But KPF take longer to develop so you bank them as soon as you can.

People keep on bragging on about needing midfielders but the club has a greater understanding of our SANFL players and their development projections than the fans. Remember this time last year McGovern was a delistee at the end of this season but now he is in the best 22.

People have written off Milera as too slight, Hampton and Menzel. I suspect the club very much has these guys well within their planning for next year's team with another preseason under their belt.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if we went KPF with 13 and then a midfielder at 43.

Having said that, we are not going to pick a tall just because they are tall. If we rate them as the best prospect at 13, we will pull the trigger. We have a history of going against popular opinion and Mock drafts. Last year we bid on Himmelberg when many considered it a reach and picked Doedee when everyone was asking Who?!

Stiffy...I have posted this reasoning at least twice now. I see KPP as a real need for us. Our stocks are thin especially now Sam Shaw has retired. The three I see as possible are Todd Marshall @ 13, , Sproule @ either 43 or the next one. Lewis Young as the late rounder. I'm backing the young mids we already have in the SANFL to take the next step this year.

My guess is that they didn't remove Shaw from the list after his retirement. Possibly to prevent them from having to include his 2017 salary under the 2016 cap. Shaw's retirement came after the first List Lodgement, but before the second.

Then why do we have 6 "live" picks in the draft? Rookie upgrades no longer require a pick. If Shaw was still on the list we would only have 5 picks.

Surely our cap isn't under that much pressure given we were planning to fit Gibbs' $600k+ into it.

My guess would be it mostly circulates around having the ability to upgrade an extra rookie or two, with Greenwood, Beech and Keath all potentially pushing for spots during the year. They may also be concerned about the depth beyond 67 and hence would prefer the single year contracts of a rookie draft pick as opposed to the 2 year contract of a ND pick.

I also feel there'd be a fair whack of "manufactured drivel", Hamish doesn't want to be chatting to the media at present, his plan for the press conference would be to drivel on enough about nothing to make the media outlets think you've said something, but not enough for them to realise you've said jack squat.

My feel from Hamish's interview is well likely pick 5 players, he's said 4-5 on the off chance our talent list is depleted by the time pick 82 comes around. I suspect someone will be there.

That's my point - a good chunk of season in the AFL, not all of it in the SANFL.

Also Doedee will get a taste of it? He better. He's a first round pick. If he can't start getting some games within 2 years then it's time to start worrying.

Wigg hasn't so why is TD different? Plenty of time for them to develop still.

Jordan Galluci it is :D

Twomey's final Phantom is out...
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-11-23/callum-twomeys-2016-phantom-draft

JORDAN GALLUCCI
3/5/98, 183cm, 75kg
Eastern Ranges

Gallucci's special athletic traits were on show at the Combine, when he broke the all-time standing vertical jump record and blitzed the field in the repeat sprints test. His ability to break out of a stoppage and zip away is rare, and he can kick long goals on the run. Gallucci may start across half-forward but he can also be placed as an attacking half-back with his run and drive. The former volleyballer is a professional and determined teenager who has been preparing for his shot for a while.

Tomorrow's heroes: Jordan Gallucci

If not him? The Crows would look very closely at Jarrod Berry if he got through, as well as Will Hayward. Speedy half-back Cedric Cox has been linked with them while Oli Florent, should he still be available, could be considered. They have been linked to placing a bid on GWS academy player Isaac Cumming at this spot.

Draft picks: 13, 43, 53, 66, 82, 90 (likely to use four or five selections)

The Crows are into things early and then have a little wait before using three later picks. They have been linked to mobile forward Patrick Lipinksi, who has good spring in his game around goal. Another chance for one of their third-round choices is Esava Ratougolea, a tall forward/ruckman with Fijian background. The 18-year-old is raw and will take some work but jumps at the ball and tackles hard at ground level. Ben Davis, a medium forward from Sydney, is also in the mix for the Crows, while Jonty Scharenberg will also be a chance to join the club at those later picks. Scharenberg is an inside ball-winner who could complement the club's midfield unit.
Say it 'aint so Cal! Out of a first round bursting with depth and talent we're going to pick the little guy with the bad disposal? Hopefully with so much up in the air, this doesn't happen.

