Is this the AFL trying to help out the Roos here?
How in the hell is anyone agreeing to #11 for #25 and a future 2nd? Likely at the bare minimum #20+.

I don't care about the points. That just isn't even in the realm of sanity and simply couldn't be the best bid out there from a team.

"key parts of the swap", there'll be more to it than just this.

I was thinking the same thing. Some graft maybe.

As far as the Swans are concerned.. Depending on where the bid comes for Dean, this guarantees our p31 & 32 move up at least one spot and possibly two spots after Carlton match the bid. Before this trade, the Swans picks would stay the same or possibly move up one spot.

Net result is a positive for the Swans points.

As far as Carlton is concerned, their 2nd pick after matching the bid on Dean will be relatively the same, And they get a future 2nd.. So a net gain for Carlton

Surprised we haven't heard any rumbling about a trade for GCS's picks 15 and 18 yet. They will want to break those in half to get more points to help match their 3rd and 4th academy guys, think its Addinsall

Kyle is expected to attract a bid inside the top-30 in this year’s draft but said he was “in the dark” around whether or not the Swans would match it.

The 18-year-old was in Melbourne on Saturday to train alongside some other highly-touted draft prospects as a member of the CDG Sports management stable.

Carlton are idiots

Trading the first we gave them for pick 25 and an F2

Realistically that F2 is probably pick 25 at the earliest and potentially pick 30 if North take a jump.

So they basically traded down and didn't get a points gain

Also the F2 won't matter in matching for Walker because of the 2 pick rule and if he is a top 5 prospect there is no way that a pick in the 20s would do much to help match unless they have a top 5 pick as well

Maybe. But maybe their thinking is - if they keep pick 9 and/or 11, West Coast would be very interested to bid on him with their pick 2, this way West Coast's pick 13 advances by 1 or 2 spots.

Without picks 9 and 11 West Coast would not have such an incentive to bid early. And Carlton improves their total points in this draft and gets second rounder in 2026. They might've looked for a better deal with other teams to get a first rounder next year, but got no takers.

So you guys will have more of an understanding of the process around clubs talking to players, but my understanding is if a club has spoken to players they are required to log that discussion with the AFL somehow.

I have been told by a little birdie that one particular club known to be handed a premiership from the men in green have been in contact with a potential recruit to arrange a last minute meeting, to try and circumvent having to log the discussion and in similar words told the potential recruit, if anyone asks if we have spoken to you, don't say we have.

Hello Carmichael ? Woof woof.

Not one of our academy kids, but a Vic kid who some believe could go earlier in the draft than expected because of one of his physical attributes. Did anyone know Pendlebury was a talented basketball prospect when he was younger?

Sweet and instead of getting a high quality player for that #11 (that was going to slide to about pick 18) they are gonna get 2 picks in the mid 20s in different drafts.

GCS are probably going to trade out their picks in the teens for picks in the 30s and 40s so it means that the picks in the 20s probably hold ground rather than moving up.

Therefore by the time that pick comes up its just a match on Ison.

So they have effectively traded #9 and #11 for #21 #25 #27 #30 and an F2.

They will have effectively matched Dean and Ison with picks 9 and 11 and gotten an F2 out of it if my maths is correct.

That is horrific trading

If I was Carlton I would have looked at 9 & 11 for 21 27 and an F1

Yes. That's the point. The rest isn't even worth discussing. You don't give up pick #11 for two picks #25 and similar because the rest isn't going to make up for it.

Sydney will likely match it, no draftee is going to go out and say "My club have told me they will be 100% matching the bid".

Puts you in a hard situation if a club comes in a bids at pick 5 or something just to play games.

Just an FYI - Keane will be on the Gettable Draft show tomorrow morning at 10:30am

GETTABLE DRAFT COUNTDOWN - MONDAY (times in AEDT)

9.15am - West Coast list manager Matt Clarke
9.45am - Richmond recruiting manager Rhy Gieschen
10.00am - Gold Coast recruiting manager Kall Burns
10.15am - Essendon list manager Matt Rosa
10.30am - Sydney list manager Chris Keane
10.45am - South Australian draft prospect Dyson Sharp

Another FYI.

I came across the Footy Stuff Draft guide on YouTube where players are critically assessed and ranked into tiers. It is in 4 parts and will finish on Tuesday. Currently in part 2 and has assessed 30 players in descending order. The only Swan mentioned so far is Carmichael at Tier 4.

Easily the best draft guide yet IMHO.

Not wildly different from what lots of others have said except that it appears to rate Kyle and King lower. Some nice video.

Is Kyle really worth pick 14? I mean I like his attributes, but I am very surprised he has risen up the ranks so much in the draft in recent months.
Lot of hype given his build and combine results. It'll be interesting to see if clubs see a good AFL player or an athlete. If he gets bid on early and we match, at least it shows there's multiple clubs who see the former and not just media/fan hype.
