This weekend has definitely opened things up within the top 4

Richmond have set themselves up for a potential top 4 finish

Richmond - Gold Coast(metro), Hawthorn (MCG), Geelong (skilled), Freo (Subi), St Kilda (MCG) are good enough to win 4/5 likely win 3/5
Port - St Kilda(AO), Adelaide (AO), Collingwood (AO), WB (bal), GC (AO) could win win 4/5 likely win 3/5
Melbourne - North (Hobart), GWS (Canberra), Saints (MCG), Brisbane (MCG), Collingwood (MCG) could win 4/5 likely 3/5
Sydney - Hawthorn (MCG), Geelong (Skilled), Freo (SGC), Adelaide (AO), Carlton (SCG) could win 4/5 likely 3/5

I think Melbourne have the easiest run home and could potentially win 4 out of 5 games in the run home.

It is looking like Port may have to win 4 out of 5 to finish 4th

Richmond on their day can beat anyone, but they also have a history of imploding. They should be able to go 4 from 5, but because it's Richmond I expect them to drop a couple of games.

Sydney, while they are the form side of the comp, definitely have the toughest draw. If they win 4 out of 5 then they are going to impossible to stop in September.

There's also a huge question mark over GWS, if they lose to the Bulldogs at Etihad and Geelong at Skilled they most probably will drop out of the top 4.
Port play another 4 teams not in the top 8. If they win those 4 games and finish 4th they will have finished top 4 with out a side who were in the top 8 at the time.

The worst possible is Sydney 4th which I think is most likely.

I agree that's the worst match-up, but not sure it is the most likely yet. They could lose to us and Geelong (and they lost to Hawthorn in Sydney earlier in the year).

I'm not sure a 3-2 record from here is enough to get them top 4.

Unlike Brian Lake and 90% of blokes when they first start out....
Do any of them come across as star struck fans when they interview players pre game? However I do agree a lot if ex players are poor in other ways.

How about giving the job to a media professional?

I listened to the Richmond v GWS game on ABC Grandstand. Kelli Underwood is one of the best commentators in the game. There was another female with her, didn't get her name, but she was really good. As was Adam Ramanaskus.

The difference is the ABC trains their media people to present sport in a professional manner. Not just hand them a mic and a list of questions and send em out there.

I think my reaction was more about listening to some quality commentary for a few hours whilst outside in the garden vs the amateur hour Fox Footy provides at times on TV.

You mean the amateur hour Channel 7 provides. Daisy Pearce is a Channel 7 employee.

Yep. Case in point was Friday night. Brian Taylor discovers in an interview that a key Crows player has a fractured cheekbone - and probably played the game out with it - but missed it entirely.

That would be because he's so obsessed with his role in being "funny" or "entertaining". Or the sound of his own voice.

A real interviewer (or even someone who gave half a s**t about what they're doing) would have picked that up.

Channel 7's footy coverage has turned into the farce the Channel 9 cricket comm box turned into under Brad MacNamara.

GWS have only won 1 game of their last 6... along with 2x draws... but have slid from a hold on top spot to looking shaky to remain top 4.

Imo, Sydney could win 4/5, giving them 3rd spot, but they have a tough run home.

GWS need to start getting players back & Green being suspended again for stupidity won't help...

To be honest anything can happen. We should finish top if we win 3 of 5. Pies Essendon and West Coast should do it. Port and Sawns 50-50.

BT is a joke. I think what is worse is that he doesn't know which Crouch is which (so had to carry around a bit of paper with their pics and names on it).

If you are a commentator and don't know what a 50 game player looks like then you aren't doing your job very well.

Earlier in the year he didn't realise that a Hawthorn player about to go out and run laps was an emergency player, not one that had just played the match.

Tonight on Footy Classified:

- 20 minutes of much-needed further analysis of Buckley's future and glorifying Collingwood's win, taking them from 14th to 13th
- 18 seconds of acknowledgement of how the Crows won, putting them 2 games clear on top
Nah, Richmond won, so they'll have to cut down on their Crows coverage.

In any case it won't matter as the "Crows" coverage will be about Dangerfield overcoming the odds and a broken foot to lead his team to a gallant loss against a team yet to beat a side ranked above them on the ladder.

Says it all really. And the only top 8 team they play for the remainder of the season is us.

The big talking point will be that it should be a mandatory 1 week break after a concussion and Sloane shouldn't have played because all these ex-footballers who do not have a medical degree know better.
