Marshall is the one of the most overrated players in this draft. He doesn't get many touches and hasn't kick a great deal of goals this season. He is also a big risk but there is a big upside. He is a project player and is a player who Ken wouldn't that be interested in because he's previously said he wants 'ready made' players like Wines.

Marshall has just started playing the game started the season at very low level of fitness and is probably pretty well banged up by now. I'm sure we would be looking at him if we can get a few picks in the 1st couple of rounds.

Venables is a gun, so tenacious and he would be a great pick around that #10 mark. Im not a big fan of English, SPS or Marshall all hype but won't offer a lot else in terms of on field production. Taranto and Scrimshaw are the only others around the mark I'd like to see Port taking draft night. I can just sense Marshall is Alberton bound

I'm a bit worried he smells like Mitch Thorp

Good on the attack, but he struggles defending.

Actually, it was attacking blindly, arrogantly into an empty forward 50 that got him into trouble - hammered on the rebound everytime, after a few easy wins to start the season. When they had enough time to get into decent defensive positions they went ok for a team so undermanned as the season wore on.

Didn't he just attempt a hostile takeover of Punt Road?

"There are certain parts of Punt Rd that I'd advise you not to try to invade"

Actually the most talented list with amazing firepower. Should have done better if the coach didn't get it so wrong.

Agree with you, except they were second best on wet grounds.
Can't bring myself to "like" that post though  Prost!

I'm just going on some of the comments i have read but i don't get the attraction of Scrimshaw? He sounds like another half back flanker who can't defend and doesn't win enough of the ball to be a midfielder. I don't want another half back flanker with a pretty kick.

Yeh people are comparing him to the Bont because of his size but Scrimshaw isn't a mid and can't defend. Our recruiters have just about lost the plot if we pick up another HBF who can't defend their man.

Think Jack Macrae, not another O'Shea. Hes picked up mid 20s all year so not sure where the doesnt win enough ball thing comes from.

What I want is a midfielder with an excellent kick, and Scrimshaw is that person.

Similar to how every aboriginal player drafted from 99-06 was called 'the next Andrew Mcleod', unfortunately now any midfielder thats over 190cm will now be called 'the next Marcus Bont' even though they may play nothing alike

Macrae is one of my favourite footballers. O'Shea...not.

I have read Scrimshaw doesn't win enough contested ball. I'm over quarter backs.

Anyway, thanks for all your great feedback. It really helps this forum.

I still prefer contested mid / forwards to hbf / mids. I like Venables and Taranto is growing on me. If we choose Marshall at least we are trying to fill a need.

Knightmare's work on the draft boards is exceptional, but keep in mind he's not infallible - he's had many misses over the years, even with regards to HOW a player will play at AFL level. I feel a lot of posters in this thread have read his draft profiles and then made their minds up on players with regards to our list needs.

The most accurate in the draft boards I've seen over the years is Quigley, but he doesn't post until close to the draft and I think he's even missed a year before. I hope he has a 2016 one, because he is incredibly detailed and goes against the grain of a lot of phantom drafters (he just simply puts how he would do it, not how he thinks it'll be). Not infallible either, though.

In the end, they are all players with potential at this point. It's fun to have favourites and all that, but to not want a player because of a phantom draft write up is a bit premature. Having said that, I can definitely understand having the attitude of "If we draft a half back flanker at pick 9, I'll spit chips!" attitude - I don't want us to reach for a key forward in this draft.

I guess all I'm saying is it pays to keep an open mind haha.

when you consider the best guys in the country at it (the recruiters at the clubs) get it wrong, consistently, you can't take anyones opinion on this stuff. it does frustrate me sometimes the group think bigfooty player is often the one overrated on the D&T board where every poster for every club wants said player at their pick. i always have guys i hope we pick, not so much this year as i haven't been to many games and it's fun when they land ie for me Amon/Frampton but drafting players like Impey shows you just have to have faith in the guys that know 1000x more than the average BF poster. i honestly don't care who we draft most of the time position or player.

For me i weigh up certain posters opinion against what I know (and many people watch far more vision than I do) against stats. Stats can lie, but if you can take them in context I trust them a great deal. From game 1 in the champs in ollies draft year I was asking who this guy is that is racking up huge huge numbers against quality opponents. Sometimes they will lie, a kid called Hurley from Sturt taught me that a while back , but often it's a very good indicator.

If scrimshaw is finding a lot of the ball through the wing in juniors that makes me feel a fair bit more confident that he isn't Oshea. I think Oshea was always a defender hbf in juniors who never averaged close to 20 possies a game.

Knights has pointed out he isn't a contested ball winner , and that would be a fair knock. It doesn't mean he can't be a winger that we need , just not an on baller.

I would still be more sold on guys like McGrath, mcluggage , Brodie , Taranto and probably sps and Ainsworth though. But that is 6 players when we are picking 9th. One thing is for sure we defintely need kicking skills as a target.
