I don’t think it was simply about being retired by the club.IIRC, Dunkley, Kelly and Schwass all finished up in 2002. Roos had input into Dunkley retiring and wanted to move on from him. Proved to be the correct move. Long time for him to hold a grudge.
I am hoping Logan comes back like Thilthorpe did...farken unittt
I formed the same impression. Half-back flank is probably the easiest position to play and show some athletic flair in an awful team.Bowman actually showed a fair bit in defence, but I believe it was an educational piece.

6. Rampe was talking about Ling. He never made it, not through lack of effort, perseverance or resilience, his body let him down.I think Rampe is unique in many ways.
1. Undersized mid/defender that had leap and pace to compensate for his lack of height being KPD on the monsters
2. Footy brain plus pace plus 188cm is relatively unique.
3. Left footer with a very big kick.
4. Thinks outside the square. Unique. A source of great help to other defenders.
5. The general of the backline. Organises. Played goalkeeper by way of his pace intercepting balls heading for goal.
6. Thoughtful and inciteful. The thinking man's footballer. Loved his speech at the AGM on resilience refering to a player who had endured a lot throughout the year, and persisted, and got there or did not. I don't remember. But he persisted.
My biggest regret is that he did not play as a big bodied mid.
He would have been awesome.
Bonz , im glad you know his feelings lolHope so might add a bit of variety but you know my feelings on playing guys in silly roles. Much rather them be great in their natural role. Not against a role change a bit here and there but has to be limits
Pretty sure he was playing in defence so that he could actually see the ball. Our forwards were not going to develop in this year's VFL setup, so he needed to be moved back to do so.Bowman has been playing in defence in the VFL as the third tall/rebounder whatever you call it.
Wouldn’t have come into it simply put had to give something to get Curnow in. He had value, Florent didn’t really aside from the salary dump
It seems that a number of them go to the SANFL to continue their careers. I know payments for VFL squads aren't very much, so I can only assume that the SANFL pays better while still allowing them to be in view of AFL clubs.Of the Academy kids what are the odds or likelihood, and maybe this is part of a larger discussion, if they don't get selected for a squad spot that they end up on the VFL list?
Shouldn't this be part of Sydney's overall development plan to keep kids in their system essentially for longer periods?
Of course this is without putting other life factors into it re: employment, maybe they don't want to pursue a career in football, heading home etc.
Sorry, I thought by your comments you were very young. Yes, my first visit to the SCG was in 1969 for the Au v WI cricket match. I loathe watching cricket and was bored all day. I loved playing but watching bored me to tears. We were visiting Sydney from Adelaide, having moved the year before from The Hill.Ok. We'll leave it at that. I don't see any star dust back there, I see a couple of good solid players but no one who commands the defense. Outside of Edwards, there is no threat to their position either - IMO. I like Edwards as a prospect, the theoretical is impressive but he needs to put it all together.
I don't know how old you think I am, but I've got a decade plus on Grundy and my first visit to the SCG was nearly 40 years ago
If he stays fit and plays all the pre=season games yes. He would be a huge advantage back there. Like a giant out of Sci-Fi movie.I’d be a fan of debuting him soon to see what he’s got
You get some that stick around the VFL side e.g. Podmore-Taylor, but not usually. As has been mentioned, there's greater security, chance of being noticed and $$ if they can get a non top-up contract in a different state league or team though.Of the Academy kids what are the odds or likelihood, and maybe this is part of a larger discussion, if they don't get selected for a squad spot that they end up on the VFL list?

I don't agree with that. When we got Bud we could no longer offer Mummy a contract and he was happy to let him go. Spangher, Mitchell, Biggs, Membrey, Nanka, Aliir. We lost too many players and the players we traded in were sub-standard. That was because of Bud's deal. So, I really don't think Horse is any different to Cox. Just did things differently. Not so direct. But Mummy never forgave Horse and the Swans, he was happy at Swans.100% if Longmire was still coach he would not of done that and we would not have Curnow.
He had a much stronger relationship with the playing group.
In Sydney some could get a spot on the VFL list at the Swans but that is limited and as you say the SFL is ordinary. The SANFL, I think, is a better comp than the VFL because the rules are a little different, last touch and quick ball up, no nominating rucks etc. It looks a better game than the VFL. The pressure looks greater too. The highest scoring team of the year won the Premiership, In the VFL, Southport were the highest scoring team but were runners up.It seems that a number of them go to the SANFL to continue their careers. I know payments for VFL squads aren't very much, so I can only assume that the SANFL pays better while still allowing them to be in view of AFL clubs.
If they were to stay in Sydney, they would have to continue to develop in the SFL which won't help them at all compared to other comps.

May have been the right move at the time but he was extremely pissed off at the time and has held that grudge ever since. As a result, he was never happy to have Josh go to the Swans which has cost us dearly. I realise this is all in hindsight and you can't possibly worry about the possibility of F/S pick results 15 years down the track.IIRC, Dunkley, Kelly and Schwass all finished up in 2002. Roos had input into Dunkley retiring and wanted to move on from him. Proved to be the correct move. Long time for him to hold a grudge.
Several players said they get far more money playing for an Amateurs or country club than the VFL. These clubs bring in a Marque player on a shit load of money and the VFL etc can't match that as their budgets don't go that far. Ther VFL Salary Cap in $110,000 for AFL Aligned clubs, because the AFL listed players come under the AFL Salary Cap and $220,000 for stand alone clubs. If you have a list of 40 players for AFL aligned clubs and 44 for Stand Alone Clubs the payments are; Aligned $5,800/year & $5,000-5,500 Stand Alone. Some country clubs are paying well over $1,000/game. Compare the VFL figures to the SANFL that have $400,000 minimum and also milestone payments for veterans. There is no comparison. You get some that stick around the VFL side e.g. Podmore-Taylor, but not usually. As has been mentioned, there's greater security, chance of being noticed and $$ if they can get a non top-up contract in a different state league or team though.
Hopefully, our VFL team will be stronger this year. Some of the players we have insisted on playing that were justr good NEAFL players are not good enough in the VFL. Not only that, we have traded in very badly. The VFL listed players are ordinary. They need to be improved. This is difficult as the player payments are so effing bad, it is so difficult to get good players when they are either playing the the SANFL, WAFL, Amateurs or Country leagues who all pay far more.So long as we don’t waste half his career like we have others and put him in his actual role
We had every chance to take himMay have been the right move at the time but he was extremely pissed off at the time and has held that grudge ever since. Well that's great because its time. If I hear one instance of excuse like give him time he has missed a year of footy I will spew up. Its time to deliver. The time for he's coming along nicely is over.Sydney have been very happy with Logan's progress and his been doing extra work this off-season.
His not going it be a Thilthorpe type, but he has put on muscle without ruining his best traits (endurance and running).

I guess this answers the Rampe and Lloyd questions
And that will be..... anotherletdownI could imagine Chamberlain might get a bid very late. His form was poor this year, but 190cm+ wingers don't come around too often. I have a feeling we won't match if so
And we didn't because? We had every chance to take him
