Richmond supporters are up and about. Nankervis smashed it all night, really??? Got 3 cheap easy goals, couldn’t win a hit out around the ground, was always behind at the boundary throw ins. They also can’t see that Lynch and Mr. Flogside in the same forward 50 will come undone sooner rather than later. Lynch knows where to lead and if he gets good delivery could be unstoppable....unless you have the hero....who constantly leads into his space, spoils him in contests, makes it all about himself and try’s to take a hanger ever 3 seconds then complains when he gives a free kick away. A decent experienced back line and they might struggle I think

I dont see it that way.
Lynch is green and raw and still learning Richmond's pattern of play - and unlearning some bad Gold Coat habits.
Jack has been the sole target forward at the Tiges for some time and has had to do it alone, so it will take time to iron the bugs out and learn to play together.
Thats why it was good that Hardwick played Lynch last night.
(As for playing against a decent experienced backline, at least they don't have to worry about that when playing the Saints.)

Not all ruckmen in the league are elite, but Nankervis is more than serviceable (better than some worse than others) and the Richmond mids are elite and able to get contested ball.

As for Jack (Mr Flogside - really?) every side in the comp would have him in a heartbeat.
Yes he may carry on a bit and wave his arms around like a windmill and complain at times, but no less than his cousin did.;)

I think his cousin conducted himself 1000 times better. Things he had to deal with and he just went about his way and got things done, jack made them all about himself, when things at times were closer to home for Nick Seriously who gets up on stage to try and take over a performance and sing while a massive international act is on. End of the day the only pictures on Jack’s walls are photos of himself

Charlie Curnow was pretty poor last night. Might have been just an off day for him because when he is on song Carlton are a far better side

On what evidence?

Last night was better than Carlton have looked in his career.

This has gone unnoticed. For a bloke many expect to break out and become elite, he was invisible.

Obviously only one game and still expected to do great things this year, but not an ideal start when the conditions favored a good showing. Especially when Rance went out of the game too.

Let me guess bitter over the sheer amount of times he has torn St Kilda apart?

You seem to have an unhealthy fixation on Jack.
I don't know how you would know what pictures he has on his walls - maybe you should stop stalking him.
As for ego - a lot of great forwards have had much bigger egos than Jack, liked to lairise and carried on like absolute peanuts.
He entertains, the game needs it.
If you can mark like Jack, kick like Jack and play like Jack - who gives a shit?
He is not the type to get himself into get himself into strife off-field either - unlike some who we won't mention to a Saints supporter.

Young Harry Mackay gave them a focal point but a dangerous goal kicking additional tall in form surely makes Blues better. He can play Curnow but was woeful last.night

And yet has been more successful than almost every single St Kilda player in history

I like the whinge, wouldn’t you rather win games? I know I would. I’ll take 22 flogs if we win...

Good opening game. A lot to like from a Carlton perspective, they should win a few more than last year if they can keep that up. Richmond still look a tough team to beat but it was interesting to see how with decent skills and composure, Carlton was able to account for them for fairly sustained periods by maintaining posession. WC picked them apart last year using that game plan- it looks to be a bit of a blueprint if a team has the skill and talent to execute it.
Great shame about Rance, looked very much like a medial ligament to me at the time which is a 4-8 week injury but read today they think its an ACL. Will hurt Richmond but give them a chance to find different ways to win and blood new players.

Agree.

Walsh miles ahead of Rioli, who is in what his third or fourth season?

Same Rioli who kicked 3 goals in a high pressure Prelim ? Same Rioli who was a jet in a winning grand final, that one?

Jesus you try too hard! A first year kid making his way in Walsh ( quality kid) in your mind is already miles a head then a proven finals game day performer.

Now this type of posting ill mimic tonight and call it game day related talk, so don't cry like last year, as you have earned it.

Spot on mate.

I love Rance, he is a 5 time AA for a reason regardless of the BF hate he cops on here. Rance not being there allows us to change this mix of our back 6, a back 6 that has been incredibly stable for 5 years. Now we can change the dynamic, find a player or allow increased game time to a player who has not had the opportunity like a Balta.

You see all 17 clubs have drilled down on our back 6 and studied them, now we can change it up. It may be a silver lining.

We add a Garthwaite, then we have 2 stoppers in him and Astbury for the gorilla forwards while still keeping our intercept game alive with Grimes, Vlaustin and co. We get to have a kid like Garth surrounded by experienced elite talent to increase his development while he plays. Will he replace Rance like for like ? No way, we will miss his leadership but I personally am excited to see who out of Grimes. Vlaustin and others in the back 6 step up to cover the leadership void.

No, in the context of the post I was responding to, Walsh was miles ahead of Rioli last night.

Brittle bunch you Richmond folk...

Nice post.
Good to get a supporters perspective on how a re-vamped Tigers backline might operate.

Carlton played well could not sustain the effort for long enough stretches. Setterfield, Walsh, McGovern, McKay all showed good signs for the future.

Shame about Rance looks like an ACL the way he fell looked like medical although the way he clutched it on the ground looked standard ACL. The lachman stress test is pretty good guide to ligament damage MRI will confirm everything.

Hopefully it's on the lesser end grade 1 never know until after the scan

Lol basic human rights.... it's a sports injury and dimma basically confirmed it post game, every other sport in the world is opt-in about injuries and you pretty much know before the game is over. It's not like they are telling everyone about which players have std's or some shit.

It's ok mate eventually you will get another greatest player ever to carry you to flags.
I dont think you've thought it through. The post was calling for information relevant to gambling. Why would that not include STD's that could affect a players performance?

The guy has an unhealthy fixation on Richmond - check out EVERY SINGLE match day thread from last year. He and Magpie Monopoly should do themselves and everyone else a favour and ban themselves from Richmond threads. It’s pathetic.

Pat Cripps has gone to another level has to be a legitimate brownlow threat if the baggers can win enough games. Can't see many taking votes of him at ikon park either

Even if Rance has done an ACL I'll wager he plays again this year.
Would be huge!

Goldsack did it last year, right?
I'll somehow need to go back and find it, but I'm sure Nic Nat said last night on ch7 post game one of the reasons Goldy came back early was he delayed initial surgery and did a weights bassed squating program that enabled a far quicker post surgery recovery.
