Been to a few Doggies MCG finals since I was old enough to start going to the footy (mid 90s), but the 97 + 09 prelims can EAD (probably the two prelims along with the 85 PF that gets talked about from our end)

16 SF against the Hawks was great though, too few and far between those games

Was that the game with that mark of the year?
Nope

That was the next year, Essendon spanked us that particular night when it looked like we might have started to build some momentum, sent us on to a pretty poor run after that.

The 1980 prelim where Daics took that absolute screamer (IIRC). Come from behind in the last to win by 7 points.

The 81 semi between the Pies and the Roys, very high quality game decided by 1 point. Guys like Gary Wilson, superboot Quinlan, Rendell, Craig Davis, the Macedonian marvel, Ray Shaw and Ricky Bahram running around strutting their stuff.

96000 at VFL park against Hawthorn - that one we lost.

The 1980 Night Grand Final - umpiring hearing loss and another GF Collingwood loss.

Was an amazing experience (1995 ANZAC DAY Drawn match). 24 years later can still remember the sounds of the old blokes listening to the radio near us (no headphones/ a proper big old school radio) the excitement in The last few minutes then silence and shock as the siren went and smells of spilt beer in the aisles as people tried to sidestep past us to get to their seats. Brilliant memories.

There was a Rich v NM Monday night game the night before I reckon that was pretty good too.

Richmond went mental in the first kicking like the first 9.

Just remember Nick Daffy going crazy and Archer kicking a crazy overhead goal.

2004 final, between Port & St Kilda when Gehrig's 100th goal changed the momentum of the match.

1994 state gsme between SA and Vic when Ablett Snr nearly won it for his team with seconds remaining.
I went to these 2.

Classics.

Saints were all over them.

SA V VIC was crazy!

Round 16 , 1993 vs Richmond
Tony Modra kicked I think 13.3 or something like that.

I think he also kicked 10 in Round 1 1993 also against Richmond.

Would’ve hated to be the Tigers FB that year!
I was at these 2 also.

Modra was a freak.

1993 he was brilliant.

Hangers galore!

I feel bad because I used to hate that he was so good and want him to play shit [emoji28]

Anzac Day Zaharakis Edition

99 Prelim

93 Prelim

Was at these.

Zaharakis game was great. Pies had it in the bag! My sister goes for Ess so we were all cheering withher that day. Was fun.

99 Prelim was total shock. You just were waiting for Ess to go BANG but just couldn't get going. Kouta huge!
Up the top of the old Ponsford again. People leaving the back stair aisles in disbelief. Almost knew they were gonna be rolled by North the week after.

93 was a classic.

How did Adelaide lose?

42 points down at half time not really firing a shot.

Bewick epic.

I remembera goal Mercuri kicked on the run in the 3rd to get the Dons to within 2-3 goals and the noise was deafening!!

We sat under the 2nd level on theold olympic stand and the noise just rocked and rolled the old joint.

Ablett v Salmon shoot out.

Didnt go but was at an Old SANFL double header at footy park and Remember the ground announcer updating everyone during play saying the scores and how many salmon and Gazza had and the crowd being more interested in that than the live SANFL going on haha

I was at the port v eagles extra time final.
Great game but I still think the OOF call late in the game was a behind and cost port the match.

Also went to the geel v Melb final last year.
As a Melbourne fan it was a pretty emotional night and I think 60,000+ other people felt the same way after the game.

I was a kid at the Stk vs Ess 'lights out' match at Waverley in 1996.

Stevie Milne kicking 11 vs BL in 05 was one of the most incredible performances I saw.

R14 2009 Stk vs Gee is still the best game I've seen live.

1, 1991 Crows v Fitzroy.. Jameson with goal after the siren.. this is the famous game where the Fitzroy fans though they were ripped off.
2, 1993 Crows v Pies Round 22... Crows had to win to make their first finals series. very famous for crows fans
3, 1997 Prelim.. Dogs v Crows
4, 2007 Elim final.. Hawks v Crows :(

I Consider all crows home games in 1993 "famous" games... Modra kicking bags of goals and taking those high flying marks etc

Been to plenty of famous games, Blights goal against the blues, Essendons win at PP in time on after Fitzy gave a free which saw the blues lose when in complete control plus plenty of others.

One that might not appear famous was Cartlon v Fitzroy at PP in 1987. Roys in control at half time or that was my memory as a 16 yo. Des English and Peter Motley were wheel out in wheel chairs at half time in the grandstand of the social club to a standing ovation from everyone - the blues never looked back. Des has cancer and Mots we all know that story - will never forget it.

Jeez slim pickings for these at tigerland

Richmond v Melbourne tanking/McMahon goal after the siren

Richmond v Geelong 222 (fun night that one )

Sheedy and Hird’s last game in Melbourne

Joel Bowden rushing behinds to win game, part of the reason for the rushed behind rule being introduced

2017 GF

Also Richogate and Dean Polo Dreamtime games that may/may not be memorable to non Richmond/Essendon supporters

Was there that night, only time I've ever heard my dad drop the C bomb

Most of mine mentioned by others but these random games spring to mind:

1. The Sheedy Marshmallow Qualifying Final and that Carlton WB game where the second quarter went for an hour (both in 1998)

2. Richmond v Adelaide debacle at Telstra Dome in 2005

3. Our two biggest losses of all time to North and Hawthorn

4. Brett Burton MOTY 2009

1995. Harry Madden's 300 never heard a crowd roar that loud after Bradley kicked the sealer on the run.
1994. Collingwood v Essendon Damien Monkhorst starts a fight during the warm up, remember my Collingwood and Essendon mates along with 80,000 others going balistic and most had not taken their seats yet.

That would be the 1986 state of origin game between the big V and WA. Comes up regularly in best ever AFL games discussions and rightly so. Incredible high scoring slug fest and with the decline of state of origin its unlikely we will ever see more talent and passion as was assembled that day

Been meaning to go right back to see how many games I’ve been to. Reckon I can remember most and back in the day I used to go to a couple weekly. and many my team weren’t in with mates etc.
Been to 10 GF’s to start with, famous?
Probably 84 Essendon comeback counts.
89 Haw v Geel.
The game Ablett kicked 14, Salmon 10, seen Ablett kick 14 v tigers, Dunstall 17.
Was at a draw Rich v Ess which was Tim Watson and Van Der Haars debut and I think Royce Hart’s last. Richmond v Carltom the scoreboard caught fire and another fire at Arden St.
A game not famous but never forgotten by me was at the western oval Footscray v North and Doug Hawkins Hurt his right leg, had to come back on and played the most amazing quarter carving North up with about 10 of the most amazing kicks on his wrong foot I’ll never forget it. The Essendon v Eagles game at windy hill when Eagles kicked 1 goal to Essendon 20, Richmond coming from about 55 down to beat Hawks early 00’s, Fitzroy last ever game in Melb v Richmond tigers by 150 odd, Richo 21 grabs, Andrew McLeod being applauded off the ground by tigers fans after a clinic late 90’s at the G.. many more.
