Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

nope.

not unless he demands to leave
Hope he does then! Cause we really don’t need that type of Ruck in modern footy. 2021 he worked his ass off taking marks down the line and giving an option up front. He doesn’t do that anymore. The emergence of Treacy giving the chop out has proven to me we’ll be fine without him.

Just need a better back up ruck in the wafl. Reidy may not be that player.

They will be at Peel with him most weeks.

Sure Johnson might play the odd game, but not if Amiss, Treacy and Jackson are playing up forward, which is where they will be.
Still need another mid / tall forward though

I have a sneaky suspicion Darcy might be heading out the door meaning Jackson will be rucking a lot more
Even if he doesn’t I’d have Johnson over Corbett

Reidy is definitely that player. Sandilands has talked him up a bit and was very close to a debut last week. One to watch.

Maybe, even if Darcy goes maybe the club see Reidy as a viable option.

I see Johnson as another b grader to add to the list of existing b grade forwards.

Not sure our style of play suits Johnson, he is good with Collingwood’s run and gun style but I doubt he does much in our slow build game plan.

If Darcy goes, the set up yesterday is fine and then we've got young Max coming through who's looking like a talent and we can draft Luker Kentfield to develop behind him. No doubt we get something good in return for Darcy too.

Having said that, I doubt he wants to leave. The future for us is Darcy and Knobel rucking, Jackson as KF/backup and deep forward stoppage ruck, Amiss KF, and Treacy as depth or back up imo.

Take your point but I see Sturt and Corbett as C graders , a B would be an improvement and in reality we don’t have the capital to attract an A grader
We still bomb it in plenty of times and keep in mind Amiss will start attracting more attention from defenders

I reckon there is a place for him over Corbett

Sturt is a bit of a different player , a bit more nimble

All academic anyway - have there been any rumours linking Johnson to Freo?

What would be more topical in your scenario is how gun players keep leaving the club.

I doubt Darcy goes though, he has said in the past many times how much he loves the club.

What’s been somewhat overlooked with Reidy is this is his second year as a ruckman. Before that he was a KPF who rucked a little bit.

Tbh I think I’ve seen enough from him that I doubt we can draft a better ruck from the state leagues. We really need that back ruck just in case and can’t rely on Knobel yet.

Not every back up ruck needs to be as good as Meek who tbh took a fair while in the AFL system to get to the level he was.

I think Ash Johnson already re-signed with Collingwood for a few more years.

Corbett will be delisted (and rookied for forms sake presumably). If Hamling is retained it will also be on the RL. That's five ML spots without Henry or Sturt leaving plus a LTI for Kuek frees an additional rookie spot.
Need Brodie to get fit and get back in the team for the last 2 or 3 games and let him run one way all game getting 40 touches so we can hoodwink someone into trading for him.

I think you’ve forgotten that Treacy and Banfield are being upgraded. Delisting Corbett and Hamling and placing them on the rookie list gives us only three live selections in the drafts, which imo isn’t enough (it meets AFL rules but we should be taking more).

I think we try and find a 21-26 year old KPD in the state leagues that’d be ready to go. The difference between them and Hamling next year won’t be the difference between as winning a flag or not. I’d be happy to make finals next year realistically tbh. Hamling won’t be on our list when we’re genuinely competing for a flag imo.

it is enough with the picks we have.

we have a very young list now. We don’t need to gut the place THIS YEAR and make us even younger.
as it is we have two 30 year olds going for two new draftees.

Hamling, Corbett and Emmet will be perfectly fine to delist next year if they don’t perform.

Spot on
It’s all hypothetical
Sometimes these trades do come out of left field though and Johnson is from WA and not getting regular games at the Pies so it’s possible

I hope Big Darcy stays

I look at the players that have left and other than Acres don’t feel a great sense of loss
And 2 years ago Acres was a top 5 whipping boy on here so go figure?

A lot of incorrect things / misconceptions kept being stated so to try to clear them up:
  • Ash Johnson re-signed
  • The only thing that matters for list spots is who is out of contract. Moving a player from main list to rookie list solves non of the list squeeze problems because we are at full capacity.
  • According to footywire, the out of contract players are Benning, Wilson, Colyer (100% gone), Henry (trade?), Hamling, Reidy (important depth) and Sturt (almost best 22 now).
  • Effectively, given I'm sure at least one player will come in and we'll want at least 3 main draft selections and one rookie selection, you almost have to pick 5 of the names above to move somehow IMO.
  • The only alternative would be working out a deal with Kuek or Corbett to pay them out
  • Delisting Reidy serves no purpose IMO because you'd just need to draft a similar player anyway and he deserves another year.

Sturt has played 14 games for 14 goals.

His baseline is a goal a game.

I can see him pushing that to 1.5-2 goals.

He's a must keep.
Apart from Walters and Taberner our forwards are under 26 with the key forwards 2-5 year players.

Maybe, we just cool the jets and get games into the forward line and develop chemistry.

The rebuild has gone too long for sure and everybody’s patience is at breaking point. The big but is we can’t go back into the past.

There goes the Johnson theory

That must have been fairly recent then ?

I’m with the posters that think it isn’t enough tbh. Some posters would say we need to make 6-7 changes given our ladder position but I’d be happy enough with five. These changes are across trades, National Draft and rookie draft.

For me the concern is the team we put on the park each week getting older not the overall list. If that happens, I couldn’t care less if our list gets younger overall due to us delisting a bunch of 30 year olds that played five or less games this year.

Moving Hamling on might cause some short term pain but drafting a KPD in their early-mid 20s now might mean we have extra depth in that position when we’re actually competing for a flag. Hamling won’t be at the club in 2025 so I hardly see the point in re-signing him.

Why would we need to draft a replacement for Reidy when we've got Darcy, Knobel, Jackson and Treacy on the list all capable of rucking? That's plenty. Delist him and draft a different player, problem solved.

Spot On.

Benning, Wilson, Hamling and Colyer are gone.

Henry to be traded.

Fingers crossed that Sturt signs on.

I wouldn’t bother with trading in to fill any of those holes expect maybe Henry. If Sharp has changed his tune he will be a cheap replacement for Henry who until 4-5 weeks ago was purely depth. If his not keen then move on. Drizz has a higher ceiling if he gets his fitness right IMO.

Hopefully the pick for Henry allows us to trade up to the mid to late first round.

Will be a quiet end of season period for us

We’d be beyond ****ed then if Darcy and Jackson are injured at the same time. Knobel is 2-3 years away from playing AFL and Treacy is a forward not a ruck.

It’s essential we have that ruck depth there. He’s shown more than enough at Peel imo.

He’s shouldn’t be delisting him so we can fit in 30 year old depth players. That’s just poor list management.

It’s not even a discussion. With no Reidy with have two AFL rucks on the list and one of them is better playing elsewhere anyway
