The ladder doesn’t lie mate.
The ladder doesn't make comments on list quality, just onfield performance

The only two teams to have won two spoons in a row this century were Melbourne at their height of their shitness and GWS when they started out. By round three or 4 this season we'd lost 3 of our top 5 in last years B&F, 4 of our top 6 and half the top 10. Higgo was the only one of those that wasn't missing from injury (he left.) Last year we were pretty bad and then we didn't have a bunch of our best players for the first half of the season.

None of that suggest we will be that poor again without some kind of injury catastrophe.

Without being a draft guru I agree Sinn is a good fit for us - left footed rebounding HBF

Reckon he is flying under the radar a bit (on bigfooty at least) with some question marks about where he fits, can he defend and some injuries this year but if you actually look at what he offers he is potentially an absolute weapon at AFL level.

Doubt we will trade up for Gibcus. KPPs just take too long to come online if they ever even do. McKay came good but it took 5 years of development biting our nails the whole time. I'm liking our current philosophy of having other clubs make that investment in development and then trading them in to us. Having said that intercept KPDs like Lever and Allir are all the rage at the moment and Gibcus is one of those so maybe we will.
The dogs showed the flaw with relying on KPDs like Aliir tho. Make them defend and they will struggle unless their intercept game is something they developed after being able to stop an opponent.

Also helps when the umpires allow a player (Schache) to literally block an opponent out of a marking contest without making any real attempt to contest.

Think realistically those sorts of players are the cherry on top, rather than someone you can rely on in a shotty backline. Aliir and Lever types are at their best when the midfield is dominating contested ball and there is little pressure on them, and when they have a better stopper/monster key defender along side them. The contrast between Lever and Aliir shows how it works and how it doesn’t (at least in a big finals setting). Melbourne dominated the midfield and overall field position vs Geelong, there wasn’t many entries, especially out of the centre for him to be exposed 1 on 1 and most of the entries were bad bombs in. Lever didn’t have to take Cameron or Hawkins and it didn’t matter to Melbourne because May is a monster and Petty is very good one on one. Aliir on the other hand (while he was being held most of the time) faced an onslaught of balls inside 50, fast and from the centre bounce as Doggies midfield dominated. It genuinely hurt Port that their biggest key defender couldnt defend the only tall weapon that Dogs had in Naughton. Instead guys like Jonas, McKenzie, Clurey, Lienert, play on these sorts of keys during the season despite none really being a serious monster (Jonas would be if he was over 190cm). Now this is relevant for us because we have McKay who’s a genuine monster and Corr who is fast and solid 1on1 imo. What we actually lacked was intercept outside of Ziebell, and these guys don’t grow on trees, now I’m not saying we trade up for Gibcus, but however we can we need to find a young interceptor.

Mate we showed the flaw in that at the start of the year and finished dead last. I thought he was exposed on several occasions by us and we were in bad form at the time. It's the role he's asked to play but for mine I rate interceptors that can genuinely defend when necessary.

Liam Duggan out of contract at the eagles? Hearing rumours…

Depends on the price.

Don't really see where he fits, he's a bit like McDonald-lite.

Doesn't really add genuine leg speed and it's certainly not as a midfield role. Anderson will have trouble getting game time over the next 2 seasons imo.

McDonald had enough trouble fitting into Noble system without having two of them.

I perceived Duggan as a better balanced player but their career stats are very similar with the nod to Luke.

Duggan a bit better especially metres gained judged on 2021 in isolation.

Would be thrilled with this. Great age. Can play the third tall defender role.

Just saw that there was a few articles about him close to re-signing in May which never happened...

Let the speculation begin.

He's 183 but plays tall. He's one of the many good mid sized defenders that the eagles have.

24, former pick 11, from Victoria.

He's quality.
Me likey a lot.

maybe we could package something and add in kyron?

Why do you think the club would be so eager to run the risk of cheating the draftee contract rules? There’s legit ways to deal with it.

if Horne is top of our list, take him at 1. While we haven’t seen what points Collingwood bring in via trade, it’s almost certainly not going to make a difference at least out to pick 38. At least, not to our disadvantage.

Because Brady has already done it before by bidding on McDonald

Yeah but that's gonna happen, especially against the Dogs. Even when he wasn't being held or blocked his biggest asset was not much good against such a full on midfield as hoffseason gains described.

With McKay ... well having Darcy Moore as well would be great.
