Or does this mean we're not giving him a lifeline

If we nominate him I think we automatically take him with our last rookie selection if he slips through the ND.

Maybe we want the flexibility to take two rookies if we want? And then take him with our last if our other targets are gone already.

I watched a bit of WA recently and i think Jackson, Henry and Robertson need to go in the top ten...which makes it more of a top 13 (Rowell, Anderson, Green, Young, Serong, Flanders, Ash, Kemp, Stephens, Gould) and that's not including McAsey/ Worrell / Weightman. I'm pretty much going off McAsey at pick 12. Prefer Hilder/Finlay at pick sixty something or McCasey/Worrell at 18.

Hell of a daily commute. Surely a Victorian tech high education would be considered more prestigious than a SA private school education. Half an hour and thirty years behind...

Looking at the phantom drafts it seems the drop from 10 to 12 could cost us significantly. Stephens, McCasey, Kemp etc. Still annoyed that we decided to play good AFL citizen and swap 10 for 12. Sure we might get a slider as well, but we didn't need to give up those two spots. The deal was sweet for St Kilda without it and it's not like they played good citizen with Richardson.

Gould doesn't excite me as a '3rd tall, large half back' as statistically, that describes half our defenders already.

Stephens is from Mildura, which is right next to Renmark on the Sa Vic border. It’s closer to SA than Broken Hill and closer to Adelaide than Melb.

With our recent record developing indigenous talent I can’t imagine we are going to select Taylor in the first round.

Our drafting team must have had enough of Hinkley ruining their work.

I agree with Twomey. Clubs have a draft board and just go by the numbers, and Mead is the last type of player Adelaide need.

Someone else might pick him...but it’s not going to be the Crows.

I read that post as more than an opinion - to me it sounds like he has inside information that the Crows are unlikely to pick Mead.

It is just common sense.

What is the alternative?

"We are going to match on Mead no matter what the bid"

It would just encourage other clubs to bid earlier and game the system.

We aren’t guaranteed to get him so KT isn’t prepared to say as much.

Not everything needs to be interpreted in the redline. He may be indicating Port don't rate Mead in their top 30 so won't match a bid before 29, which it is largely assumed we would do. Or it may be that we won't match anything before 12 or 18, although no one seems to think that will happen.

Twomey already mentioning Port's ideal outcome being a bid for Mead after pick 29 (and stating Adelaide won't be bidding) adds to the potential for Port only looking at Mead post-pick 29.
