If there is one man who can do it, it is Saunders.

From what's been discussed, he is moving down to Melbourne.

How reliable is your poster?

Interesting that Josh would choose to move away from the Lions. He is a sunshine coast boy and his partner is a local soccer/hockey player (Brisbane guys that know for sure please correct me). In saying that it may be a case of "Josh your body isn't holding up for a whole season and we have others coming through that will replace you when we are in our next phase of finals football so maybe you'd like to move elsewhere." It would be smart of the Roos to approach him and offer him something we are unable to at the moment.

He would be a great fit for the Roos and sad to see him leave. As much as it would hurt to lose a great clubman it may have come to the time to cut our losses and continue to put games into people like Docherty, Golby, Harwood etc.

Might be on the outer at the Lions, this is his last contract, it wouldn't be silly for him to get what he can. He might get pushed out of our team as we look to the future.

As I said after the Tigers game, Drummo is not a part of our future model.

Perfect example of the emotionally sad, but correct decisions that need to be made at this stage of our list development.

Half-back flankers were a priority over the draft period, and this is the area of the ground that we have really progressed this year. Drummo's form has been pretty ordinary in the 2nd half of the year, but he is also a victim of supply and demand.

hey guys just want to get the vibe on what we really need to make finals again
im hoping like hell we hold onto our first 3 picks in the draft to add other 2
top liners in the middle
im still on the idea that we are still a bit short on class in the hard ball gets stuff

Yep, but as I understand the free agency rules, interested clubs still need to outbid the lions to gain his services...right? Just wondering if you have an inkling if North plan on doing that with a longer contract or more money - ie how's the state of North's salary cap? I ask because it could possibly have a bearing on the compensation the Lions receive, assuming the clubs don't choose the trade option.

We just de-listed Urquhart who was apparently on 300-350k per season, sad but true, and this is the last year we are carrying David Hale's excessive 400-450k per season contract, that should free up $700-800k from those two players alone. Those two were grossly overpaid in a bid to keep them out of GC clutches. Sometimes when you win, you lose.

tbh I have doubts it will be a bidding war, if Brisbane want to retain him I doubt we would throw stupid money his way. We are likely going to waste a lot of money throwing it at Caddy's direction. :p

After two successive seasons riddled with knee and leg injuries the versatile Drummond is understood to be on the brink of being de-listed.
Drummond, 29, is expected to go onto the trade market as a restricted free agent in a bid to keep his AFL playing days alive.
I would hesitate before taking 100% of a sportnewsfirst article seriously. There is probably a kernal of truth to it though. It will be interesting to see what happens. Feels weird imagining Drummond, a nearly 100 gamer from the Sunny Coast who has played his entire caree at the Lions, going anywhere else.

If Drummond is a restricted free agent do we still get compensation?

Apparently according to the poster on the previous page. Wonder what the compo pick would be?

Class player with amazing foot-skills but extremely injury prone and ageing. I'm thinking a 3rd round pick but maybe even a 2nd rounder. His best could Really help a team on the verge

If we do trade for Tippet and lose Pick 8, who would be for the idea of upgrading our compo or second round pick for a late 1st rounder? It might only upgrade our pick a few picks but it could be the difference between recruiting an elite player and a very good player. Something like compo or second rounder plus Banfield to West Coast for their 1st rounder.

I think that'd be selling him while he's low and at a low price. Giving away Banfield to upgrade a handful of spots is a waste. IMO I think we'd only be trading away players if they ask to leave.

Getting sick of all the ban field trade suggestions already. Why trade an established player to upgrade a draft pick on a completely unknown player.

I overheard a few Geelong people at the VFL GF saying Shannon Byrnes was likely to be traded this off-season.

I'm not sure he would be of interest considering we have similar small forward types, but I thought he was pretty impressive today and a class above. The other factor why we wouldn't be interested could be his age or from what I have seen over the years is that he only tended to look good when Geelong were belting the opposition, but he may be worth a look nonetheless.

Speaking of the VFL GF, who won and how did Bunno go??

Geelong...was 75 apiece early in the last quarter, but Geelong's fitness was evident thereafter and they won by about 32 points in the end. Bunno was his usual Bunno self...pretty average I thought and seemed to rush a lot when he had the ball in hand, but nonetheless, was rapt that he was the winning captain of a GF side.

He's a unrestricted free agent so we wouldn't even need to trade for him.

I have heard that Shannon Byrnes is signed sealed and delivered to the Melbourne Demons. Good fit for all parties involved I would say as well.

I read that and the first thing that came into my head was "Don't you *like* Shannon Byrnes?"
