AFL Player #20: Peter "Litre" Wright 🏅 - Pleads guilty at tribunal, 4 week suspension - 26/3

Did well to compete after that incident when he could've easily lowered his head and done nothing for the rest of the game.

Hopefully he realised, ultimately, it’s just a game, and rare, awkward stuff like this can occur, y’know, and essentially it is just a game, where people kick a ball around and hopefully through those big sticks, but there is more to life. He’ll come back refreshed and the better man for it.

Who the * knows what’s gonna happen when it comes to the tribunal/MRO. Could be a fine, could be 20 weeks.
It'll be 3 or 4.

Feels like that’s the answer but also feels ridiculous. Almost asking for him to get injured instead
Agreed, but it is sort of where we are at. Had he put his arms up to the ball he may have no case to answer but might be out for weeks with a broken rib. A very fine line.

This is the argument to make (because it’s true) - basically asking for leniency. He will still get weeks.

I’m glad we don’t blame the victim in ones like this as it would ruin the game.

Having said that, the injury is clearly mainly the fault of the guy who jumps backwards & sideways into the path of a 100kg + unit who is sprinting at the footy

Wright turned and will get weeks. But if he went the footy the contact would have been elbows and knees and the same injury or worse

Plugger made a career on owning that space at the scg that's, why he always had leading room at the scg, my initial feeling was pride that 2mp had owned his leading corridor and he'd finally made a physical statement, then the commentary kicked in and ruined it! ...and those nuffy Sydney fans who cried a river when their triple Brownlow medalist was booed a bit sure have a good booing voice when they want it, was like a punch and Judy play

Goodes being racially vilified is very different to normal people booing football acts

I don't really know what else he could've done. I feel like he needed to protect himself in this situation as Cunningham was coming in on an angle.
Not turn his shoulder into the oncoming Cunningham?

If he had put his hands out to mark it, or kept his body square and his arms low for a chest mark, he is probably able to argue he was legitimately contesting the ball.

Whether he did it in self defence or not, his duty of care meant the one thing he couldnt do was forsake the ball and turn his shoulder into Cunninghams head.

You’ve also good a duty of care to yourself. You can’t expect players to change their duty of care within milliseconds, he didn’t know Cunningham was going to be there until he was already at full speed and off the ground.

Don't you know the new rules of AFL? If you get there first everyone else has to stop and let you have it

Best not to try to apply football logic to these things
