Do people want Lemmey as a forward or defender?

He’s either an A-Grade forward or a bust for mine.
Had a terrible preseason forced to spend way too much time off with Covid protocols and illness loses his fitness level gains a couple of kilos without the time or the program to get right again before the championships. More you think about it the more obvious he’s going to be a bargain. Or he’s a spud.

If he is that good, why was he overlooked by every club in the mid season draft? I'm not sure he's as good as people here are expecting him to be. I'm looking for soemone with a higher ceiling with pick 33.

I tend to agree. By all accounts he was very good in the VFL last year, but then so was Skinner in the SANFL the year before we picked him up.
It's hard to tell if these sort of players are gonna make the step up. In an ideal world he steps up and improves our first 18. But there's also a decent chance he just fills Skinners position on as extra depth. And as you said, he was overlooked by every club at the midseason draft, and to get to us in this draft, plenty of other clubs are going to have to pass on him.

Late picks are pretty unknown, just got to take a punt. If our selectors think Phillips has the best potential to take a punt on, then great. But if they choose lemmey, van es or whoever over him, they must think they have a higher potential reward than him

Just found out there's a mature aged prospect named "Rhett Montgomerie"

Can't be real

Essendon and their list boss Adrian Dodoro loom as the wildcards in this year’s AFL draft who could dramatically change the order of the top 10.
The Bombers provisionally hold pick four, which will slide to No.5 once Greater Western Sydney or more likely North Melbourne place a bid on Brisbane Lions father-son prodigy Will Ashcroft. Greater Western Victoria Rebels key forward Aaron Cadman is as good as certain to be the No.1 selection, with the Kangaroos - who have the next two picks - set to pair George Wardlaw with Harry Sheezel after an Ashcroft bid.

Essendon are linked to Oakleigh Chargers midfielder Elijah Tsatas, but also South Australian Mattaes Phillipou, whose confidence during draft interviews has become a significant talking point.

Rival clubs believe the Bombers are open to trading down the order, knowing big-bodied midfielder Phillipou could still be available outside the top 10. St Kilda, who have the 10th pick, are known to be keen to move up but would have to give up next year’s first-round selection to do so - and that is a steep price, given the excitement about the 2023 class.

The other aspect is that talls take time so are harder to rinse and repeat. Ie can pick them then delist them like you can with smaller types.

So if we take Barnett, Marshall, Lemmey or whoever, it’s an investment for several years to see if they’ll come good.

It’s not a reason not to pick a tall but it’s a reason to pick in a focused fashion with an appreciation of who is most likely to make it. Ie don’t just take Van Es because he is the next KPP available, if there is a player with greater scope to make it. The need for KPPs, which every side has, needs to be balanced against the chance of a prospect making it and not clogging the list for 3-5 years. The counter to that is our picks are all toss of a coin picks anyway so..

Port showing interest in mature age Wangaratta small forward Joe Richards and key defender Van Es.

Twomey expects Richards to go around the 30 mark, a few clubs showing interest.

Good post m8 I'm hell bent on only drafting talls but you make a good point. No point just picking them because they are tall.

However, only around 60 picks are expected to be activated at the draft over the Monday and Tuesday nights, with AFL.com.au predicting a minimum of 54 and a maximum of 62 selections.

He did kick 11 goals in his third game of country footy playing for Wangaratta.
That said looking at the highlights I reckon I could have kicked 7 with my fkd hips as nobody was playing on him.
If he’s top 30 the rest must be pretty average.

Locked in until pick swaps start again and bids are made on F/S players.

Don't see us having too much interest in a mature age player that would not be an automatic selection with our 1st pick.

That said his highlights package looks ok and at the back end off the draft wouldn't knock him.

Some dude called Ablett in the Herald Sun reckons this is who Port Adelaide "should be targeting". Rookie Me Central has Hustwaite in the 15-30 range, so not much chance of that happening. Noah Long is (yet another) small mid-forward...

PORT ADELAIDE
Picks:
33, 60

Mick Ablett says: The departure of Robbie Gray is big, however the acquisition
of Junior Rioli still gives them a genuine small forward threat. Some additions
through the midfield — with a focus on speed — and most certainly some
reinforcements in the key defenders department will assist the Power to return
to their best.

Draft Prediction: Look no further than Henry Hustwaite. A 195cm, strong body
that has also spent a lot of time in the midfield, Hustwaite can hold down a half-
back role with ease. A tidy left-foot kick, he also provides a strong aerial presence. Noah Long is another option. He is a smart midfielder-forward who is a genuine goalkicking threat.

Hustwaite isnt sliding to 33 for a start and Long is a Geelong Grammar boy and big Geelong supporter. He is a small mid, who has been thrown forward due to injuries, hence not a specialised forward. Both are highly unlikely.

I dunno, your description of Noah Long sounds exactly like the sort of spud Ken would give 50-100 mostly terrible AFL games to.

An improved version of McEntee perhaps ( mid made into small forward), however sounds doubtful from our end, rather a charlie clark or konstanty type as specialised forward smalls , however as you said hinks would luv him.
