The logical side of my brain's response: which is why I want us to draft a Kemp or a Serong, who are both hard-at-it mids (despite Serong's height.)

The emotional side of my brain wants to respond with sarcasm about how just 24 hours earlier you told me our future midfield stocks were awesome and we shouldn't worry about the midfield.
I don't think I said our future mid stocks were awesome, I said they existed, while our future KPF stocks do not.

You really think Serong will be able to go with blokes like Dusty? I highly doubt it. Not a knock on him, but 10cm is a bloody big difference when a player has a frame like Dusty's.

We need Daniher because Franklin probably has 20-30 games left him in and we lost a number of games this year because of his absence. Not that we would have made the 8 but we could have finished higher.

If a player of Daniher’s ability wants to come to Sydney we should make it happen within reason.

Midfielders grow on trees while key forwards don’t.
With the two of them fit & on the ground, we would be an intimidating team but as far as membership & bums on seats goes, it will take us to another level.
If he keeps fit, we won't have to worry about Daniher not finishing his career as a Swan.

Dion Prestia just won B&F in a premiership year for them and he's 175 FFS.

That night Martin kicked a bag in the QF, who was delivering it to him lace out all night. The bloke 12cm shorter than him!

So I have read our KPP stocks are great but mids suck
Now I have read our mid stocks are great but KPP suck

Trade period hurts my brain
I'm strictly talking about our future stocks with regards to both.
KPP: McCartin
Mids: Blakey, Florent, Rowbottom, Hewett, Gulden, Campbell, Bell, McInerney

You appear to have misinterpreted my suggestion that you can't have a midfield full of short people as small midfielders can literally never be good players ever.

When Buddy came here at least we got a proven superstar, HoF talent who has a proven record of success. I was jumping for joy when he got him despite the cost. Lukewarm on Daniher however, as injuries might kill his career. Not excited to overpay him to be on the injury list.
Buddy came here on a massive contract. Proven player.
Joe D won't be on those $$ nor length. It will be a pretyy bog standard contract you'd expect

To be fair, not many can go with Dusty regardless of their height. No one seems to think Matt Rowells 178cm is too short

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with short midfielders. But you need some blokes with more size in there as well, or you'll get bullied by some sides.

I remember when the Buddy and Tippett deals happened I was assured by people (not on here) that the contracts were back-ended, and the salary cap would go up, and blah blah blah, don't worry the club knows what it's doing, the list will be fine.

Ended up costing us a decent ruck and an elite mid.

IMO the changes to CoLA (more or less) post those decisions (and the fact it was forced closed in two years) had a much greater impact than those contracts did.

Thats where Sier should be coming in...

It’s odd all year people say we have all this talent developing then the same people seemed panic we might back that talent in and add Daniher to it
It’s disingenuous to leave out the ‘if fit’ tag which is the issue most if not all detractors are concerned about.

That wasn't what I was saying. My point is that size doesn't matter at all in the midfield IMO. If you have guys who can find the footy and show some smarts out of the middle then that's the most important thing. Richmond's midfield exemplifies that best and they just won a flag because of it, more so than because of Lynch.

We have Hewett (187), Rowbottom (186) and Florent (185). Add Kemp (192) or Serong (178), who are both on either ends of the spectrum, either way it's not that different to Richmond's in size. We just need them functioning like Richmond's. Don't add a Kemp or a Serong, and I still fail to see where our future midfield stocks lie, given that I don't see Heeney, Mills, Dawson or Blakey as full time mids, I don't think Bell or Clarke will cut it, and Gulden and Campbell are too far away to be genuine options at this point.

Why would I look at them when I could look at the midfield that won the premiership this year?

Martin (187cm), Cotchin (185), Pickett (184), Edwards (182), Lambert (178) and Prestia (175)

Wouldn't say any of them are big-bodied, though Martin is a bull. They're just clever and effective ball-winners who rely on things like pace and footy smarts over brute strength.

They effectively concede the contest and try and cause a turnover. Look at their clearance numbers.

Totally different midfield setup. I don’t think we have the group to play that gameplan personally.

The club seems to see Blakey as a midfielder, perhaps in the same mold as Dusty and he'll spend some time forward. And if you're talking about Gulden and Campbell being too far away as if your prospective midfield is our midfield in the coming years, what are we doing with Parker and Kennedy?

Compare the pair once they have possession, because like them, we are also not a team that relies on getting first hands to it.

No backwards handballing or hospital handpasses or hack kicks or trying to shake and break tackles when out-numbered in the contest for the Tigers. They use the outside player more effectively than anyone.

Footy smarts don't discriminate based on size.

I lost my clairvoyant abilities as a child, so what else can I offer except my prospective midfield? This is a place to share opinions isn't it? IMO I only see three on our current list, that's it. You might have a dozen in mind that could form our future midfield and that's cool but I just don't see it myself.

As for Parker and Kennedy I've already said numerous times, and been bashed over the head for doing so, what I would do with them if I were coach. Not even gonna go there.

Remember when the pies and Malthouse were unbeatable and had the best gameplan?

Then all of a sudden it wasn't.

Richmond will be similar IMO.

C88: we need big bodied mids
Mick: doesn’t matter what size you are so long as you can get the ball
C88: WE NEED BIG BODIED MIDS!!!

Fast forward to the present...

C88: wrap a Serong around me and stick me in the guts ‘cos size don’t matter!
Mick: WTF!

Size of player + quantity of possessions means nothing compared to how well it's used