I like Will Hayward and wouldn't necessarily be unhappy if we drafted him although he's not exactly a need, but in reality he went from maybe being drafted to a 3rd round and onwards pick after his 9 goal game (where he was put under very little defensive pressure by the opposition or opposing coach). Then someone said 'Hey he's a skinny kid who plays forward, just like Nat Fyfe was!' and all of as sudden he's a top ten pick. Just saying.

A lot of those guys sat in the SANFL all year and the club refused to turn to them all season so even if they might be able to contribute at AFL level, I find it hard to see many of them becoming superstar midfielders which I believe we're in need of one and kind of the reason we're wanting to see our first pick used on a midfielder in the hope that will happen. Excluding Milera from that given he's only been on our list for a season but guys like CEY, Wigg etc I find it hard to believe will be the missing piece or the ones we have enough confidence to fully back in next year when we didn't this year.

I also call bs on there being calls for McGovern to be delisted on here after having spent just a single season on our list. Not sure if I picked you up on that before or someone else but it comes across as one of those WW calls used to then pat himself on the back over something that was never said in the first place.

And who has written off Milera? A first year player being too slight seems like an idiotic call. I can't say I've ever seen that and I find it hard to believe that anyone on here that is taken semi seriously would have said that.

Don't really mean to attack your post but it rustles me a bit when these type of claims are made on here - never come across any of them myself and I find it hard to believe any regular posters (who isn't known to make stupid claims) would have said the above stuff about McGovern and Milera so early in their careers, let alone multiple posters.

Could we be holding back a pick for the pre-season draft. Or maybe we want to be able to upgrade a rookie without a long term injury being required

I think I've called out Stiffy for posting like WW at times. None of those claims happened except in WW and Stiffys imagination. When challenged to back them up he never has.

I had him much higher before the sanfl finals and then he took off with his last 3 games including the draft all stars game

Put that together with his 20m testing and his more than solid national carnival and it's not surprising really

More than solid carnival? Averaged 7 disposals and never got in the best players. Also only cracked it for a couple of reserves games when most SA draftees in recent times have played league footy.

I like him and feel he'll probably be something but let's be honest, if it wasn't for one 9 goal game against fairly ordinary opposition, he'd still be thought of as 3rd round and beyond. One SANFL U18s game is a pretty slim body of elite work compared to what most of the first round have achieved.

He kicked 2 goals a game with limited opportunities to get possessions as a deep forward and showed he was a potential player then he really improved thereafter

By end of season looked really good in draft all stars game against the best kids

The improvement trajectory is there , if guys like Cedric Cox and Isaac Cumming are in mix for 1st round then it doesn't surprise me that he is

Everything you say above is true however , it's more on potential but I like what I see

For sure, you love those guys who show a sharp trajectory towards the end of their draft year and his combine was surprisingly elite. I guess I just wish he didn't have that game then we probably could have gone with 43. I'd be surprised if we took him at 13 (not neccesarily disappointed) as we're pretty much covered for medium forwards and I don't think it's a given he'll play midfield, looks a natural forward.

Saw him in the u18 GF looked above average but it was an u18 game. He didn't get MVP for the game. Still trying to work out how he is being touted as a midfielder apart looking like a skinny looking Fyfe, go to any year 12 class and there are 50 of those that look like a skinny Fyfe

Hamish was talking about having 4-5 picks in the National Draft, and 2-3 in the Rookie Draft. I interpret that as meaning 4 selections is the "nominated rookie" option.

This only makes sense if Shaw is still on our list. With him listed we have 5 senior list vacancies, without him we have 6.

The AFL website shows us having 6 selections. This doesn't match up with what Hamish said on the radio.

I'm confused.

I'll be at a wedding, one I don't particularly want to be at. Hopefully I can find a way to watch some.
