Agius is an interesting one. Fast, goal sense and a great kick. All the talent and athleticism - do you pick him and back the club to improve his work rate or does he miss out and be made to earn a spot next year?
A natural forward, but don't want him. We need a midfielder for first pick -

Can we all please make some kind of pact to stop sprouting this meaningless guff?

Every two seconds there's someone going on about how apparently shallow the draft is then five minutes later it's amazing and they are all going to be superstars. Does my head in. Nobody really has any clue.

Agreed with regards to predicting next year's draft.

The consensus from Cal Twomey, Emma Qualye, Brenton Sanderson and various other draft commentators is that this year's draft is weaker, which is evidenced by the poor showing of Vic Metro, which is the typically the region that most players get drafted from. The thought is that this year you should get a good player with your first pick, a surprise with your second and toss of the coin with your third. Past drafts usually have safe options in the first and second rounds with the surprises in the 3rd/4th. The thing that will throw this draft out is the academy bidding system and what effect it may have on trades - ie if Sydney/GWS/Lions all don't take a 3rd round picks and have to trade out some good talent then the order of picks may be significantly altered.

heh. I was on a plane from Perth-ADL sometime late in Chad's draft year and got talking to a Brisbane recruiter/scout who was sitting next to me. he talked down wingard due to said concussion concerns and talked up Billy Longer. bloke had had a few wines by that stage. oh and this dude had some family connection with Nick Salter of all people.
Maybe if we meet up with the recruiters from the other teams and get them drunk we can convince them that Schache is too much of a risk to pick.:D

I am prepared to put my liver into the service of my club. It's in the 'elite performer' category :drunk:

Nah, I'd go for a natural crumbing forward before another midfielder.

Does that imply Neade isnt good enough?

We gotta have KFP's to kick to, to take advantage of a clever crumbing forward scouting the packs.

Neade is a great player that has the ability to make something happen, but I'm not sure he is what we could call a natural 2 goals per game crumbing forward.

Agree wrt KPFs but unless we jag a supa dupa top shelfer then with Ryder, Westhoff and Schulz playing, plus a couple of untried ones developing in the SANFL, we actually have enough for the time being. Def not keen on selling the crown jewels for someone like Carlisle.

The post you quoted was in response to another midfielder not KPF.

Yep. kick to a contest , that implies you need a competitive forward to draw the ball and make a contest.

The better your key forwards , and the entry of your midfielders going into f50 influence the ability of players to crumb .

I'm fairly convinced that wingard and gray are always gonna sneak forward. I like krak up forward around the hff as he has a great kick.

Neade's played the last two games and has yet to a register a single score.

He wants to get something against Essendon.

From what I've seen when he gets the ball it's never from crumbing the ball around the goals but on the wing after the other whole team has pressed up past the centre circle.

Without any stats or observations to add I think Neade has been ok the last two weeks. Hard spot to play, results can't be judged on goals scored especially from a kid. Probably needs to start to kick along but his biggest problem will always be body size and there's nothing he can do about it. I think he's our best option of our sub 3 year players to keep blooding.

Either this year or next we're going to have to pull something out of our ass a la Hawthorn 2004 otherwise our KPF stocks are in serious trouble

Neade probably hasn't crumbed a goal in his life. He's always been a winger or a really high half forward but doesn't have the size for it in the AFL. His passing to a leading player inside 50 is a shitload better than his goal kicking, thats for sure.

Everyone is/was a big fan but he looks less and less likely each game unfortunately. So yeah, I think we will be looking at recruiting more small forwards. We only really have Palmer coming through, you would hope Mitchell and S.Gray are done and Wagner will probably go too.

Not with our first pick obviously.

Should we consider him as more Danyle Pearce wingman option then rather than as a goal-kicking small forward? Pearce was a scrawny little bugger when he first arrived at Port.

Pearce a little taller with a more penetrating kick maybe?

Yeah I'm not saying they are clones but maybe it's better to think of Neade as a penetrating wingman rather than a goal shark. At sanfl level he looks much more dangerous upfield and as I recall was an effective midfielder at St Pat's.
