Outs: Riewoldt, Grimes, Markov, Weller, (Ellis)
Ins: Moore, Balta, Garthwaite, Ross, (Houli)

Moore and Balta to split second ruck duties. Moore to FF and Balta to CHB.
Garth and Astbury lock down defenders, Broad and Vlas to intercept/provide run
Ross rewarded for a great preseason and 2 strong VFL practice match performances.
Ellis to be replaced by Houli if fit.

How far off is Caddy?

There’s a couple of ways dimma can play this, he can be all sentimental and allow a handful of players that show all the signs having peaked have a mortgage on their spots or he can turn them over and freshen the team up using the talent from a very good vfl team. This weeks a dead set danger game , we got the game to win it
He'll go the first way, unfortunately. He is way too forgiving with some of the '17 premiership players (Butler, Ellis, Castagna). All three will still be in the side this week. Garth must come in for the best defender in the game, while we need either Moore or Townsend to give us a little height in Jack's absence.

Ideally, I'd like too see Balta, Baker and Ross come in too, but I'm not holding my breath.

Why do I have as horrible feeling that all of Markov, Weller, Butler, Castagna and Ellis will remain in the side.

Our midfield problem

Could be, I've been thinking along the same lines. But who knows???

So we let sam loyd walk out the door and replace him with
Someone who plays the same role but not even a
Quarter as good in weller ..good times.
We did the right thing by Lloyd.Because things are going pear shaped now doesn't make the decision 6mnths ago wrong.

And therein lies the problem. As I said last week, it's not 2017 and it was a damn long time ag. The game has evolved again.
If we play like 2017 we lose - the rest of the league is onto that.
It's part of the problem, blokes like Butler, Castagna, Graham, Broad, Nankervis were unknowns in '17. They don't fly under the radar anymore and teams pay them attention. They need to evovle.
It was a great time but forget 2017 - the rest of the league has and is prepared for us. We're an open book.
We were a better team in 2018, one bad half cost us. This team has enough runs on the board not to dismiss after a poor start to the season. Just need to get back to our manic pressure and run and carry game. We’ve gone away from that in the first 2 games. Just remember we were terrible on Thursday night against probably the best team in the league and we’re still in it half way through the last. All is not lost for 2019... yet.

Probably in our best interest if we don’t play Ellis for the rest of the year, any time he gets a game lately he only ensures we’ll be lucky to get a 4th rounder for him in the coming offseason.
Lol the way he played Thursday night we’d be lucky to get a fourth.

Let him chase his free agency at the end of the year, let him be lol norph’s big fish, even if it means we get nothing for him.

If he’s still on our list next year I’ll be spewing.

He won’t make 6 changes when can get away with 3-4 . I just have genuine concerns over a few of the names that keep coming up that they don’t have anything left in the tank in terms of upside and are well off their peak. The good news is that small forwards are replaceable. Jack absense is huge as he was the general down their and set the tone with pressure , prob why dimma will resist tipping the rest of the smalls out

We were s@$t

Pies were all over us. Were the better side all night. Unfortunately they have a side of talent where as we are full of battlers. Once dusty is tagged it’s very evident our midfield is bang average.
We were s@$t

Think realistically
These changes may happen

Ins Moore/Balta garthwaite Ross Baker
Outs Riewoldt grimes Weller Markov

Haven’t seen Prestia Rioli butler castagna astbury Lambert that bad ever.

Blokes in bold are meant to be a graders to most on here yet they were horrid.

I feel with this 22 Though

Short Garth broad
Vlastuin astbury b Ellis
Lambert Martin mcintosh
Rioli Moore/Balta Higgins
Butler lynch castagna
Nank cotch Prestia
Edwards graham Ross Baker

We can beat the Giants. Ross in as a big body ball hunter will help cotch out drastically! Martin will be tagged nearly every game from here. Baker brings More then Weller, George can play caddy’s role, Garth natural in to play on Cameron, Markov won’t play again. Would rather Moore then Balta as he pl/QUOTE]

Looking forward to the challenge moving forward. Will learn a lot about how good Hardwick is as a coach compared to other teams who have dealt with injuries and succeeded. (Hawthorn, West Coast and Collingwood) last year. Not all doom and gloom will finally get a chance to see a few more players. Been the same 25 players for 2 years. Plenty of opportunities
Pretty average sides don't win 37 from 44 games.Dusty was good last year but to say his fellow mids are average is an overreaction to our current form.

It’s unfortunate, but I think we’re asking too much of our defenders to also have to defend the result of a Bellis contested kick.

I wouldn't mind Markov, Butler, George getting another game or two. Especially is Caddy is still unavailable

OUT: Jack - injury.
Omitted: Short, Weller, Ellis

IN: Garthwaite, Houli, Balta, Moore

Houli Astbury Garthwaite
Broad Grimes Vlastuin
Mcintosh Cotchin Edwards
Higgins Moore Rioli
Butler Lynch George
Nankervis Martin Prestia
Balta Markov Graham Lambert

edit: Balta to backline, CCJ as 2nd ruck if Grimes suspended

We are rooted in the short term.

Alex’s durability is now a liability... need to tweak the backline to operate without his leadership and skills. That could take 8 weeks.

Grimes out for a week is a disaster.

Jack our for a month is grim. Another leader on the pine.

The only upside to all this is it’s early in the season and it’s not August. We can still do some damage but it will be dependent on how we adapt and how the brains trust tweak the side. It’ll either be a brave successful year or it will be 2016 revisited.

dusty should be dragging us over the line to win games instead hes coasting

Wayne Carey wouldnt have helped much on thursday night

Pies completely controlled the match, out-coached and outplayed

is grimes challenging ?

It was a bad loss. Pies beat us up im contested possessions, we got smashed on the outside and the inside 50s. We didn’t cope with their game style and frankly didn’t work hard enough.

It was a bad game from the match committee, coaches and the players. They all need to lift especially given who we have next week.

Looking on the bright side and long term these spate of injuries and suspensions will allow some of our talented kids to get some exposure that they wouldn’t have under normal circumstances.

Obviously we won’t get the same output as the champions they are replacing but these kids can really play and I think our long term future is pretty bloody healthy.

Guys like Moore and Bolton would have already played a lot of footy in other teams.

Balta Garthy and CJ both have massive upside and could be 10 year players

Ross- mark it down now will be a long term player and future captain. Nothing flashy or fancy about him just racks up the possessions and does all the team things (30 plus touch’s again on Thursday)

RCD - still a way off but big big upside

Why is Weller in the team and Bolton is not
