Agree; MCG pretty much spot on with its prediction
More than decent crowd for two teams down the ladder.
Lions crowds have finally fallen through the floor this year.Just 13,802 for Lions/Crows tonight; the lowest crowd between the two sides since the Brisbane Lions were formed.
If that's not bad enough, Lions next two home games are against Freo & GWS who would bring lower amounts of fans than the Crows. Could a sub-10k Gabba crowd be on the cards?
Nah, they've been on this track for a while now; had five sub-15k crowds last year for example.Lions crowds have finally fallen through the floor this year.
True. Bang on expectation. Desperately needed win for the Pies facing the Lions at the MCG next week. Turns 25-28,000 into 32-35,000 I think.

3 games tomorrow to finish the round 9
157,163 needed to pass round 9 last year - no chance IMO
- essendon v west coast at docklands
- melbourne v north at the MCG
- Fremantle v carlton at subiaco
112,156 needed to maintain a lead on aggregate over last year. Possible.
Thats an OK crowd for GWS Ripper finish as well.
It could be more than at ANZ for the RL tonight and it was! only 10,077 at the cavernous ANZ Stadium Parra V Canberra so we shouldnt be too harsh on the GWS crowds in Sydney.
Well thats better than what some of the established Sydney NRL clubs are getting at the moment. Even GWS ourdrew the Parramatta Eels today.Nah, they've been on this track for a while now; had five sub-15k crowds last year for example.
But an established club getting a sub-10k crowd at their home ground, that basically hasn't happened since Fitzroy left the comp. If nothing else it would help guarantee another priority pick.
Tonight's crowd confirms membership nos are BS !!
We've been garbage since 2005 really apart from a few one-off seasons, and we've had a whole new team cut away a third of our membership/supporter base in that period too. Considering we're no chance of even making finals until the 2020s I'm shocked we haven't had a four figure crowd yet against a low-drawing club.Just 13,802 for Lions/Crows tonight; the lowest crowd between the two sides since the Brisbane Lions were formed.

I know that 10,677 in context with Sydney's Rugby league crowds, is quite satisfactory. The GWS should be striving for more. 2 home games in a row at Spotless was probably not the smartest fixturing move. But the positive is that the two games were crackers. It's going to be a long slow burn for GWS. I sincerely hope (for their sake) they actually make, and win a GF over the next couple of years.10,677 @ Spotless Stadium
Not too bad
But is this factoring in there's only 8 matches this round? Would be surprised to see advantage AFL crowds had over last year evaporate so suddenly.3 games tomorrow to finish the round 9

It's a contest for hearts and minds in Western Sydney.Referencing NRL crowd figures seems like an easy out (happens in this thread a lot) whenever there's an ordinary AFL crowd.
You only have to look at the overall crowd aggregates and averages to see its no contest between the two codes.

but NRL doesnt average anywhere near the same as AFL. they are different codes with different expectations. If the Broncos were an AFL club in an AFL heartland, they would average 50K each round easily. Attendance isnt everything. The TV figures showcase this. It's a contest for hearts and minds in Western Sydney.

it is not a "fair/even" comparison

*assuming everything else stay equal. Not sure you can say that. If the Broncos were an AFL club in an AFL heartland, they wouldnt be the only team in a town of 2.5 million for 30 years either. The Broncos have some huge upsides that no team in any comp gets. Sole team, in its key sporting heartland, with good facilites, and guaranteed prime time coverage on tv which also means their home fixtures are good for crowds.
