Training 2022 Pre-season

Been trying to think what game it was when he went back for us last year.
Spent a game or 2 in the VFL playing back and then come straight back in as a defender and looks like the best move that could have been made.
He is a much more natural defender and the more time he spends there the better he will get.
I think it was R22 v Pies

What’s the go with best vs. the rest?

Combinations? Less contests? Good opportunity for some of the ‘B’ guys to impress?

Would it not be better to split them evenly?
I think it's mostly to build combinations.

Added benefit that it can be used as a way of managing/ manipulating players. For example, player A has been training well all preseason, give him a run for ten minutes with the probables, might put a pep in his step and push him to another level. Or on the flip side, player B seems a little complacent, a run with the possibles might fire him up.

I believe it is to get the game plan working correctly
They will at times drop a best player like an Andrews to the 2nd side

Maybe I'm a little too 'glass half full', but I can't see where a loss is going to come from this season.

Take it to the bank ;)
Maybe I've been around too long but the one thing I take very little notice of is the pre season form in the scratch matches . Your better players don't want to get injured and those looking to impress get to do it against guys who are only half pie. Plus no one wants to injure their own players.

It's a good chance to see who's come up fit and well from the off season and try a few things that you've been thinking about where you didn't quite measure up in the prior year.

If you want to bet on the AFL the games where you get the crazy value are the first 2 or 3 of the season.

Sell your house, take the money & put it all on this multi.

Lions winning the flag without losing a game, Lachie Neale to win the Brownlow, Joe Daniher to win the Coleman & Darcy Wilmot to win the rising star.

Do it. I've got a good feeling about that bet.

However

** Gamble Responsibly **

Maybe a $5 wager rather than selling your house.

"Brisbane are set to part company with Cam Ellis-Yolmen because of his decision not to be vaccinated against COVID-19, with the Lions intending to replace the midfielder on their playing list in pre-season."

"Club sources confirmed late on Monday that the Lions had put a line through Ellis-Yolmen for 2022 after he chose not to take his first vaccine jab on Friday, and that they planned to fill his spot on the list with another player, ending his AFL career."

Wouldn’t be surprised if Toby Triffitt was brought up as a bit of a like for like.

I also find it hard to accept a loss providing we have a 95% full list to chose from each week and we play our best footy. Melbourne had a dream run last year & I firmly believe you need that luck combined with playing your best football to win a flag. I look at the other sides in the competition and our full list comes up better than them all.
By the way BangyBangy...... I did take it to the bank. ;) :brisbane: :p :fire:

CEY is crazy. He's already done most of the preseason. Id be happy to take 2 jabs and run out a year playing NEAFL for a few hundred thousand. He is going to lose all that money. Good luck finding a job with similar pay this year. He'll have to FIFO out on some terrible mining site to reach anything near his AFL salary. Hope he didn't spend it all on crypto this past year. Looks like its all heading into a doldrum period again in the crypto space.

I think he gets 25% of his salary. So, still a decent pay cut. But clearly it's not about money for him, as much as I disagree with his decision.

I wonder what happens re the protocols around the guys that are not getting vaccinated eg. CEY, Liam Jones, Jack Darling. Lots of great friendships would have been built up over the years with them, are the Lions players being told or advised by the club not to associate with CEY because of the danger to their health? Can they still be friends, would the players of shunned him of their own accord?

Indigenous peoples are generally a bit sceptical of government...

Just saying.
Not only the Indigenous, I like this quote I heard on a Podcast I listened to a while ago, pretty apt.

"All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted." Frank Herbert.

Anyone who shuns him of their own accord weren't really his friend to begin with. I can't see any problems as long as they are vaccinated and take other precautions.

Depends on his reasons for not vaccinating, if he’s a weirdo anti vaxxer then I’d shun him. If he has a genuine reason to not vaccinate that’s a different story.

The wacko anti vaxxers deserve nothing but contempt and ridicule.

They are only governed by the current Health regulations in each State.
Can’t say I know of anywhere you can’t Socialise with a non vaccinated person.
I would personally be pretty disappointed if the Club has asked them to keep clear.

It's all confusing to me, if they can socialize with him why can't they play sport with him. You'd think running around outside training and playing would be a very low risk environment for fully vaccinated individuals. I suppose CEY won't be permitted to enter pubs, restaurants etc without vaccine papers so they can't socialize in that way, it would have to be at private homes, parks, beaches etc.

Whether these unvaccinated players are permitted to play in the lower levels of footy will be interesting.

AFL players aren't permanently outside by any means.

"Hey, Cam, no gym access for you, no tactics meetings for you, no recovery for you, etc."

I agree and knew that although personally I can't see why a few unvaccinated players in the competition would be a problem inside or outside... the way I would think a vaccine works would be CEY would be the one at risk not the other fully vaccinated players and staff.
