Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

We currently have ten players out of contract for 2024. Four of them are currently on the rookie list.

Signing both Henry and Sturt still leaves four picks with one of them taken up with Josh Treacy promoted.

Freo currently have #21, #40, #43, #58
I'd like to trade one of those picks in the 40s for Brockman.

Leaving #21, #43

If Henry leaves and Schultz actually does leave we would have more as well. Maybe we could trade up to GC’s first

The list of players on the main list (not rookie) is very low now and it would be very close to curtains for:
Sturt
Henry
Wilson
Hamling
Colyer

Unless someone on contract, beyond this year, decides to go again or someone like Sturt may agree to go on the rookie list.

We will be taking 4 in the main draw, so apart from perhaps Henry surely it’s all over for the others!

Is there any rookies that have to go onto the main list this year?

Perhaps Benning (certain), Reidy and Williams to depart rookie list?

Other thoughts?
Having no defensive depth is concerning.
Hamling is needed but don’t think he ll want to stick around on what ifs.

Maybe we should send Corbett back for Peel and bring Draper up the field. Corbett would be ready to fill in if required as he has played there in the Afl iirc. . Draoer and Davies don't look like they would be.

Looks like we've picked our three talls ahead of the ball for at least the next three seasons.

Amiss and Jackson contracted for the rest of their careers and Treacy until deep into whether we will know he is an AFL player or not.

And now we will benefit from that development, which I'm greatly excited to see over the next few years.

Unrestricted free agents still qualify for compensation, but most of them are unrestricted because their old or not very good, so they don't get a contract good enough to qualify for compensation. I can't think of a case like Schultz's but Liam Jones was an unrestricted free agent last year and Carlton got a third round pick for him even though he was 31.
Yes, you are right Bender571. Was too busy thinking about trade compensation. But you are right about a draft pick compensation

Sturt put off a one year extension. Bell a big fan of him.
If Schultz goes surely we offer more to Sturt. Plays forward and can go up the ground to help with transition,, bit like Schultz. He might want to see if the MC are going to give him a genuine go before recommitting.
