Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I just cant see us turning over less than 5 players in an offseason, if I could be bothered, I'd go through list histories and figure out the last time that happened for a team. I'd swear you have to go back a fair bit to find out.
The way we have set up the list is seemingly for consolidation though

We traded away quite a few 2023 OOC players last year instead (Meek, Tucker, Lobb)

5 would be consolidation, that's like as low it as goes for list turnover. Docker82 said it best that Hamling is only possibly relevant for next year then you'd think Davies catches him anyway. With Chapman, I think they'll decide that shuffling deck chairs between Chappy, Pearce, Cox and Ryan as needed will be fine and they can play Davies every now and then if needed.

I seriously cant rave about Davies progress in the back half of the year for Peel enough, I think he can be useful depth next year.

In saying all this, I'd be more than happy if they found a way to keep him but he's like 90% gone IMO. Sturt is getting extended for 2 years IMO, the club would be morons not to try to keep him with the progress he's making with a healthy body. Hamling's only chance is if they trade or cut a contracted player and that's IF we lose Henry

I reckon Hammer is gone too

Hope we sign Sturt and Stanley for 2 years each, gotta say I'm a little bit worried about Stanley, Hawks are always active and they will want him

You'd think he rewards us for picking him though

If we lose a MSD pick before the season is finished I'm legit done. That would be an incredible management low in a year we are probably losing an NGA

Don’t understand the delist trade Hamling. He’s as good as any of our tall backs can play tall or small. Cox or Pearce go down we are stuffed he is great cover at worse. Getting better with each game hardly played in 2 years should be as fresh as a daisy. A must keep imo.

I agree Hamling is gone but we defs could keep him

3 in the ND - Colyer, Benning, Wilson (picks 21, 40, 48ish)

2 upgrades - Henry (trade, he is gone unfortunately) Hamling (Delisted to rookie list)

Hamling replaces one of Banfield/Treacy on the rookie list

5 gone from the main list, 5 added to the main list
2 gone from the rookie list, 2 added to the rookie list (Stanley + Hamling)

Then the opening of an SSP spot for Kuek on the LTI, allows us a rookie pick next year

I still think he is gone but its doable imo

One small think here - We went with one rookie short this season until we drafted Stanley so Stanley gets that spot.

My prediction is that we stick with the four picks we’ve used every year since 2014, with only 2017 being the exception (we drafted 8).

It’d involve delisting/trading at least four. If Henry leaves via trade we maybe take a live rookie pick as well as the likely four picks in the National Draft.

Yeah true on the extra rookie spot call

Means we could delist one of Wagner/Hughes/Corbett (whoever has the least value) etc to open up that 4th ND pick too

or if we did 3 ND then it opens up somehow Henry changing his mind and staying

It's not about that, it's about list spots. They will almost definitely turn over 5 players (draft 4 players, trade in one). 3 of them will be Wilson, Benning and Colyer, assuming he's leaving, one will be Henry. Pick one more between Hamling, Stanley, Sturt and Reidy or pick a contracted player you'd be comfortable trading or buying out (I'd be ok losing Corbett or Kuek tbh).

I'll come on here and shout I'm wrong if they turnover less than 5 but it's legit far more likely it's 6 off the list than 4.

Changes things if Hamling leaves as a free agent that nets us a second round pick in compensation

TBH, if Ben McKay is going to trigger 1st round compo then Hammer is worth 600k per year.

Lobb got a four year deal, older than Joel is.

A three year deal on anything near average cash would get us there.
Problem is you've got double pigs flying requirements here
A) Hamling leaving the state again for 2-3 year contract
B) Hamling getting 500k

If by some miracle a) happens, I'm sure the contract isnt going to be 500k. North need someone / something probably but they cant be that desperate.

I agree with you on McKays value. However I think what is happening here is the AFL are going to use their secret herbs and spices formula to give north an unofficial priority pick via the back door.
On paper it won’t be a PP but in reality it will be.

I'm ok to let Hamling go if Davies can play next year without embarrassing himself.
I'm gaining increasing arrogance in my talent assessment ability following Stanley's faultless 20minutes of AFL football. Davies will be ready for spot gigs next year

I think they've set it up to be one or the other. North get the pick 3 bullshit or they give them Sanders
