Getting Walker and Western this year and then Farmer and Motlop next year as well as hopefully using our first round picks both years is going to give us a really quick team. Hopefully we can add in some talls somewhere in there as well and fingers crossed we are looking good!

Little Wiz being F/S eligible somewhat excludes him from the conversation but i would certainly be concerned if we lost access to Motlop.

Our % will get hammered this week and if Hawks turn up they will beat the Crows. Not guaranteed to happen but is likely I think and that will have us swap places.

It will then come down to whether or not we beat the North and whether the Hawks can pinch another (Gold Coast maybe).

I want us to Beat North but the Hawks to win another as well as there is a massive difference between 15th and 14th for us.
You are right, but don’t forget the suns need to win another game to finish ahead of us if we beat north. They are unlikely to beat Brisbane or Collingwood so if they also lose to hawks we will be ahead of them.
I wouldn’t entirely rule them out against Brisbane actually..
You are correct in that 15th v 14th is worth 2 extra draft spots to us

Yeah we need the Hawks to beat Crows and someone other than Gold Coast.

Personally I think we are a chance to knock off one of Dees or Dogs, thus ruining it all.

Wins on the road might inspire a young gun player we already have to sign on, it's worth potentially slipping a few spots prior to what could be a massive trade period anyway.

Agreed, winning, especially for a team like us who has been rebuilding for quite some time, is more important than a few spots up the draft picking order.

Absolutely agree on this. Out list is young enough as it is. If there is ever a year to cop our wack with deficits this and next year is it. What's the point in trading in picks to pay for a potential second round deficit when we could pay for it much more cheaply next year by just accepting the pick downgrades that draft.

E.g Let's say we end up with Walker and Western both being bid on at the beginning of the second round (lets say that's pick 23 this year due to earlier first round bids) thats: 1600 * discount = 1280 points - the Dees second rounder (lets say 34 = 542) = 738 Point deficit. Plus I imagine a couple of points will get shaved off that with whatever is left over from when our first pick is downgraded (E.G. if we drop from 6 to 9 then that will generate 17 surplus points)
Well trading in a future pick to cover that, just so we can get a pick in the 50's or 60's, would cost us a premium of at least 1/3. Likely more. I.E. a late first rounder at best. Seems extreme just to get access to a 4th round talent forward/ruck.

If we make some independant trades prior to the draft that absorb some of the potential deficit then all well and good. Otherwise just take the two second rounders this season and accept we may not have one 2021 unless we trade for it that year.

I also want to say that I want us to win as many games as possible. 2 wins from here would be a solid finish. We will still get a decent player at pick 9 or 10
But the dogs and dees will be right in the finals hunt and so I expect us to lose to both.

I read something from Cal Twomey on Twitter earlier this morning that the afl wants to scrap the NGA and those kids just go into the main draft with clubs not having the option to match bids. Anyone know anything about that and how it will work?

Scroll back a couple of pages!!

It is discussed a couple of pages back IP. Basically sounds like will be phased in over a few years so no immediate effect to us.

Geez, would love for us to at least sneak in Motlop and Farmer before the changes take place.
Think Farmer is safe regardless - F/S unchanged unless I've missed something

We could downgrade pick 34 for two later picks to create surplus points.

Then trade our future 3rd round for a 2020 3rd round. Plenty teams will be up for that.

If Walker or Western go late first round, it protects our first round pick in 2021 going into deficit.:rainbow:

Then if one of Western or Walker get second round bid, then our 2021 second round pick will go into deficit.

If both Western and Walker get second round bids, most likely will be able to cover.

Re Farmer, does anyone have a handle on his potential? In other words is he a likely 1st or 2nd rounder next year or more a rookie?

Don't see Farmer going in the first round at this point in time, unless the small forward pool is dried up
