Other Colin Kaepernick is Righter Than You Know: The National Anthem is a Celebration of Slavery

No one cared until Trump said something. It fizzled out. Maybe lasted half of a season? Trump made it something it wasn't and then all sides dug in.

There was no rule. NFL could have easily followed Stern's example for the NBA. They did not. They didn't care. They certainly didn't see Kapernick as some threat to their revenue.

It was all but dead. Nobody cared. Then Trump opened his big stupid mouth in Alabama of all places, a state that doesn’t even have an NFL team, and with good reason, and it exploded. This was another tangerine created crisis. And even threw the league under the bus.

The NFL probably lost viewership on both sides of the argument -- for and against Kaepernick.

The Eagles signed Vick after he was released from PRISON. If an NFL team thinks you can help them win AND the price is right you will get a contract. If not, you will not work in the NFL. See also Tim Tebow. Nate Bowman, Perry Riley etc etc. So many examples. Kaepernick over-valued his services. Not complicated.

The Niners drafted Reuben Foster in the first round after failing is PRE-COMBINE MANDATORY DRUG SCREEN. The guy had massive issues but the Niners though Foster could help them so they took him in round one. Kaepernick is simply not that good.

Is the new league "conspiring" against Kaepernick? How about Canada? Kaepernick is a fool.

See also....Josh Gordon constantly getting work post-suspension. Redskins claiming Reuben Foster after DV issues. Browns claiming Kareem Hunt after more violence. Joe Mixon getting drafted 2nd round after his incident. Etc with examples.

Over valued his services yet Tyrod Taylor had virtually identical stats to Kaep, same running type, yet he got $17-18m a year.

What they should do is just put them back in the lockerroom during the anthem. That solves it. It was only after 9/11 that they started coming out for it anyway. The NFL got by for like 90 years without players being out there.

yeah I dont think going back in the closet fits in this millennia GG;)

Interesting you bought up Vick, it's valid comparison with Kaep, much of the Eagles fanbase hated the move, myself included, & I suspect we'd see a similar split if Kaep gets a gig somewhere, as unlikely as that is.

Personally I view Kaep as just another sellout. He may have done & still do some good, whatever. He got the payday he was after, hopefully he goes away & spends it wisely, out of the public eye (yeah right rumply).

he wanted 20m and to start. Making demands when hes not that good. He was starting to slip before the anthem stuff.

You think he wouldn’t have accepted 12-15m? 20m was never even a fact.

Tyrod is equally garbage with the added bonus of not having a circus follow him. Your refusal to accept or even acknowledge this, to say the least, is dumbfounding.

It's most likely Kaep will never start in the NFL again. The pressing point is how much do you pay a back up (indeed, how much is he asking for?) who is limited to one type of offense and comes with baggage? Easy enough to see why people pass.

I meant more the circus surrounding signing Kap, a huge distraction to the "team first" mentality of most clubs.

Not the lockerroom thing so much.

Tho we saw how Carr not kneeling with his teammates in 2017 caused the 2-0 Raiders to fizzle out, apparently team disharmony.
Yet AB and Bell will get contracts no worries

You are right, if your good enough in the NFL, you get a contract.

16 TDs 4 INTs in one of the worst 49ers team in history. And can’t even get a back up offer the following year? He would have negotiated down eventually if not a starter as always happens. It was taken out of his hands though. Your refusal to accept this highly unusual situation is dumbfounding.

Less than 200 yards passing per game and with passing yards average that ranked him 24 out of 30 eligible Quarterbacks. Almost all of his QB statistics are middle of the road ordinary. Sadly, this has devolved into you demonstrating your moral superiority than casting a critical eye over football play.

Unless the QB was initially a starter who has since been demoted, nobody is paying a back up QB over 10 million per season to ride the bench. In a hard cap league and in every other position, that salary is an every down player.

Nothing to do with moral superiority, get off your high horse.

As I said before in the normal process of negotiations he would have agreed to a contract that fitted the role I.e backup as always happens in pro sports.

The issue here is he never got an offer in the first place. Nothing to do with how much he was asking for

On this subject, you're sadly misinformed.

Ah no, Elway was referring to offer he made before the kneeling saga.
You said he wasn't offered any contracts, I just showed you one where the Broncos were willing to trade for him and offer Kap a contract as a back up. You're now moving the posts to expressly post contract expiration. Even then, he didn't like the money.

You've been smashed from pillar to post by multiple posters here yet stubbornly, you still cling to your delusions. I'm now placing you on block, you're not worth the time.

Wtf are you on about? The whole argument in the papers/press is post the kneeling.

You post an irrelevant article and start flouting ‘smashes from pillar to post’ bs.

What an extraordinary rant.

Believing that Kaepernick could win a collusion case against one of the country’s most powerful private entities was always a naive dream. It’s difficult to compel companies to admit wrongdoing, but a settlement can be considered a tacit admission of guilt. Perhaps the NFL thought there was a chance, no matter how small, that it could lose.

Don't forget he had a contract and walked out on it believing he could do better when he is basically a more expensive, more drama version of Fitzmagic.

Writers that take this view still seem to believe a contract for Kaepernick is interchangeable with a rookie deal or Kessler basically on minimum which is a load of s**t.

He blackmailed some billionaires, good for him.

The writer didn’t. He mentioned Bortles as an example... and the fact that Bortles was so bad he was replaced by Kessler who was even worse.

Not comparing rookie deal at all.

Take a look at Kessler's contract which is bugger all and Bortles for that matter, the Jags can't / couldn't dump him that easy.

Nathan Peterman was on a rookie deal

Josh Johnson was paid a minimal amount.

It is intellectually dishonest to compare these players to Kaepernick after he walked away from $12M+ for one year.

When was that offer made?

How many players walk away/reject a deal and then either negotiate another deal with another team. They eventually come to some ‘arrangement’, in particular a guy who’s just started 11 games but can’t even get a back up anywhere.

How many offers came his way? So rejected one offer and that’s it, your career is over. Yeah right

Tebow and Dilfer started 11 games, does it really mean anything?

He was backup level when he walked away from his 49ers contract. That doesn't mean he wasn't / isn't better than some starters but those teams generally are looking to draft a QB or grab a stop-gap (likely to lose games) rather than a drama llama that took the NFL to court.

If he had stayed with the 49ers and played well (unlikely) he might have been traded and or got another contract but we'll never know. Other kneeling players were signed to new contracts including on the 49ers.

Was he good enough to be on a roster? Sure. Does that mean the NFL is obligated to give him a job? Nope.
