Now that we’re only 2 weeks out from the draft, are you able to give us any insight into what we might be looking at BOND 007 I understand you won’t be able to give us names, but anything you can tell us would be greatly appreciated.

We lost two Brownlow medalist midfielders who were best 22.

We should really look to replace them with, wait for it midfielders.

Or if we're really good some HBFers with midfield potential.
Don't make it out like they were playing brownlow medal quality footy mate, sure their leadership ect will be missed but their output game day wont be absolutely missed.

Agree with drafting mids tho hehe

Priddis I agree with but you don't rate Mitchell's 2017?

One of our best players last year imo

Not that i didn't rate Mitchell's 2017, it was just drastically lower than Brownlow medal quality. I feel like he was an average middle tier contributor

I thought Mitchell was good, not great (although he had some very good games). But in fairness to him, he was surrounded by a pretty ordinary team/midfield at times and he would have looked so much better with more support and more run in the team. Also in fairness to him, adjusting to a new team and new game plan etc would not have been easy after so long with the Hawks.

I think it has been genuinely poor other than our KPDs.

Where we finished on the ladder is kind of irrelevant to the discussion given the number of B22 players we had in the team who were traded in from other clubs.

A fair point although it's probably not fair to entirely remove KPDs from the analysis. But if you generally look at our drafts since 2010:

2010: Gaff, Darling, Lycett, McGovern is a big win.
2011: Bad draft.
2012: Traded out of the draft and took no real interest.
2013: Sheed & Barrass - big tick.
2014: Duggan & Nelson is a passable return so far.
2015: Traded out of the first round but had three debutants already and no delistees. Cole and Partington should expect extended game time next year. Certainly no elite talent has come from this draft but it's not a failure - a low passing grade.
2016: This draft looks truly excellent but it's far too early in the peace. At least 3/4 look like becoming good/very good but we have nothing to show for it yet.

I can't be bothered going further into it but I think if you compare that against the rest of the league we are at least in the middle bracket. We've certainly done better than some rebuilding teams with significantly better draft picks than us.

We got what we were expecting with Sam I think. He was more than serviceable but one eye was definitely on the future.

Still a cracking pickup for 88 but the "hole" he leaves won't be as bad as some make out. We just are out of practice with all the commentators going ballistic when one of our players touches the ball which made it seems like something was happening whenever he was involved.

The clips I've seen of Worpel look great - inside bull, on the taller side, plenty of don't argues issued, got plenty of the ball. Kicking seemed reasonable enough for an inside mid.

What are the knocks on him that make him a mid-late second rounder?

Kicking efficiency supposidly.

But inside mids doing the heavy lifting are the most under pressure and they arent all Judd like.

It seems we really rate the mature WAFL talent this year, hence the loading up of round 2 picks. Is there actually a higher quality of talent than usual? Or are we just trying a new tactic we haven't exploited before? Or are we just scraping the barrel?

I think he could go any where from 5+, mainly his kicking and I think he has patches of drop off

I fear we are just focusing on WA and immediate impact talent, rather than best available. I don’t think the mature talent is anything too special or better than normal.

Worst case scenario is if these players go 1-11:

LDU
Rayner
Dow
Cerra
Stephenson
Brayshaw
Higgins
Fogarty
Coffield
Bonar
Clark

What the **** do we do then?

O'Brien, Constable or Brander I suppose.

I’d go Constable but club would go Allen or O’Brien I think

O'Brien fits from a needs perspective. Our outside mid depth chart is pretty shallow. Don't feel like he is good enough to be 13 though.

Fingers crossed someone we rate top 10 slides.
