I agree, he is a burst player who is very poor when down on confidence. I can think of a player very similar to Schneider who pretty much single handedly won us the most important game of all. (thank god he wasn't traded)

We have been screaming for our kids to get a run, Roos' does something proactive for the team and you are all slamming him!

As far as getting rid of Mathews, Bevan, McVeigh, Crouch etc goes, to the best of my knowledge, they are all still contracted, so unless somebody else wanted to trade for them, we would have to pay out their contracts to delist them and we do not have the room in the salary cap to pay out contracts AND pay for the needed replacements.

To all of you that are going on about only getting pick 26 for Schneider and Dumpster, I have two thoughts on that one. Firstly I think Dumpsters head was on the block and Roos and Lyons between them have worked out a deal that gives him a second chance at no real cost to either side, I personally don't think he has what it takes but you never know, a change of scene might get him to actually have a go. So in effect, we got pick 26 for Schneider and if you removed the emotion, that is all he's worth. Secondly, If we had gotten any more picks in the draft, that would just mean more delistings of the kids that we have bemoaned all year haven't been given a fair go, to bring in MORE kids that wouldn't be given a fair go.

As a few have said before me, Roos got us our first flag in 72 years and I think he might like to get another one or two before he packs up the white board. He, Ireland and Stewie know EXACTLY what they are doing so I think we should show them the respect they deserve.

That's precisely what I'm worried about. It seems as though Roos is fixated on trying for a flag in the next two years without thinking at all about what's going to happen after because he won't be here anymore.

Look, I know it's all about balance but after the trade week, we ended up with one pick less and two new players that made us even older than before. Stuff more picks, I would rather have gained an experienced player from the Saints than pick 26. I doubt that anyone that we manage to get @ pick 26 is going to give as much as Schneider has. Looking forward to sitting back for the next few years and watching Schneider carve us up every time we play the Saints - NOT!

Good luck to Dempster, I reckon he has potential that has gone largely unrecognised @ Sydney. Hope he gets a regular opportunity to have a real go at it . Saints got a pretty good deal with these 2.

Although I am pissed off that Schneider has basically been given away I am excited about seeing Mattner and Playfair go around next year.

Fosdike's disposals in the second half of the year was very poor, especially the delivery inside 50 (and I've spilled my disgust about his around-the-body-kick which I hope would be out of his system all together) - would have been great if he was utilised in the Mattner trade.

I went to both games against Collingwood in melbourne & I can NEVER remember so many Swans supporters bagging the crap out of every single player for one thing or another.
God knows exactly what they wanted from them but the fact is that this team was sore & sorry & stale. Yes...stale!

I had a Sydney based Swans supporter sitting right behind my family & me & my three kids couldn't believe that he would come all the way from Sydney, as he told us before the game started, only to bag every single mistake or stuff up that our players made. When Schneider missed that shot infront of goal from a MOL mark that injured him, this guy absolutely hammered Schneider everytime he went near the ball. Now he probably posts on BF having a go at Roos for trading him.

And how exactly is Schmidt going to get a go, when he couldn't replace Schneider in 2007? A year in which you believe Schneider was failure.

Roos has had plenty of opportunities to play kids, but has failed to do so.
The only 'kid' who has established himself in the team in the last 2 years is Malceski and he's 23 (the same age as Dempster & Schneider).

Roos has said he has selected Mattner & Playfair to fill specific needs and therefore one would expect he would play them before youngsters.

Mattner is 25 & Playfair is 24.

Indeed if we accept that only Schneider was a regular, it means with Mattner & Playfair playing that there will be one LESS spot available to blood youngsters.

Your argument is that it is "Time to give Schmidt & co a regular go now."

Clearly there will be even less opportunity now.

You lost me completely.

There's a lot of other players that underperform more than Dempster had, are much older, on much higher salary and yet they are staying. I'm not going to name names here (though I've done so elsewhere), but if Roos/Ireland really want to solve the problem they claim that they want to solve, then the trades doesn't make much sense.

There are 4 x 28 midfielders in our side that has underperformed in our side this year. Two have a bit of trade value, two doesn't. It would have made much more sense if at least one of the two that has trade value would be traded and one of the two that doesn't to 'retire' and have his salary spread out over say 5 years to ease our salary cap.

If we do that, then our side would have actually gone younger and not older, which is the case we have now. Not only did we trade away two of our 23 year olds, we traded away two of the quicker ones - to 'make our team quicker'.

There's lot of ways to ease our younger players into the team rather than trading away the younger talent, but he's way too protective of the 'older brigade' even when it's clear that they are underperforming or had been over-taken by the youngsters.
