This has been discussed at length in the draft thread.

Damn it looks like McGuane is staying at Richmond. Those posters must have unreliable sources. Got my hopes up.

I remember his pre-draft interviews as bordering on cocky or arrogant, could be off-centre. I haven't seen any of the hunger I'd like to see from a player after 2 season, regardless of fitness - I'm not sure he's working hard enough.

Again, I say all this from the outside looking in. I may be totally wrong. Odds on that's the case! :p

I got that impression from those interviews too (and a few post-draft), but I met him earlier this year and could not have been more impressed. He was really genuine, showed a great desire to be doing what he's doing, and seemed quite a mature guy.

A question that I've asked many times about Polec, though - does anyone know who he's close with at the club? Many of the boys seem to have their various groups, but I've never been able to figure out who Polec spends most of his time with. Would be mighty lonely living up here on your own at 19/20 if you didn't have many people to hang out with socially.

I still think he can be the game breaker we've needed for so long. Would hate if we traded him.

I imagine the cockiness perception about Polec relates largely to that pre-draft comment where he described his defensive aspects as "one in a million". I have to admit, it raised my eyebrows at the time, and in light of the fact that the defensive stuff is obviously one of his major deficiencies, it is not a good look.

That said, it would be easy for these kids to get big heads as juniors when they are dominating local leagues and have AFL recruiters and player managers hanging all over them.

The big heads would get cured pretty quickly once you get into an AFL environment and are no longer a big fish in a small pond. I imagine this is what has happened with Polec. PattyKisagun isn't the first person I've heard describe Polec as a measured, good natured kid.

Yere would be most annoyed if we traded him now. It is way too early to give up on him. Rich has only really started to hit his straps consistently this year, albeit he had a great first year.

I have no doubt that Polec will be a star once he gets more experience & a body that will allow him to handle the rigours of AFL.

Look at the way he slots through goals from 50m out. He has a lot of composure.

I have met him a couple of times & I found him to be polite, very pleasant...no hint of arrogance or self importance there.

We just can't give up easily on top 10 draft picks. They are too valuable for our future.

I've often wondered if he said that in jest, knowing that the defensive side of his game was his weakest aspect. Hard to imaging him legitimately saying/thinking that, especially once you've chatted with him.

Upon saying that, I remember Polec saying since day 1 that he needed to work on his defensive game. He never really did anything on it in his junior footy. I don't think it's something he believes he is too good to do. He always will be an offensive weapon first, doesn't need to be a defensive power house, just needs to do them team things and be accountable.

According to Browny we want an outside mid. If that's the case, hardly likely to trade Polec out are we? He's the closest thing we have to an outside mid at the moment, albeit a developing one.

Just backs up the theory that he was joking with his pre-draft comment. As I've mentioned, I'm currently in the process of going through all our matches for the season and noting down individual highlights (many of which would've missed the club's highlights videos) for various individuals. I'm just past the halfway point of the season, but was really quite surprised with how good Polec looked at stages this year. Shows how short term the memory can be when it comes to footy.

We are zero chance of trading Polec, no matter what Browny says in an article. We Never have been looking to trade him, just the talk of BigFooty yahoos. I don't get why the talk of trading Polec keeps coming up, about the same chances of Browny being traded.

Agreed he wont be going anywhere.

Excellent work PattyKisagun! I think a few of the BF posters here would make great analysts for the club.

Polec is the one person on our list that confuses me the most. When we analyse the situation I think you have to take away the fact that he was a high draft pick. He should be judged against his peers without any favoritism. His midfield peers are Bartlett, Beams, Green, Harwood and O'Brien. Although his form over the past two years has been average, he has probably shown enough compared to the above group of players to warrant another year or two to show his wares.

sounds like the blues are into ace if you believe their forum ! i believe we will offer him a contract but maybe a shorter one . we need him to see him stay a lion, so yell hard at the ressies today folks , give him some support

Surely we could target a Kelvin Moore or a Kane Pettifer or a Wilbur Post ??? We need more Richmond champions.

I guess the fundamental difference there is that we would never need to put peanut butter under Eds lips to make him talk. He pretty much just does that on his own.

I get the feeling we'll be very quiet this trade week. Might not be involved in any trades.

If we don't get Tippett, I don't think there'll be a whole lot else on offer that we'd be interested in. Unless, of course, we hope to snare a quality, young, fringe player from a top side (eg: someone who is on the borderline of the Hawthorn or Collingwood teams).

However, I reckon the club will be open to offers for some of our fringe players, with the objective of upgrading our draft picks (eg: something like Cornelius and our fourth round pick for someone's second round pick).

We don't have as many gaping holes in our list this year (at least for the time being) as last year, but I get the impression Kerr likes trading as a list management strategy. While some other clubs might not trade unless they have to, Kerr seems to be very proactive in exploring all the options.

"would we get another pick in the top 20 maybe Banfield for Westcoast's Pick 17 then use that pick on either Shaw or Jaksch in the draft that would settle our forward line problems"?
Just about what i was saying in the draft thread. That trade would favour us more than my proposed trade of pick 23 and 30 for pick 13.
