Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Unfortunately after promising pre-season and first couple of games Henry has been a disappointment. Hughes also better back to his role in backline.
That's why I believe we should put Clark on the wing, but we have to wait until Chapman is back. We are wasting Clark in defence. He should be running and carrying more. Nailing running goals from 50, or pinpointing a leading forward. He has all the attributes of an elite wingman. It just seems so obvious to me.

The first two names in your list are running out of chances to make an impact and show they worth resigning.

Personally I’d re-sign Sturt for a year but let Henry shop himself around for trade and at best get a pick upgrade or F3 pick.
If we can get an early 2nd rounder for our Roos 3rd rounder which would be early i would be happy

Especially when we have Wilson, Wagner and Worner all queuing up for Clark’s spot in the backline.

While it does seem obvious, maybe he doesn't want to play on the wing? He has stated he likes his role in defence.

That isn't happening for Henry or Sturt imo.

It'd be a mid-late third or fourth at best. That or downgrading 4-5 picks into the last 2nd round.

Best case scenario is a third rounder we can package up with our other two third rounders imo.

Similar to Acres I reckon.

I’d prefer we try and upgrade our Carlton third to be honest.

Something like 44, Henry > 36/37 (Melbourne second round pick) would be good outcome.

22, 36, 40

I know what you mean and I thoroughly believe Wilson is wasted at WAFL level, but geez Clark is a reliable defender. Chapman and even Cox (based on his brainfarts last weekend) are behind him in terms of reliability coming out of defence IMO.

as someone that is actually becoming somewhat used to the idea that we will be contending over the next two years, I personally would like to maintain some level of this thing other good teams have that is defined as "depth", so that when we have injuries, we are not playing a F3 18 yo in a crucial big game. But I understand that's just me and that F3 might become a future Brownlow medalist in 8 years time, though for another club, so it turns out it was a good pick.

I think a large amount of this board overrates how much depth you actually need and/or underestimates the ability of our club to recruit and develop players.

You certainly need 30-32 capable players to win a flag. Thing is players 28-32 are very replaceable each off season if your recruiting and/or development is AFL standard.

If Freo can’t replace the current output of Henry over the off season then we are beyond ****ed as a footy club tbh.

It’s when you lose 4-5 top 30 players in an off season that depth actually takes a hit.

Those comments from the Carlton poster about Acres and his kicking is funny. Old dog new tricks - yeh nah get used to the high and long kicks.

We do miss the run and carry along the wing. Developing other options whilst suffering short term pain will hold us well for future.

Unfortunately after promising pre-season and first couple of games Henry has been a disappointment. Hughes also better back to his role in backline. NOD needs a good pre-season and Stanley/ Worner good for developing roles. A more experienced pick-up would be handy but for mine I’m not convinced Sharpe is any better a prospect than Henry.
Sharp just needs a run at it. I reckon he’s the proper winger freo need on the list.

so the blokes on the cusp for injury depth at the moment are, in fact, Sturt and Henry. You could call them in the 23-26. Hence important depth.

I'm not convinced that a mid season rookie 6 months counts in the three years on the rookie list in terms of starting that 2025 season having spent three years on the list - because he hasn't at that point.

** This post is inaccurate, Worner wasn't a mid season draft pick and will need to be elevated to the primary list in 2025 unless the AFL affords clubs some list concession for that season **

...and Ethan Stanley. They would both be best 22 and playing AFL this week.

We are so fortunate not to be forced into throwing kids and developing players to the wolves the way they are.

Lets not get carried away.
