No it's not !! ......it's why Clark left GEEL for FREO .....and Jhye Clark (Top 10Pick) struggles for games

You simply threw something into a post .....give me an example then

It's what they (and us) sometimes do, but only when you are dealing with the cream of the crop talent. To give an example, we could have easily dropped/not selected Curtin at the start of last year when he was half forward, but persisted over better short term options because Curtin's eventual importance.

However, this "smart club" stuff only works when the player is tagged as an eventual game changer for the club. In the case of Sid Draper? I think it's valid. After all, that pace is going to be such a weapon once he works it out.

When do Geelong play in form mediocre players with no standout AFL traits over guys with potential AFL qualities?

Geelong keep out guys like Worpel for that reason and instead take punts bringing in players like O'Sullivan and Humphries quite early on.

Every single thing the club does should be about winning the premiership.

We're clearly keeping Soligo in the team to build him back up so he can be an important part of a flag attempt

No different bringing in players from the twos. Choose flag winners and get them playing their best footy.

If form is the only thing that matters, we would be playing guys like Burgess (previously) and Borlase every week
There's a big difference between building players up, like the "experienced" Soligo .....and essentially a rookie in Draper

ESS threw Sharp into their side & he floundered ......haven't you learnt yet, doing an apprenticeship in the SANFL is not bad .....let them work on their deficiencies there

When ready, Draper will come in as a MID, not a small fwd ....let him develop the necessary fitness & mid craft, to give him his best chance of making an impact

With a history of body failures ....the lessor pressure of SANFL is ideal ....it's a long season, no need to panic

Brisbane have done it the last 2 years.

You MIGHT say its by necessity but its not that either. Gallop, Morris, Marshall, Ashcroft, Fletcher.

You plucked Geelong out who have a well-known history of topping up instead of playing kids, however lets have a look at them..... Dempsey, O'Sullivan, Mitch Edwards, Lawson Humphries.

Next time you'd like to have a stab, make sure you get it right. Means I probably wont be hearing from you.

Who rucks if Maley doesnt play considering we dont want to play Filthy there ??

We should, but we arent
I’m assuming Fog is out for at least another week so Maley gets another game.

Long term I’m not sure, i don’t like us getting taller in the F50 with Fog, Walker, TT + Maley/Murray or want TT doing a heap of ruckwork, but he’s probably the best option structurally.

Draper is so important to our midfield mix ....Curtin for that matter as well ....one aerially, one a line breaker

It should be a no risk approach to a long season for both .....I agree, Curtin's body allowed him to be blooded early ....there is a limit in a team as to how many you can "carry" .....Soligo, under normal circumstances would be dropped, but instead he's getting low TOG of 66% last night

I don't reckon Brisbane would pick James Tunstill over Dan Annable

They also moved on guys like Devon Robertson and Rhys Mathieson.

You do realise Worpel has been injured

O'Sullivan is equivalent to our Curtin .....and Humphries at 22 only played his first full season last year

You're asking the question ...so you must have an answer

Soligo wouldn't be dropped under normal circumstances because we've already pulled the trigger on a change there, and considering the role he's moved into (permanent half forward), he's performing quite well. After all, he's not in our midfield rotations at this point in time. Value of players being versatile and whatnot.

If you are going a "no risk" approach, you are not playing them full stop. Eventually, you do just have the roll the dice and say they'll hold up. Draper has got through a few SANFL matches, and whilst he's not 100% ready at this point form wise, the opportunity has opened up now to do so. After all, you can shift the magnets so players like Peatling and Soligo (noting he played 75% last week) can fill the extra 5-10% of game time to manage Draper at 60-65% TOG.

The answer is they don't. Geelong are ruthless with their depth

You said ALL good teams ....so I wasn't cherry picking, unless you want me to go thru every team

You can't be serious to compare Dowling to Ashcroft or Fletcher

Gallop was thru neccessity ....in the same way Borlase is for us

And none of those you named have had the injury problems Draper has had ....which go back to his Draft year

Soligo is bog average currently .....don't let one play change that thinking

He's essentially playing as our 23rd player at present ...... Pedlar back next week

Until Soligo is back to his normal self ...and that's as part of the MID rotations ....I'll be surprised (unless injury dictates) that we'll see Draper for a few more games yet

The **** SANFL fixture doesn't allow Draper the playing continuity he needs at the moment

Edwards was a similar pick in the draft to Sam Marshall.

It's time for him to get a taste.

Dowling I think is another Hately.

Oh I agree, Edwards is comfortably in front of Dowling .....but for who ?

All the stats say, Berry had a great game last night ....but if you watch him carefully, he was on world record pace for fumbling
Oppo players give Berry the slip way too often ...and if we played any of the better performed Clubs ...his flaws would be amplified

I'm not suggesting Edwards for Berry though .....it appears at surface level, to be Nankervis versus Edwards

How so?

All of Keane, Butts and Murray have proven themselves to be far better AFL footballers than Borlase.

Both Edwards and Dowling have had superior games in the SANFL for the Crows better than anything Draper has produced and most certainly this season. Both Edwards and Dowling had full preseasons and never missed a beat, Draper had a very limited preseason and thus far in his career Dowling has certainly performed better at both SANFL and AFL level, Edwards best SANFL form is better than anything Draper has so far produced in a Crows jumper.

High draft pick or not should come into it currently regards selection for AFL next week.

No way Draper should come in before Charlie Edwards or Billy Dowling, high draft pick should not even be entered into that equation it should be just based on fitness and form.
I think (hope) the plan would be that once Draper gets a recall this season he's in in.

No more yoyo.

We'll wait that bit longer to make sure he has the base of form & fitness, comfortable that once he does he's good enough that he's played his last ever SANFL game.

Agreed.

Going to be very interesting at the selection table when Draper, Ah Chee, Curtin, Hinge and Keane are all back available for selection as well.

Two games is not one play.

We'll drop Taylor long before we'll go near Soligo. Though, I wouldn't be too surprised if Pedlar gets stuck with a stint in the SANFL if anything.

As we have continuously shown throughout the year, we are quite comfortable adding in more underdone players to our lineup.
