reject it though we could **** ourselves over badly by not allowing ourselves time to find a plan B (I hope we have one lined up just in-case of a rejection).

If it's not tactical and we're genuinely still trying to find an offering, you have to question what the actual **** they've been doing for the last 2 months. Yeah it doesn't happen overnight but if we're still not ready 2 days out from deadline for something we knew about back in August, and had these conversations we needed to have with the affected players weeks ago, then seriously wtf.

Surely as a club have known what and who we were going to offer them for Charlie for weeks, ****ing surely?
Like I said, assuming it's all tactical (but yes at the same time, based on last offseason and the small pieces being reported, slightly skeptical too).

Pick 61 does have potential value, as indeed does their remaining pick 77.
They have no points attached, but under the new bidding rules;

Picks in Rd 1 (10% discount)
Picks 19-36 (84 pts discount)
Pic 37 onwards match with your next selection

Previously it was a 20 per cent discount for first round picks and a flat discount of 197 points for picks outside of the first round.

So in certain scenarios picks 61/77 could have as much 'value' as pick 38.
And taking one of those picks, if that is ultimately the best offer from Collingwood, is certainly preferable to letting Buller walk for nothing, if we are anticipating multiple bids on Academy players

Do you think Sydney knew he was flagging his intentions to leave back in May? extremely unlikely we were chasing McKay but he had a change of heart and decided to stay at Carlton.

I think the biggest reason for having the conversations so late is to ensure that the players and their managers aren't able use the extra time to their advantage and consequently foil the Swans' bargaining position in any hypothetical trade. If the news had leaked months ago that we were probably keen on marching Florent on, then he might have sought out a different club and forced a trade like Curnow is now, and thus his value also drops significantly. It's brutal from the club, but it's also the surest way of getting us a deal. Hayward being packaged up with him is probably the only reason why Florent would agree to this trade, frankly.

In 2016 our big key forward did his ankle early in the game and it was downhill from there. In 2022 we lost Reid early and it was downhill from there. In 2024 we played a hobbled McDonald and it was downhill from there.
Big forwards can make a difference in GFs.
Exactly this.

All those goals small forwards kick in GF from loose ball gets, who brings the ball to ground?

And who demands enough attention that smaller players have space?

In a GFs*, there are far fewer clean ball gets all over the park because the pressure is so high. We don’t suddenly say that players who base their games on pin point passes suddenly become useless. So why call out the players on the receiving end of these passes?

*GFs where Sydney are not the opponents 🤣

Everyone likes to look at Brisbane but how many of their goals were from Morris (and Hipwood when he played) creating a contest everytime. It’s not about just marking it, but you then have crumbers off the feet. That’s the other issue especially last year if McLean doesn’t mark it the contest is useless. Now Logan back helps but he is probably still a year or two away from this consistently.
