Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

At worst Tabs is cover for Jackson. JL said in the presser after the final game that he played Cox forward because that’s his preferred tall/small ratio, otherwise Amiss gets smashed when Treacy goes into the ruck.

Wrong. We have 3 genuine KF's on the list (Amiss, Treacy and Taberner). The others are rucks, ruck/forwards or defenders.

I think the balance is quite good atm. We have a 22 full of highly talented U25 at every line, and a number of experienced players in Hamling, Tabs, Banfield, and Brodie ready to come in knowing the system and ready to perform at a moment's notice, with Fyfe as an ultimate sub as cherry on the top. Team's ready to go for our 2025 cup. Just getting our wings sorted, a new future Walters replacement, and more games, stamina, and strength into the kids and we are good to go.

Unless I am missinterpeting, 18 months would take him to end of 2024 which isn't right because he just got extended to end of 2024. So he likely just got the 6 month contract.

He wasn't listed as an 18 month nominee for that draft

Would have signed 6 and then added the 12

Inside trading is usually pretty goodz they reckon he extended for the 12

Yeah I get that but this guy does all the player interviews and videos whenever the club announces an extension and all that so I feel he would know.

Cal's top 30 looks to have a lot of key forwards in it this year.

No sure. Bell seemed pretty sure that Jackson would spend some time in the midfield and we have already said we are going to stick with 3 tall forwards. Not sure how that may look without Tabs

Chol wouldn't come to Perth to be depth. He's doing that already at Gold Coast plus he's better than that - someone will offer a best 22 spot.

I think if anyone actually thought Fyfe was coming back even 90%, I'd be onboard with that. Reckon he plays less than 10 games at about 70%.

If he had an ounce of aggression he would be a much better AFL player than he currently is. Athletic beast, but way too nice.

He’s the one. I’m not sure the club has any interest though.

For the list boffins, the Club website doesn't distinguish between Senior & Rookie list players anymore, but didn't we upgrade Banfield to the main list years ago? He's been at the club since 2017, so how can he have been a rookie for 6 years? Did we re-rookie / downgrade him?

Upgraded end of 2018 then delisted and redrafted end of 2020. Has spent 2021, 2022 and 2023 on the rookie list this time.

You can only spend three years on the rookie list but if a player is delisted delisted that three years starts again.

So technically we could delist him and place him back on the rookie list this year and he’d have another three years on the rookie list if that’s what the club wanted. I think Sam Reid from GWS and Roarke Smith from WB spent like 5-6 years on their teams rookie list.

Edit: Roarke Smith has just completed his ninth season of WB’s rookie list and has never been on the senior list. He was delisted and redrafted after three years and six years.

Can I just say how devastated I am that to end off the most disappointing season in ages with minimal list changes.

Looks like we're taking a max of 3 at the draft which gives us very little shiny to get excited about.

Let's just axe some blokes so we get some presents.

Edit: lets hope that JoM and/or Brodie story has legs. Nothing against them, I just want to enjoy October and November as a footy fan.

Agree it’s been the most disappointing season - but significant list cuts and new toys to play with is not the answer.

The root cause of our performance this year is inexperience and (I hate to say it) some pretty ordinary coaching. The make up of our list is not a Top 5 reason for this season’s performance for mine.

I’d rate all of the following as far bigger reasons for our performance:

• inexperience
• game day coaching (which surely is the issue for our first quarters)
• team selection (Hughes on wing, Fyfe forward, delaying the Young to midfield move - which apparently was in the works for a while before the move was made, Banfield over Sturt, Banfield over Emmett)
• Stagnant ball movement in first 5-6 games (which was our easiest run of games in the season - I honestly thought we’d be 6-0, but we were 2-4 and only just scraped past Gold Coast and only ran over West Coast when they had no rotations)
• Generally crap ball movement in to the forward 50.

I also think a combination of losing Mundy, Brodie regressing and Brayshaw (Doig medallist and AFLPA MVP) clearly playing sore for the first 8-10 weeks - which the club tried to cover up - really set us back far more than we realised.

I am supremely confident that a healthy pre-season and the greater experience for the majority of the list - plus a couple of tweaks to the coaching list should see us back in the eight.

They are all idiots who don’t watch enough freo games to know any better. Jackson is way to shackled playing #1 ruck, let the unicorn run free!
