Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Are you Wallsy's conditioning agent preparing us for when we draft 3 half back flankers in November?

I think the talls or the mix of talls is the issue. I think the individual ability is greater than the sum if it's parts. Might be wrong though. The 3 we have, have been better in the past. Just wondering if the change to faster footy by teams is exposing a weakness. Too many interceptors. Not sure.

I don't think Pearce or Cox play consistently as well as the best KPDs do and that's the problem I reckon.

Definitely look more exposed when we play faster but that's ok.

Davies & Draper? Thoughts?
I honestly have no idea, apart from the various WAFL reports from the good folk on here.

I mentioned how important Davies' development is and who knows with Draper, but at this point neither have played a senior game and are still in the unknown basket.

If they don't become legitimate AFL players, we will likely need to go to the trade table over the next couple of years, particularly for another kpd.

Maybe I'm being a little pessimistic but Cox and Pearce have been two of my bigger disappointments this season.

I haven't seen a replay but it looks like the follow -up from Jackson is a bigger factor in his success than his actual ruckwork (at this point anyway).
Nah, some of his hitouts to advantage where exquisite and while I've always said he'd be almost as impactful being a midfielder, I think there's reason to believe his athleticism becomes more pronounced when his direct opponent is a ruck rather than a smaller mid who is still almost always going to be quicker than him.

I think he tired in the second half but I may be wrong.

Jackson completely overwhelmed Fort but he is not going to do that to genuine ruckmen. To do that, he will need to acquire more size and then he will lose some of what makes him genuinely amazong - his mobility/agility.

I don't give a shit if Melbourne get pick 4. They were always going to get our first round pick and whatever it was, it was never going to be Luke Jackson. So it's not pick 4, it's a moot point.

Jacko is the best thing that has happened to us. He's a ****ing freak.

Would you keep Darcy?
I dont think it's ever that simple but I would not shop him, I dont think that's ever a good idea. I would not pay overs to keep Darcy, I would offer slightly below market rates same as basically any drafted player and if he got a Logue type deal and said he's stays if we get close I'd wish him the best and make the best of the situation

I'm not sure Jackson will have the size/strength to bully one of the monster rucks like Darcy/Pruess/Witts etc and coming up against one of those will drastically flip the equation for us.

Darcy makes everyone at the ground level better, including Jackson. I think a midfield group of Darcy, Jackson, Young and Serong makes a very damaging stoppage team. Two left footers, two right footers, enough size and mobility.

Jackson is looking a lot better as a solo ruck now because he’s opponents are a lot worse. Apart from Gawn/Grundy game he hasn’t stood out against genuine rucks, and some of his best games (vs Sydney and hawks earlier this year) were when he wasn’t playing main ruck.

Spot on, he was bullied in the Richmond and GWS game’s early in the year. We need to keep Darcy if we can.

I was a little bit naive about Jackson and didn’t realise how good he is going to be.

The way he rucks and follow ups reminds me so much of Nic Nat but the way he covers the ground is well above. I’m now seeing why he has cost two first rounders and still only 21.

Take it from us, he was a much better footballer than Nic Nat.
Not only was he a better footballer, but his style of game would absolutely shine in modern day AFL.

Compared to other champs of previous years, I actually think TI would be a better player in the modern game, mainly due to the ridiculous level of versatility and athleticism he had.

the closest I’ve seen is Adam Goodes…

and Stephen had more aggression

I think we all need to remember that was Darcy Fort he rucked against and not prime Max Gawn. It's not a sample you can use to justify trading Darcy.
Sean Darcy doesn’t come close to Max Gawn, I have a couple of issues with Darcy.
Removing the season ending ankle - he is a big unit that lands hard and gets hurt frequently- and I’m not meaning ruck collision injuries…
Others have noted as well that in games, he has a season ending injury and then plays the next week- lacks some hardness😬
The evolution of the game ‘appears’ to be that a move towards an ultra mobile athletic ruck….I am worried that Darcy will soon become a dinosaur with how the game is evolving.
A leaping ruck gets clearances in the guts but a bulky/hulking ruck wins the clearances from stoppages around the ground, I just hope we do not pay massive overs for two ‘rucks’ - one of which has believe has currency now to get us missing pieces more important to complete the puzzle.
We absolutely missed Darcy early in the season but his influence was lessened with our mids not being able to utilise his ruck dominance.

Its 3 players not 1
Yeah but there comes a point where you're better off having the best of the 4 players rather than 3 really good players

I reckon our list is pretty much built, finding spots for 3 players when everyone is fit is hard, putting Jackson in is elite

Agreed, for the right price he is tradeable.
I wonder how Shannon Neale is tracking?
