I've said it a few times, Jono Beech is in my opinion the best player in the SANFL, certainly overdue for a crack at AFLThe SA mature draft picks:

Agree - just a real good footballer - strong mark, good kick - probably a little slow. Would love to see w him picked up.I've said it a few times, Jono Beech is in my opinion the best player in the SANFL, certainly overdue for a crack at AFL

He's a utility, portias favorite type of player.I'm just going by phantom drafts and they will likely be all over the place by our pick. He may well be gone by then.
Saw a good article on him learning from a bath Jason Cripps gave him.

Greg Clark (24/05/1997. 193cm, 82kg. Subiaco)
Medium midfielder
AFL biography: Captained WA at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Versatile player who has great running ability for a player of his size, regularly outworking his opponent during a game. Has good hands and uses the ball effectively Averaged 17.2 possessions and 4.3 marks in six games at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Member of NAB AFL Academy.
"Greg's a utility with elite size, shape, endurance and overhead marking ability. He could walk into preseason at an AFL club quite easily. He has some qualities that are hard to come by, and the potential to play a variety of roles. Off field I would say he's someone you would want to bring home to your mother. He's highly intelligent, and he shows genuine support and care for others. He probably just needs to keep working to improve his inside game and his decision making under pressure."
Raff Guadagnino, WA talent manager

A lot of different articles with phantom drafts have comments on them saying that is not our/their pick. Someone will explain that academy picks have been factored in, quite often you will get someone who will give an easy explanation of it. The concept is quite simple, later picks move forward by bidding which means others are selected later. Although I notice in these comments a great number of people cannot understand it. I can see that at first it can be confusing, I didn't fully understand it myself but once it was explained to me it was easy to understand. The fact that a pick gets a higher number seems to be the greatest hurdle. Basically, if it was Isaac Heeney, instead of being taken at #18 as he was in 2014 he would be taken with a pick that did not exist till the draft started. For all other clubs it would still be as if he was taken at #18 as the order they could select non-academy and non-f/s players in would not be affected.
I personally try my hardest to breathe through my nose.Fans get really stupid about this. The author of the phantom draft isn't claiming to be an expert on the needs of the respective clubs, the whole point of it is for them to share their opinion about the players and should be taken as such. Seen too many mouthbreathers on the draft board get threads bogged down with insecurity about whether the author rates their team or not.
This is not just on this board but articles in the papers or other football websites. The main gripe doesn't seem to be "we don't need him, what's this a***hole talking about" but "he's got it wrong, we have pick 9, not 11". Taking away all prejudices the main culprits in this do seem to be cows fans, I've yet to see a comment where an Essendon fan complains that they're picking at #6 instead of #4.Fans get really stupid about this. Ryan Burton slides to pick 29 in the SEN phantom draft.
Partington goes at #33
Port bid on Harry Himmelberg at #38 but it is matched by GWS.
Port select: Brandon White and Jack Cornell (GWS academy)

Yep Brett Anderson and Ben Casanella of Inside Football/SEN reckon 5 academy kids will be picked up in the 1st round and another in 2nd before our pick which turns 32 into 38 and reckon we will take White. All those early academy picks means others will be knocked out and 49 becomes 43 and has us taking Jack "Strop" Cornell.

"Brandon is a great story. A genuine half back flanker who has speed, endurance, has some work to do but uses the ball well and kicks it a country mile. Played senior football for Beacinsfield men and is a progressie type." Dandenong Stingrays Talent Manager Mark Wheeler.
Played 16 TAC Cup games ave disposals 15.2 DE% of 73.3%. At U/18 champs played 3 games ave disposals 10.7 DE% of 75.0%
Chad probably has a pretty good insight for our recruiters as well.Reading up on Cornell last night got me looking at more of the GWS Academy kids. There might be up to 8 drafted from there this year and obviously the way the points work and if Hooper and Kennedy go inside top 10 picks they might only have enough points for one more player.
I then looked up where the GWS Academy can source players from and they have all the southern and western part of NSW ie south of the Wollongong/Shellhabour/Kiama zone is theirs and basically west of Parramatta. So they get all the traditional footy areas of ACT, Wagga, Albury, Bega, Broken Hill, all along the Murray River border towns etc so the likelihood is they will have the deepest talent pool of the 4 northern team academies. I think there will be a few cheap gems in there re late picks and rookie picks over the years. We got 2 players last year with Howard and Austin and I suspect there are more to come or us.
