You can't get through to the Collingwood supporters they just see what they want to see, and let's face facts here the 666 rule is like being kissed on the dic$ by the fairy's for them. This rule is totally designed for Collingwood and Geelong. It's ironic that Collingwood has bolstered their midfield over the past couple of years and we have sat back doing nothing (I smell a conspiracy and I bet Mcchins has a lot to do with it).

666 Definitely designed with colonwood's midfield (especially Grundy) in mind. Last year, they were blessed with the easiest draw and a free ride with Umpring fratenity all year except the GF, where bias is rarely a contributing factor. WCE and Colonwood basically copied our 2017 gameplan with the glaring exception of not "copying" the free kick differential. I still think we have an decent midfield, but last night all of them were poor.

sorry but i don't buy that.

Shouldn't matter what time of the season it is, giving an effort should still be required.

Take aside all the positional, structural and personel stuff, there was simply no effort or desire from 95% of the players last night.

that shouldn't be the norm.

Do we really think players werent putting in an effort? I dont believe that.

I saw us chasing arse all night, I never saw one player that I can say "he didnt run or chase hard enough", we laid plenty of attempted tackles but they were poorly executed and they broke them, that was the frustrating thing for mine, that and our continual inability to find a way to stop the rot against sides that possess the ball with short chips. Thats 3 sides now that have played the blueprint to smashing us - Crows, WCE and now pies.

I think we got exposed for class in the middle,a fair few players had mares and our coaches were exposed, but I dont believe we had a lack of effort.

We know we rely on our fab 4 because they are so damn good and they cover a lot of deficiencies elsewhere.
With 2 of them out long term and Martin playing average football, I don't see how we turn this around this season.
Hope to be proven wrong, but there are a lot of role players that looked better with the Fab 4 who are going to be exposed now.

Our midfield is pedestrian outside of cotch, prestia, Edwards, Graham, dusty all look bog average. Prestia especially, his touch isn't there, though I did laugh when he fumbled and couldn't pick the ball up and he got pinged for htb on the wing.

you can honestly tell me you thought Dusty chased players down during the night or even attempted to?

i 100% agree with the bolded bit, but effort was lacking big time as well I reckon.

I’m not Ellis biggest fan but shit there were so many worse than him.
Sometimes that sort of a game is needed to show the game has moved on. Time to lower our eyes and move the ball in a different way otherwise we will just hand feed teams all season.
Not sure what that means for some players. Butler and Castagna are both pretty limited basically because they are tuned to play to a style that won us a flag but that won’t work anymore. They need to change or they’ll both be permanently VFL players soon at the expense of some of the kids.
Same with Ellis but he just seems to be the one who cops the brunt yet he tried harder than those two passengers.
Need a bit more midfield depth too I’m not surprised in the least Martin is doing it tough.
Maybe it’s time for an arse kicking and bring in the likes of Ross, Baker, Bolton, Naish, Garthwaite, Stack etc and flick a few off to either wake up or it’s over for them.

Agree RD

Ross, Baker, Bolton, Stack, Garth could easily be introduced over the next month without wholesale changes.

We need to nail the structure first though which is less flanker and more ball winning!

Or at least play someone who loves the contest as a flanker ala S Stack.

I’d give Ellis another run through with a decent midfield/team in. At least until Houli is ready.

Markov and Weller could come out for Ross and Stack as a starting point.

George/Butler given a chance or out for Baker/Bolton.

If need be bring in Garth or Balta as a tall option or C Moore as a forward.

These players have a pass for last night

Grimes
Vlastuin
Broad
Edwards
Cotch
McIntosh
Lynch
Nankervis

The rest were a fair way off the pace.

we need the following core players to lift, currently in pretty poor form
Prestia
Rioli
Dusty
Astbury
Butler
Lambert

Can we please stop assuming Jack’s injured long term? It’s just some media flogs making stuff up for Twitter attention. The man himself made fun of the original reporter.

I agree about Dusty, that was an oversight on my behalf - I disagree about the 95% of the players comment

we are gonna be terrible for 3-5 years when we start our rebuild at the end of 2020

rather that again than topping up old lists like hawks and cats to finish in no mans land forever

we need to do the ground up rebuild like last time if we want to win more flags

#tigeshaveinjuries

  • Grigg
  • Houli
  • Caddy
  • Rance
  • Then we lost Riewoldt early
All our premiership players, the real reason we lost ask any pies fan in 2018

we are at the peak of melting now LOL
It's why an early season loss is good, not just for the players but for the fans as well, because all we have heard over summer is good news stories about how well we have trained and it's a shock to the system when you put in a shocker early doors, and that goes for every teams fans.

Don't mind the loss. We beat them twice last year. Meant nothing when we lost the prelim. Happy to finish lower this season (ideally 4th) and peak at the right time.

Outs:

Weller - Not great under pressure
Prestia - Had a stinker, needs to learn how to hit a target
George - Point machine, i'd back him to kick a point from the goal square
Riewoldt - Injured

Ins -

Balta - He looked too hot in JLT to not get a run
Stack/Bolton - Whoever has had a better preseason
Houli - If fit
Townsend - Always want him our 22, clearly the best tackler on our list

Broken scaphoid would be probably a better result for Jack than not. At least it gets repaired that way otherwise the ****ing things ache for years.

Garthwaite - key defender (Rance)

Moore - key forward (Jack)

Balta - 2ndruck / anywhere
