So Essendon get pick 7 for Daniher, GWS will likely get a top ten for Cameron, and we look like ending up with something in the 30s for Brown.
Remember when people were justifying the trade by saying "we'll only do it if we get the best deal for the club." Or "we need to make the gutsy call because he's got trade currency". How's that working out now?

We just can't compare them. The picks are coming from the AFL, not the other clubs. Where you can compare them is Cameron is being rumoured at 1mil, Daniher at 700k... Brown at 500-550k. Not something North can be blamed for.

How does Daniher at 700 trigger band 1?

There is nothing that made sense about the whole Brown thing, nobody, even the media could make any sense of it and how we approached it.

Top 10 picks (i.e non-finals teams) should be protected. Any band 1 compensation should come after those picks.
You just know, as soon as a Band 1 calibre player from North wants to leave through FA, the rules will have changed and we'll be screwed over again.
Yes. I completely agree. Have said the same several times.

Has to be more at play than any of us are aware of

How does Daniher at 700 trigger band 1?

AFL want Queensland teams to be strong teams, because they care about their market share, advertising revenue, ratings... so if they don't give band 1, Brisbane will have to trade...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's on more than has been rumoured.

It's appalling though, abysmally so.

I agree to a point. But we are seeing the market offering significantly higher contracts to other key forwards, so that must say something about the general perception of his value.

We should have contracted Brown until he was eligible for free agency. Thanks Cam Joyces.

The initial reports said the offer was 600 x 5. After the threat to match from Dodo, the Lions renegotiated and it looks like they upped it past 800-900k x 3.

I wish I knew how the f*** we thought it was smart to contract him to a year before he was FA.

Saying that, the Melbourne deal is rumoured to be 5 at 500-550k.

The Corr deal, rumoured to be 5 at 500-550k.

Like for like, that puts our compo at around 27.

Saying that, I'll grant that Brown should command a higher wage as a FA. We're not far out of the ballpark though.

It is the same reason why Tarrant never got in the AA and how Goldy was usually rated lower than his output demanded, we don't get the recognition our players deserve, you watch how the perception changes for Brown and Higgins next year.

I get where you're coming from, and I want to have faith in the club, but I still think the whole Brown situation has been handled horrendously. We apparently valued him at 750 - 850 k depending on who you believe, Daniher has played 3 games in 3 years or whatever it is and he's worth 700k and a pick 7 compensation. We now have a 60 goal a season forward who wanted to sign with us allegedly going somewhere else for 550k a year and what will likely turn out to be a late 2nd rounder.

I be they re-negotiate a 5 year deal with it being front loaded, the last two years will be almost nothing.

So at what point do we start knocking for a priority pick?
Immediately, club is a rabble (if you Accept what’s been written and sprayed across the net), AFL needs to cough up a priority pick for the AFL basket case. What’s the worse that can happen? AFL say no and give pick 2 to * for wasting their time.

Ahem.. we dont want him..

And they will renegotiate it back to 600 x 5 as soon as they can. And the AFL will sign off on it.

Ok HS just posted the figures. So 830k per year

Essendon hit the free agency jackpot on Friday night, securing the No.7 overall pick for Joe Daniher after Brisbane offered a three-year deal with around $2.5 million of guaranteed money.

The Lions had to calculate a deal that would put him in the top five per cent of paid players but were happy to sidestep 10 days of torturous haggling over a trade by elevating their three-year deal.

“He adds to our firepower and we will back in our program to keep him on the park,” he said.

“He got back and played this year, if he hadn’t that might have added a level of doubt but he got back playing well. He and (partner) Adele are a ripping couple so it adds to the profile of our club holistically.”

They can't. FA deals are stuck for the life of the contract. It's why Sydney is still stuck paying 1.3m to Buddy.
